Between the two of them, Squaresoft and Enix pretty much dominated the console RPG industry, and that hasn't changed since the companies merged. This conglomerate is responsible for almost every major RPG franchise in existence--from Final Fantasy to Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest in Japan) to the Chrono series to Seiken Densetsu to Kingdom Hearts--and its ability to create vivid, original worlds and characters has made its products a very fertile ground for fanfic indeed.
