When Street Fighter 2 hit the arcades, the fighting game industry took off. Before long, you had literally hundreds of games in the genre, with superb graphics and animation, such that the characters took on lives of their own in the minds of players. Along with RPGs, it represents the strongest breeding ground for fan fiction in the video game industry.
