ADV, the American distributor for Neon Genesis Evangelion, proudly boasts that the series is "Japan's most controversial anime." It's certainly one of the most influential. Grim, psychological, brimming with conspiracies and albinos, all wrapped up in a mishmash package of thought-provoking religious symbolism, this dark parody of the mecha genre has left its imprint on the medium.
