Lammas


Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh in honor of Lugh, is the first and major harvest, the time of reaping rewards. Lammas is a time of feasting, games, and rejoicing.

This is a very masculine Sabbat that pay homage to the Solar gods. It is only natural that people would compete in sport for trinkets and honor. Haven't you ever had a Summer barbeque with three-legged races and egg tosses?


Traditional foods: home-made breads (especially cornbread), barley cakes, nuts, berries, apples, rice, roasted lamb, berry pies, ale, and meadowsweet tea

Ritual herbs: acacia flowers, aloes, cornstalks, cyclamen, fenugreek, frankincese, heather, hollyhock, myrtle, oak leaves, sunflowers, and wheat

Ritual decorations: corn dolls

Incense: aloes, rose, and sandalwood

Stones: aventurine, citrine, peridot, and sardonyx

Dieties: Lugh, Demeter, and Ceres (agriculture)

Candle colors: gold, yellow, orange, green, and light brown
