The Fool's Dance by Richard D. Asplund Jr.

Here I stand in the midst of a lie
Knowing I've lost my last chance
Sitting and wondering why
I'm forever caught in this fool's dance
Fighting with my own soul
Hovering between heaven and hell
Trying once and for all to take control
But knowing all to well
That can never be
For that is not my lot
But now as forever I must flee
Before I'm caught
Standing out in the light
Out of my place
The soothing land of night
It's mark clear upon my face
Knowing now and forever where I stand
Outside of the ring of light
Knowing as always where I'll land
In a place that is more than right
Never knowing true love
Forever knowing I've lost my last chance
Not even thinking to blame those above
For being forever doomed to this fool's dance
