I Died Today by Richard D. Asplund Jr.
I died today, I looked into my lady love's eyes and saw I no longer dwelled within.
I died today, I no longer heard music when she spoke my name, felt no lightning in her touch.
I died today, I saw riches beyond compare crumble to dust as she turned away from me.
I died today, and the last sound I heard was her voice, "I still love you just not like before."
I lie here in my private hell knowing I'm lost without her, I'm dead without her.
We all have to die sometime, and sometimes we die several.
I died today seeing her in the arms of her new love.
I smile my private smile, through my tears as I walk away for I know that someday death will come for them too.
I walk away into the night looking forward to the next time that I die today, for all the pain I feel now, I know that while she was mine I truly lived.
