Arilynne (15538 bytes)Dark chestnut falls over alabaster brow in ever changing waves, enshrouding an elfin countenance that all but defies propriety. Large hazeled orbs that flash from sympathetic brown to mischievous green and then an innocent hue between are offset by a skinny patrician nose that is prone to freckles and quirking rosy lips that are too broad for her narrow visage. Petite willowiness is exacerbated by a considerable lack of feminine curves, yet her boyish body hides a startling strength of character all too evident in the stubborn set of her jawbone and the knowing angle of her chin.

Arilynne was born early morning to Trader Aronil and his wife, Lynnette, of the Ishlan Caravan.  It's said that she greeted the dawn on her turnday with a lusty scream that established her tendancy to talk, and talk loudly, at an early age.  Due to complications with her birth, Aril's mother was told that she could have no other children and thus she became the apple of her parents' eyes and the receptacle of all their love.  With other doting parents, their constant love might be considered smothering, but with Lynnette, a free-spirit herself, Aril always had the freedom to explore herself and her options.  Thanks to this understanding, she never had doubts about what she wanted to do.  Her path was already chosen.

Having shown an adept skill at healing, Healer Journeyman Iskar gladly recommended Arilynne to Healer Hall where she was admitted at the tender age of ten turns.  Now for some parents, ten turns would be too young to allow their child to venture into the world alone, but Arilynne would be under the rather safe wing of her Aunt Wilamina, her father's father's sister.   Stodgy and proper, Arilynne tried to surpress her wild urges and behavior under the guise of suitability as her aunt demanded, but after having free rein for most of her life, she found that being 'proper' was easier said than done.

When Arilynne was thirteen turns, her cousin, the righteous prig Gerdan was Searched and consequently Impressed to Ista Weyr.  With her favorite grandson in the exhaulted position of dragonrider and with Arilynne quickly approaching adulthood, Aunt Willy soon followed.  Friends of Willy's kept a cautious eye on the Healer apprentice, but without her aunt's constant, smothering presence, Arilynne was free to revert to her old habits.  She reveled in her freedom once again, shedding stiff and stolid behavior like an old worn cloak, and Arilynne finally felt free to explore exactly who she was.

Arilynne's life as an apprentice was mostly uneventful... at least until after her fourteenth turnday in which her father had sent her a brand new pair of boots.  Thinking them unique, she was shocked to find one other had her same style of boots, Rhiesh of Fort Hold.  And thus began her somewhat rocky but never dull aquaintence of the now Istan rider.  In Rh'esh, Aril found a free spirit that called to her own.  But their friendship was hard to maintain over the distance, and they drifted apart as friends sometimes do.

Finally came the day that Arilynne had been waiting for.  After much diligence and a bit more hard work, the young apprentice (who was rather old for an apprentice) was promoted to Journeyman.   Aril spent the rest of her evening celebrating with Miriani, happier than she'd ever been in her life.  Poor Healer Hall had no idea what kind of addition it was adding to its hallowed halls, but Aril wasn't about to educate them on that point either.   She was determined to be on her best behavior, a resolution that lasted all of two days.

Out of the blue, a fully graduated Syrth and his lifemate Rh'esh appeared in the healer's life again. rhesh.gif (32601 bytes) Picking up where they left off, Arilynne's and Rh'esh's friendship seemed stronger than every.   He even invited her back to Ista in order to explore the Weyr.  The poor naive healer ended up in his weyr, instead, and had the pleasure of meeting G'briel there.   The three took an instant shining, and for a fortnight Aril was happy.  But she had duties to get back to, it was rather unseemly for a newly appointed journeyman to just jet off to someplace unknown, not telling anyone where she was going.  And well, being kidnapped and trapped in Rh'esh's weyr was beginning to lose it's novelty.

So, when the bronzerider said he needed to make a trip to Fort Weyr, Arilynne quickly agreed.  It provided the perfect chance to escape (after all, Rh'esh was less than willing to take the poor Healer back to her Hall.)  As luck (either good or bad, depending on your view of things) would have it, Vaine's green Alueth was proddy and soon took to the skies, Rh'esh's Syrth among her suitors.  While the riders were pre-occupied, Arilynne decided to make her escape.  Walking back to the Hall wasn't an option, but if she could hide until after the flight was over, perhaps Rh'esh would leave without her and she could beg a ride from one of the Fortian riders.

Unfortunately, as Arilynne was executing her plan, she hide in the wrong place.  Pushing aside a curtain, she entered the ground weyr that all the riders involved in Alueth's flight disappeared into.   Before she could leave, the flight ended, and embaressed, she darted quickly out into the waiting night, Rh'esh (whose Syrth was among the losers) soon following.   Words were exchanged due to the heightened emotions of the pair and Rh'esh soon stomped off in a fit of ire.  Aril had what she wanted, her freedom, but not the way she wanted it.

Mad at Rh'esh for stranding her at Fort Weyr, although it was Arilynne's original idea, the healer returned to her Hall mad as a crawlie who's been stepped on.  Her tendency towards revenge was a habit that old Aunt Willy was never able to cure her of, and soon Aril began to plot.   After a run in with Sissy and Gretchen, the Journeyman used a few of her own marks to buy a cast-iron cauldron, the kitchenware being a vital part in her plan.   Gathering together leaves of fresh numbweed and everything she would need to make a fire, Aril prepared herself to wreak havoc on Rh'esh and his weyr.  All she needed was a rider.

arilpot2.gif (17865 bytes)    And she got two.  Both Adara and G'kar showed up in the dining hall not long after she'd finished organzing her supplies.  Boldly requesting a rider to Ista Weyr met with agreement, and G'kar and Arilynne made it to Harper Hall's courtyard before chaos broke loose.  As G'kar tried to tie Arilynne's precious pot to his lifemate, Xenith's, cargo straps, Sissy and Adara exited the Hall, distracting the green.  In the moments that followed, Aril's precious pot hit the cobblestones with a loud *clank* and both the Healer Journeywoman and Healer apprentice were Searched to Stand for Gyrfath's and Kolyath's clutch of nineteen eggs hardening on Fort Weyr's Sands.

Arilynne made G'kar bring her pot as Adara and Chyenth (the brown dragon was the one that chose Arilynne after Xenith's dismissal of the girl) took the Healer once again to Fort.  It took Arilynne a couple of days to settle into the candidate's barracks and routine, but friends she made easily and found in abundance.  And so now she and her trusty pot, whom she has dubbed Pot, now await the cracking of eggs when futures will be decided and changed forever.

It seems Aril's dragon wasn't on the Sands that day, and heartbroken, the Healer returned to her Hall, only to be abducted once again by a well-meaning Rh'esh and G'briel.  Still, this kidnapping came at the best time for the Healer as the two weyrmates became the healing salve to her wounded heart.  Crushes were revealed and changes were made and Aril found herself in the midst of a delightful triangle, lucky in love if not lucky elsewhere.  Arilynne soon found herself balancing her life at Healer Hall with her desires at Ista Weyr, sometimes frazzling herself in the process.

Relief came in an odd form, or should I say a green form.  Kalona's Branwenth had decided that she rather liked Aril's look and she and Syrth took it upon themselves to trade the poor Healer.  Aril soon found herself helpless in Branwenth's clutches, but fear not loyal viewers, for Rh'esh was on the sidelines to offer help.  After a bit more finaggling, Rh'esh was decided upon as being a better toy and Aril was somehow cornered into the protection offered her as a Candidate.  What is to come next?  Faranth knows, but no one could ever accuse Ista of being boring.

The Hatching's come and gone and Arilynne has been renamed to Aryne, rider of green Dasuth!  Weyrlinghood is a new adventure for the pair as they get to know one another and the other new weyrling pairs.   Not to mention aunts, uncles, and/or sisters and brothers - one not being able to tell one way or another after that large double clutch on the Sands.
