Arilynne!  Words can't describe how happy we are to have you at Ista Weyr. We love how fun and creative you are, as well as the fact that you're just as nutty as the rest of us!  We hope that you enjoy both Dasuth and your time here as a rider.

Clutching_msg: A heave and tremble as puissant glory is brought forth, the gilt of polished steel is unsheathed in a blaze of brilliance and power as magic and might explode onto fiery sands.  Ancient wisdoms beam outwards almost to the point of offending the eye in sun-hued radiance as oblong curves are pushed out to answer a quiet call for help from somewhere and someone.

Singing Sword of Need Egg
Tempered steel rushes along oblong curves, shining silver reeking of magic and sorcery as plain and polished handle trails behind. A fire-burst explodes behind deadly blade as joyful and gleeful hues reach up to enwrap themselves in the sheen of the sharp, silvery edge. Along the broad side, ancient script writhes and reels into a fiery inspiration: 'Woman's Need calls me, as Woman's Need made me, Need's will I answer, as my Maker bade me.'

Hatching_msg: Singing Sword of Need Egg trembles, steely-colored surface resonating from within as leatheren shell is strained.  Fissures form and rapidly expand, sands' heat over these past heated sevendays at last proving it too brittle to resist this change.  Green dragonet's narrow, awkward form tumbles free as the egg cleaves in two.

Desert Sage Eshu Green Dragonet
Residual heat makes draconic hide glow darkly luminous, the colour of char edging wingspars and 'sails, casting ashen highlights across all-over sage brushstrokes.  Evening hues darken at flanks and beneath wings into desert-cast greenery turning autumnal, sky at sunset, wind granulating dust in air through which light filters and kalidoscopes colour.  Slim hips and long legs well-suit ebon talons echoing in blunt, darkened neckridges.  Her wedge-shaped head ends in an elongated muzzle, eyeridges and headknobs polished to gleaming turquoise which shifts in the light, its glimpse cool relief like an oasis.

Impress_msg: Desert Sage Eshu Green Dragonet at last pauses in her wandering, Narrow tongue slips out to flicker for half a second along girl's trim ankle and taste the grit of salt and sand, before she looks upward, following slender legs upward to boyish frame and then hazel eyes.  A creeling thrum bubbles up from within her throat, excitement betrayed as she finds her One and Only, Arilynne.

Impress_name_msg: An intense, wind-borne dry heat fills your mind, along with the faint scent of roses.  << Arilynne. >>  The voice is almost unnoticable at first, like a whisper.  Then everything seems to cool and darken, the relief a desert sunset brings.  << I have waited so long for you.  Have you waited for me? I want to tell you all about it. >>  Her voice coalesses within your mind, meshing completely, making it difficult to imagine a time when she would not fit within your thoughts.

<< I am Dasuth. >>

Name Inspiration: Dasuth.  If you'll listen to the Fushigi Yuugi opening theme, you'll hear 'dasu' at the end of the line they translate as 'My awakening soul shines.' That's a little piece of FY, just for you. :)

Egg Inspiration (written by Bali): The Sword Called Need Need, a magical sword from the Heralds of Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey (And Marion Zimmer Bradley's Sword and Sorceress series).  The sword is said to give power to its bearer--who can only be a woman--in the form of magical protection to aid the swordswoman, or give expert fighting skills to those more magically inclined.  The sword also housed an actual woman who had been in the object for thousands and thousands of years; in fact, she was in existance so long she no longer remembered her origional name, and continued only as "Need."  The sword always chooses its bearer, frequently 'singing' for those who are in the position to help other women in Need.  The sword reads, "Woman's Need calls me, as Woman's Need made me, Need's will I answer, as my Maker bade me." Look at Oathbound, Oathbreakers, and By the Sword at http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/5811/fant7.htm and look at the synopsese at http://urtho.hypermart.net/vowsand.htm. If you have any more questions, you can just @send or page me :)  Also, if you check out The Mage Winds Trillogy by Mercedes Lackey, there are stories of Elspeth, the Heir to the Valdemaran Crown and her travels with the sword, as well as Nyara, the Changechild.

Magical Creature Inspiration: Eshu, from the RPG _Changeling: The Dreaming_.  Eshu are wanderers, desert folk from Africa or the Middle East.  They are notable for their wits, charm, and sense of adventure.  They are story-tellers, vagabonds, and occassionally scam-artists, though they often keep to themselves.  They are more or less the kith version of Igenites. :) You can find a bit more on them at http://www.myaroe.com/Arcadia/Changelings/eshu.htm or bug Rh'esh to type some stuff up from the gaming handbook. Desc Inspiration: Here is your mature, wise, easy-going green, yet I think she's flexible enough for you to have it both ways; Dasuth can be both a partner in crime and a tempering contrast for Aryne as she grows older.  She is your miko as well, as decorous and duty-bound as any shrine maiden.  Plus, the desert idea was nice to add, after your interview comments about enjoying sunsets in New Mexico.

INSPIRATION

Mind Voice: Dasuth will be endlessly vocal--in your head, across the dragon link, to anyone really.  As for tone, most of the time, it is just a soft murmur--you'll never have to strain to hear it, but somehow it will catch your attention more than booming roars.  She'll love to chat with you, tell you everything she's thinking, and she'll want to know everything you're thinking as well--particularly about what life was like for you before she hatched.  << Iiiee, how did you survive so many Turns without /me/? >> She's more sweet than sultry, most often saucy rather than cynical, and she'll prefer tales of adventure to any fly-by-night gossip.

Mind Scent: White roses, faint rather than cloying, new blooms and not rotting and overblown.  When proddy, you might be able to detect hints of jasmine and pomegranate, as well, as the perfuming qualities become more pronounced.

Scent: Light musk, sand, heat--almost nothing, really.  Even the stench of firestone will seem not to stick to her, when it'll permeate your leathers, hair, and clothing.  And that is the argument you'll get when you try to convince her she needs a bath.  << But a roll in dry sand will get me just as clean, Aryne, and then I will not have to wait to dry. >>  She won't be one for those fruu-fruu scented oils, though.  You'll just have to slather on as much as oil you can, and she'll be in heaven; she may even suffer through a bath or quick swim in order to receive such attentions.

Personality: Dasuth isn't vain or egotistic, precicely, but she knows she's A Good Thing, and you're A Good Thing, and together you two make A Great Thing.  She'll defend you endlessly against any criticism, all logic virtually ignored. Weyrling lessons may prove to be a trial for her, as well.  << Why must we learn it this way?  I am certain there are more interesting ways of doing things. >>  And so it goes.  Graduation will be as much a relief to her as it will be for you; at last she can have a bit of freedom to do things Her Way.  She will get things done, but she will seem to invent rules as she goes along.  She will always insist on taking the rockiest, twistiest path -- even shortcuts seem to take twice as long as the normal route.  It may take some getting used to, but you'll always find the adventure is worth the journey

Once you two begin flying together, you'll discover Dasuth has an uncanny knack of direction.  She'll be able to find the best wind currents and guide you through airpockets with hardly a skitter.  Her directional sense will be particularly helpful when you have to pick up a Craftmaster in foggy, pre-dawn Tillek, or when you're coming home from a Gather after having a wee too much Benden red.  She'll always get you home safe and sound.

Aloud, you'll find her anything but shy, even to the point of greeting each sunrise with a bugled trumpet.  Well, at least you'll never oversleep for dawn drills.   She'll creel yawns during lessons, even rumble softly (think of it as a melodic hum, sounding barely more than a vibration) when you take flight together.  And if anyone during weyrling training complains about loud snoring in the barracks at night, you'll know exactly who they're talking about.  But as the Turns go by, you'll likely notice the noises less and less--at least until, to your embarrassment, someone points them out to you.

Toes?  Well, perhaps Dasuth is a little curious.  She is interested in feet of all sorts, even the hairy and warty ones, if only for the sake of gawking.  She'll like it particularly when you pad barefoot around the weyr or wear anklets: beads, bells, or just woven from ribbon.  Fascinated, she'll watch the sway and movement endlessly.  You're sure to find it cute and even amusing--until, that is, she insists upon seeing the feet of overnight visitors to your weyr before letting them in....

Proddy Dasuth will be quieter than she usually is, perhaps, as if she is privately pondering the adventure in store for her--and you.  Her hide's glow could resonate darkly for hours /or/ days before she actually does rise, making it difficult for you to judge--even after several Turns with her--exactly when she will rise.  It will always be at the worst time: when you are just stepping into the bath or giving a report to a wingleader.  Of course you deserve the most adventuresome experience possible!

She is not an overtly sexual green, but she does appreciate many different experiences.  She will want to know what all the colors are like, and she may spend hours murmuring to you the unique pleasures and differences between bronze, brown, and blue.  She's the curious sort in all things, wanting to discover secrets and relish every possibility before moving on. Some may view her as being fickle, but truly, she knows if one wants to taste everything, one must be willing to move on.

She will never be fickle where you are concerned, though--Aryne, you are her partner and confidant.  She knew from the moment she saw your bare toes sifting through the sand that you were the one for her, the one who needed her as much as she needs you.  In all things, you are beyond reproach, just by virtue of You being You.

Physical: Her form is tall and narrow, what with her slim hips and long legs, and you'll find her walk is characterized by a particularly exotic sway and swish of her tail.  In height and wingspan, she'll match the larger greens, making her capable of more sustained flight than many of her color, but in length, she's barely average.  Quick turns and dainty landings won't be her forte, even in flights, and you may have to watch out for the occassional strained muscle or two.  For the most part, though, she will be content to stay within her limits and take things as they come.

Whether or not Dasuth actually came from Nyssath and Syrth's clutch (and, given the chaos on the sands on Hatching day, you may never know for certain), she will share Syrth's dusky-orange coloring, strikingly unusual highlights in a green.  This will be one of the only things they'll share, though, given their remarkably different personalities.  If they ever end up living or spending a lot of time in the same weyr, you can bet there will be a lot of arguments about what furniture goes where.
