Weyrside Beach
Wide sweeping steps flow in a
cascade to the water's edge like a river frozen in time, particularly at high
tide. The sandy bottom of the lake flows out at a gentle angle at first, before
dropping off suddenly to the depths of the huge lake, like the edge of a shelf,
the darkening color of the water betraying the changes.
On the side further from the Hold, a wide expanse of beach spreads out. Reflecting like perpetual stars and
winking in coy beckoning, the sand is almost silky smooth, erosion preventing
grasses appearing and thickening at the peak of the rise of land to the higher
levels of land.
Winter arrives and the monsoons hits, creating a deluge all over the Xanadu area.
Trees bend in the strong winds, their branches heavy with rain and much
of the ground disappears under a constant flood.
OOC Hatching Rules
Hello all you interested (and interesting) people!
So, you're wondering what this whole firelizard auction thing is about, right?
Well, if you've been to my previous one, you can skip this section, but
be sure to read the numbered rules below. For those who've never been to one of my auctions,
here's how it works: I have eggs. You bring nifty bartering gifts. I hold up an egg. You bid
for it with nifty bartering gift. If I choose you, you get an egg and Ari ICly gets nifty gift,
but what really happens is you @recycle said nifty gift. Each bartering item
(yes, you can have more than one) needs to be an object that I can 'look' at so I can decide
which item gets chosen. Yes, a lot of it is description based. Make me laugh, you always
get points for that, but also keep it IC. It has to be something Ari would want.
Also, and this is important, DO NOT bug the wizzies for more quota. This hatching
does not qualify as something that they consider important enough to increase your quota
amount for. If I find out that you've been bugging them, it will automatically takes you out of
the running. So, that's about the gist of it. This is going to be
loads of fun and a great way to get a firelizard. And yes, all of the eggs are from
gold or pyrite firelizards!
Okay, now for the Auction Rules. These are important. Failure to follow
these rules means that I will NOT give you a firelizard egg and may not Impress
to you in the future. Yes, I do
have a 'Do Not Impress to These People' list. So be forewarned.
1. Have Fun, any angst, bad feelings, etc. will not be tolerated and will
indeed get you @gagged by me and will ensure that you don't get an egg. I am not going to award eggs
by how many firelizards you do or do not have, but instead will award them by poses and item descriptions.
The only times this will not be the case is if you already have 6
firelizards, which is the game limit, or you are not a resident of any IC area
because you will not be able to Impress a firelizard until you become one.
2. Only one pose per Arial's pose, please! This event is spaaaaaammmy as is, so
if we can cut down on the spam that I have to deal with, I'll be supersuper happy.
And a happy Hatcher means that I'll be more likely to do this again. And that's a Good Thing.
3. Keep posing to a maximum of 4 lines. Yes, I'm looking for
something more in depth than 'Bob offers his tunnelsnake skull' but I don't want to be
spammed mercilessly. So when you pose, tell my why your bid is better than anyone else’s,
but do not take up my whole screen doing so. Also, you can rp with others in the area, that's perfectly okay, but
please be kind to the Hatcher and keep those poses to a 4 line length or so as
well. I'll give you snickerdoodles for doing so.
4. No OOC Spammage. Please do not use OOC nor page me during the auction.
Afterwards, page and OOC to your heart's content, but while I'm being
inundated with poses, I'd rather not wade through any excessive spammage. If you want to OOC
other people in the room, please use the page command. Paging me will most likely result in
you being @gagged which sadly reduces your chances of getting a firelizard. If you have to
go, I'm sorry, but that really won't change anything for me. Excessive bothering will indeed
place you on my 'Do Not Impress to These People' list.
5. Only bid for an egg if you truly want it. I've spent a lot of time
on each firelizard desc, so only bid on an egg if you truly want a firelizard and do not care
about the colors. These eggs may… and I stress the word 'may'… contain all of the
colors that a gold or a pyrite can lay, and therefore everyone's chances are as
good as everyone else’s. If I find out that I've Impressed a hatchling to you and you @recycle it very soon
afterwards, that's enough to ensure that your name goes down on my 'Do Not
Impress to These People' list. So, it's all about luck. Take a gamble,
but be willing to take whatever you get.
That's basically all of the rules. Have
fun you guys and I'm looking forward to seeing what interesting bits you all
offer up! If you have any
questions, please feel free to ask, but make sure they're not available in the
rules above.
Alizriel walks in.
Kelar walks in.
Atsuro walks in.
Lyea walks in.
Mirenda walks in.
Tully appears from **BETWEEN**
Arial sets up a small collapsible booth, a hand painted sign indicating 'Firelizard eggs up for Auction - submit your bid here!' Taking out a sand-filled basket, she places it on the counter of the booth. "Hello, hello all! Welcome to my auction." Taking out an egg, she grins, "Let's get started, shall we?"
You drop Black Egg
Anvil appears from **BETWEEN**, and gives a soft chirp before finding a place to land.
Keliana walks in.
Ukita walks in.
Arial sets down a random egg, "Hrm.. black. So, what will you give me for this black egg?" Come on, give her something... Goood!
Atsuro wanders. Watch him wander- shuffling, scuttling, skidding along the sand as he goes. Though he's not wandering alone this time- a few other herder apprentices are also in his vicinity. As it is, Atsuro's as active as a kidlet, playing with the handle of a small rucksack. "Lyea!" He calls with a happy, tuneless whistle, sidling to a stop near her. Gaping grin, then he turns to eye Arial's wares with interest. Er. Item? Let's see what we can come up with. Commence rummaging in the confines of the rucksack.
Ombi inches along the shoreline, glancing from ace to face as a small crowd of beings and creatures alike begins to accumulate. He kicks at the sand with a bare foot, his dull optics sweeping the area. Recognizing a handful of his sibling's herder-y buddies, the youth skips along to settle behind them. He'd never been to an auction before, and was sure this new experience would provide entertainment for this so-far boring night. The infinite joy.
Mirenda saunters in with her normal stride; graceful and perfect -- she's not very humble, to say the least. "Hello," she greets quietly, unfolding a piece of hide and glancing over it. She 'hmms' softly, nearing the both, yet keeping her distance. "Black. Ooo... I like black, but, well... I don't know..." A grin goes to her fellow Herders, as well.
Keliana grins as she enters the beach, watching the auction in progress. She thinks to herself, Why, I've never seen /this/ done before. She examines the egg and hmms to herself, then rummages through her bag to see what she has with her. She pulls out a few items, putting each back in turn, murmuring to herself.
Alizriel tilts her head, a black egg hmm? She rifles through her skirt pouch...Nope, nope..not that..Would that do? Oh dear which one? As she does so, she squishes sand between her toes, making small furrows in the sand.
Evaleen walks from the weyr courtyard.
Keliana sends a few scraps of cloth fluttering to the ground, and she stoops to pick them up as she examines her items over again. What /could/ I offer? She tosses the scraps back in and continues her search, hoping for something in the bottom of her bag.
Spruance appears from **BETWEEN**
Ukita arrives, sleepy as usual. With a slump, she fells onto the floor and begins to look through her bag o' baubles and clutter for something to offer up. Pale eyes consider the black egg for a moment and she pauses, turns to her firelizard, and decides to wait until she's slightly more awake.
Lyea steps out onto the beach, the sand crunching beneath her feet. "Atty? Mire!" Bursting with speed, she joins the two. "What's going on here?" Clueless Lyea... mmhmm.
Shylo walks in.
Arial peers out at the crowd with a bemused expression. "Nothing? No one wants any of these eggs?" Sighing, she looks at her gold and shrugs. "Alright, I suppose we can pack up and head north. They have less beaches there." Of course, who knows what how addled the hatchlings will be after a trip ::between::?
"Eggs." Atsuro's response to Lyea is simple, but he points to the black egg with a bob of his head. A grin is given to Ombi, as the apprentice recognizes the younger boy from previous gatherings, then returns triumphant from the depths of the rucksack. "A badge!" He calls to Arial, holding up the cloth badge with 'Blues Love Me!' stitched upon it. Oh, there's history to that one, there is.
Mirenda beams to Lyea, nodding jubilantly -- obviously, Mire was into the klah, and lacks her normal snappy behavior. "So, what do you think is in that black egg?" she queries, grinning. "Oh, Atty's going for it! And, look. His is cute." All she has is a list of her possessions/kingdom -- which is basically nothing.
Kathryn walks in.
Keliana grins at Arial, "Wait! I think I have /something/." She pulls out a small necklace and offers it in a bid. "I bid a Seashell Necklace!" She grasps the thin object, which glints in the berating Beach Sunlight. She wrinkles her brows, wondering if this is even /near/ enough.
Keliana drops Seashell
Necklace.
Adorning %N's neck, a shimmering
strand of glistening beads glints in the sunlight. As she breaths, the glare is
faded, and the true material is revealed. A string of small shells, all in a
row, hangs in a slightly curved arch on her throat. As she breaths, the shells
roll against her neck, boasting every side of their glistening radiance.
Different types rest there, some flat, round, or in a sphere, but one larger one
rests in the center; a large, white shell, rounded at the top, pointed at the
bottom, and riddled with grooves. It is slightly coned, the center rising
upwards, but it is still quite small. Such a shell is quite rare, whole and
intact. It accentuates her skin tone very nicely, and adds an overall beautiful
affect to the rest of the small, polished shells.
Atsuro drops 'Blues Love Me!'
Badge.
A badge of cheap sky-blue linen,
the edges stitched into a hard border of navy, makes up the sheild-shaped badge
that is easily pinned onto any shirt. The words 'Blues Love Me!' is stitched in
print on the front, complete with a red gash down the center- could this have
anything to do with the time Atsuro was *cough* viciously attacked by several
blues? Now with two of his own to protect him, it's still a good idea to ensure
that.. well, blues love him!
Shylo follows Lyea out onto the beach, skipping along upon the sand behind her. "Who're? Wha? What're we doing?" She peers around Lyea's shoulder, and waves to her cousin's friends. Well, if they're Lye's friends, they can be Shy's friends too. "What're we bidding on? That egg? OH!" She reaches into a bag hanging along her side, one with a few possessions in it. "I've got some stuff in here...."
Evaleen is a little late, but that's okay. She's here, and she's got her object. It's been in the family for generations - the prized possession of her great Aunt Griwelda. Many stories about Great Aunt Griwelda...
Evaleen drops Scroll.
Murkat walks in.
Mirenda drops List o'
Things.
A piece of scrap-hide, written
in Mirenda's most formal words, her normal writing of fancy loops. There is some
'read'able material, none the less.
Meaningless Matters of
Collections and Possessions:
1. Large throng of brothers:
Brillian, Mriell, Renadal, Irenimir, Beiln, Manerilianam, and Ridnamen.
2. Many trundlebugs, some dead,
some alive, some ambiguous.
3. A large collection of
redfruits and rotund objects, collected by the very tall Bob of HerderCraft.
4. This scrap of hide.
5. Chores for a day, to do what
you like with: Mucking the porcines, grooming canines, feeding felines, and
other various day-to-day things.
Alizriel pushes a strand of hair away from her face and stands up, looks like she found something. Gingerly, she takes out a Seashell box, and sets it down.
Alizriel drops Curious
Shell-box.
Seashell ripples of green and
bright blue edged with pink and gold catch fire in the surrounding light. Though
polished to a smooth shine, one can feel the faint ridges across its surface.
Cunningly hinged not with metal but with a piece of the shell itself, this
small, oval box sits lightly balanced on any surface. No matter what precarious
angle it is set at, it always seems to maintain a centered equilibrium. Upon
opening the two halves of the box, a small design can be seen, shining golden
against the whorls of a pearly pink interior. Painted with a hair-thin brush,
the design is a ring of tiny anvils encircling the letters AZ- the mark of this
box's crafter, Alizriel.
Ombi hugs his minute feline to his bosom at Arial's words, a sick feeling stabbing his gut as the statement sinks into his mind. Go somewhere else? She can't do that, can she? He shuffles closer to the booth, to the ebon-hued egg, his eyes plump with curiosity. What's gonna come outta /that/, he thinks to himself. The fire-lizard egg seemed to resemble a rock he had found once. That same rock had been used to defend his bed in the children's dorm. Now that rock belonged to the nanny who had scolded him for 'mercilessly throwing things at an innocent bystander'. Well, that bystander hadn't seemed to innocent to /him/. Nyah. Each offered item is provided an interested gaze as the kidlet continues to approach the front of the group.
Rigel appears from **BETWEEN**
Arial peers, "Okay, I have a badge, a necklace, a box, and a note.. is that it?" Ari looks hopefully at the others, yes, she's greedy.
Ukita, blinking repeatedly to awaken, finally pays more attention up front. Westley awakes just then, squawking loudly and tangling himself in her hair again, causing Ukita to try and untangle him instead of bid. Maybe that'll just make her think twice on bidding at all.
Maeko walks in.
Keliana ponders a moment on Arial's words, "Will, we um, get to make another offer if ours isn't accepted?" She raises her eyebrows in innocent query. Oh, but to have that little egg! "I have some other things. . . " She trails off.
Lyea nods, giggling. "Yea, Shy... it's that egg. But I think Atty's bidding... so, perhaps you should wait. He could always use more firelizards." Shaking her head, she gigglesnorts to herself. "Oh, Mire, what's that?" She skips over toward Mire. "A paper?"
Atsuro eyes the insides of the rucksack again, but refrains from fishing anything else out- one offer is fair, two just... wouldn't be nice. A sidelong glance is given to Lyea, and he sticks out his tongue at her. "All the more protection, hm, Ly? I need it, from your Sky and all of Crys's lot, I'm sure!"
Mirenda nods to Arial, and then to Lyea. "Yes. A piece of hide. How rare is that?" Very rare indeed- being Mire doesn't really ever bother to get such things. "But, uh... there are some important things written on there!" Like, the stuff she doesn't want. Atty is grinned at, "I supposed you've never met my bronze firelizard. He's quite... clumsy. I've been attacked many times, only because he was trying to swoop down and perch on my shoulder."
Arial has chosen and gifts the little black egg to Alizriel. Turning to Keliana, she nods, "But of course. Just because I don't pick it this round doesn't mean I won't ever pick it."
Maeko shuffles down the length of the beach, hands in pockets- "Shylo!" She calls, jogging over with a grin. "I wondered where you ran off to. Jorryn's in dropping off the extra boxes of fellis, but he'll probably be back out soon." A moments pause, as she surveys the scene. "What did you /find/ here?"
Keliana shakes her head as the egg is passed over, "No, I mean, do we only get to offer one item per egg?" She raises her eyebrows again.
Alizriel shifts from side to side, digging her feet further into the sand. Ahh, nice and warm. Bending her knees slightly so that she wouldn't loose her balance, she peers more closely at the egg. Cute little thing..Oh wait.. it was being handed to her?! Surprised, she takes the egg gently.
Shylo blinks at Arial for a moment, and then reaches down into her sack. "Yes.. this... Well, I suppose inventing things is not helpful at Healer, eh? Anyway, I've been yelled at enough for having it, by Masterhealer Ethan..." Grasping a small metal object, she begins to raise it.... and then... "Maeko! Look! Some kind of.. auction.. or something. But my cousin's here too!" A hand motions out toward Lyea. "'Cept she didn't bring anything."
Black Egg wiggles slightly as it
comes into contact with the warm skin. Black Egg explodes in a cloud of
shards.
Weyrsecond F'nor Bronze
Hatchling
Earthened bronze tarnishes silky
smooth hide, darkening the pure color until it is nothing but a muddied copy. Easily overlooked, he doesn't have any of the startling
brightness of his siblings, yet once examined there's a strength of character to
him. Dependable, honest, and
reliable, he makes a trusting friend and a stalwart companion.
Weyrsecond F'nor Bronze Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Alizriel's eyes.
You drop White Egg
Lyea snickers, and watches the egg pass into Alizriel's hands, and hatch. "Oh, a bronze! Shardit, I wish I had something to bid..." Her hands fall back to her pockets, but everything pulled out must be kept. "You'd think I'd have some junk in here..." Shaking her head, she goes over toward Shylo's sack. "Well, if I can't bid, at least you can.. Here, I'll help you find something..."
Evaleen smiles a little as Alizriel is gifted the egg. It /was/ a very pretty box, and her scroll is a bit beat-up looking. Well, Great Aunt Griwelda might not like her giving it away anyway. Taking up the scroll again, she holds it doubtfully for just a moment... and then places it down again. Maybe it just wasn't noticed? After all... this /is/ an heirloom.
“All I have to say to you on that subject," Atsuro returns to Mirenda with a grin, "Is that your attackers are, at least, not purposefully trying to tear your skin into tiny red strands. I wouldn't doubt if I've still got scars." Shrug. Next egg is spotted, and he grins. "My offer still stands!"
Mirenda claps for Alizriel, grinning genially. "Bronze. Lovely!" Mire loves bronzes -- and she has one, named Bob. How original is that name? "So, Lyea? Nothing to offer? Absolutely nothing? Surely there's things lying about the Crafthall you could have brought." Mabey you should look under her cot.
Ombi claps softly for Alizriel, unsure as to if he should actually be cheering or not. He had always been taught to stay quiet during any public event, but surely this is an exception? Head is turned, creased with a crooked grin, as the child awaits the second egg. He plans to bid sometime during this auction. The youth's smile widens as his own bronze calls his attention to the copper-scaled hatchling. Isn't it cayuuuute? Ombi then begins to frantically wave his plant about as the white egg is displayed. He then haults his infantile action, recalling that such behavior is looked down on by most. Instead, he provides an amiable wave of greeting to Arial as the plant is offered.
Ombi drops Fake
Plant.
A trio of rather unstable limbs
have been firmly placed in a small bucket of damp dirt. The pot itself has been
decorated with hand-prints and kaleidoscopic stains of a zig-zaggish design. A
sugary sweet hangs about the contraption, with a tinge of vivid tartness adds
vigor to the aroma. Clusters of leaves, torn from various plants, have been
fastened to the sticks, arranged in such a way that they seem to have been meant
to look appealing, as if pulled from some splendid paradise. But, to be
truthful, one would most likely think of the combination of mismatched fronds
and foliage as an amusing, humorous creation created by a young hand. Who else
would make a fake plant with real plant pieces? Ha. Ha ha.
Arial blinks as the little black egg hatches. "Whoa, these babies are hot..." Standing as far away from the basket as the little booth allows, Ari sets down another egg. A white one. Hrm. Not very imaginative. "Congrats," she tells Alizriel before turning to the crowd. "What about this one?"
Keliana sighs at Impression, but brightens as another egg is produced. She ruffles through her bag, and pulls out a small statue, which she lingers on a bit with her eyes. She eventually sets it down and speaks out, "I bid A Stone Statuette!" She crosses her fingers and can only hope.
Maeko eyes the egg on display with a raised eyebrow, the corners of her mouth beginning to quirk. "Really? An auction? It's new to me." Shrug. Attention is turned to the introduced Shylo's cousin, and she grins at Lyea. "Pleasure to meet you! I'm Maeko, apprentice Healer." A moments pause, and she continues. "D'you have anything to try with, Shy?"
Keliana drops Stone-Carved
Statuette.
A fine example of skill,
mastery, and elegance, this figure is the emblem of detail. A bit larger than a
foot tall, this carving is in it's own class. Each separate carving was made
with intricacy surpassing others, and detail beyond belief. The base is a
fine, polished, cerulean sea-rock, left a bit jagged with rippling waves. A
translucent piece, perhaps a rock, is glued to the back inexplicably, and this
holds all the intricate pieces together. At the very bottom, one can see two
green objects peeking out of the waves, and upon further inspection, discover
they are actually two miniscule heads. Firelizard heads, as a matter of fact.
The design is so detailed, with a sharp eye one can actually make out the tiny
neck ridges and miniscule eyes, glowing out of the deep lime skin. A bit above
them, three little blue's squabble playfully in the air. Attached to the
back-piece, they float, clawing with each distinct talon and waving their thin
wing-sails. They're blue-tinged skin is mingled with deep navy's and shrill
teal, and are off-set by their glowing rust-colored eyes. Directly above
them, getting a bit larger, the flying Browns float in lazy circles, and by
merely changing the size of a carving, the artist depicts distance. A couple of
the Browns gaze up at the scene above them, their dull hide occasionally
spritzed with red or yellow, their soft green eyes swirling with perpetual
motion. Nearly on top of the circling Browns, is the scene of which all
eyes have been drawn. Two Bronzes flit about near the Browns, chittering without
moving, their mouths eternally opened. Then above again, three Bronzes dive and
swirl, their tails almost twitching, their wings almost flapping, one can almost
see their movements, which is the amazing and unsurpassed skill of this unnamed
carver. They have their multi-hued berating eyes all fixed upon one thing; the
dancing Gold above them. She swirls, dives, floats and twists without
moving at all. Her golden hide is glimmering with each chiseled muscle, and each
wing beats furiously upon the unmoving air. Her chatoyant, faceted eyes dance,
with the glimmering colors of glowing, joyous Flight.
Surprised yet a second time, she blinks as the egg hatches in her hands. She helps pick gooey egg shards from the little bronze, giggling softly. Looking up she grins, acknowledging congratulations'
Evaleen does a little wave thing, just in case things just weren't seen. "Um.. here? My Great Aunt Griswelda's scroll?" Great Aunt Griswelda sure thought it was something special. If that doesn't get a look, she's got more treasures... from more great aunts.
Shylo grasps ahold of.. something metal? Something, long, metal, and, "The feeder!" Ah.. yea. Her spare time is often spent with the creation of junk made from healer's own junk. Well, at least it puts the stuff to use? "Hey, I'll bid this!" Her eyes fall down toward Lye, and shoo her away. "I'll try this, so maybe we can look for something for you, later?" Maybe. "Oh, and Maek.." The eyes move on to Maeko, "I'm gonna try with this contraption I made earlier. I don't really need it... well, actually, I don't really have time to use it." Grin.
Shylo takes 'Lizard
feeda',
ramming the pole into the ground.
A long, skinny pole of shiny
metal begins this contraption, as a healer mind would put it, and serves as the
base of the 'Lizard feeda'. The top
is fixed with two shiny metal bowls--often used for storage of numbweed--. Although, instead of numbweed, herdbeast is stored in those
bowls, obviously collected from that night's dinner. The bowls are affixed with bandage, and although the bandages
would normally be white, these seem to have been painted in healer hall colors.
There is a small brown firelizard perched atop, his talons holding fast
to the side of the bowl, and his tail weaved down and wrapped tightly around the
pole for stability.
Mirenda chuckles, "White and black. What a combination, no? Well, I suppose I'll again offer my piece of hide. With writing, and stuff." Wow she's happy today. Isn't that scary? Or, at least, odd and unusual? She glances towards Atty, and then towards Lyea. And then, Shylo. "Uh... that's sure original!" And odd.
Atsuro is odd, baby. As odd and unusual as you get. And that badge is still being held high- it may not be pretty, but it's got soul. Real soul. *cough* A snicker at Shylo's offering, and he grins. "Er.. if you don't mind my asking.. What..?" Voice trails off, though question is amiably offered. It's an interesting contraption!
Lyea cocks her head to the side. "So, what do you call that, Shylo?" But without an answer, she sighs, raising her shoulders high. "Oh, pleased to meet you Maeko, I'm senior apprentice Lyea." At the word 'senior,' she puffs out her chest in pride. "But.. that.. /is/ original Shylo." She agrees whole-heartedly with Mire. And kinda.. well, weird? But she won't say that out loud.
Arial's eyes are drawn to something blue... that... there! "The badge, I'll trade you this measly... err... lovely egg for that badge," she calls to Atsuro.
Maeko giggles behind a hand, stalking 'round the object in a circle. "Hey! You made that?" Eye takes in the bowls on top, and she snickers again. "And exactly where did you get all /those/?"
Atsuro can agree with that wholeheartedly, as he steps quickly up to Arial, holding out the proffered badge. Beaming happily, he smirks at Ly. "Blues love me, y'know."
White Egg wiggles... Arial panics, "Here you go," she all but thrusts the white egg at Artuso.
'Retreating' the fake plant into his arms, Ombi eyes Atsuro. Wasn't that the herder apprentice who had always feared flitters? Possibly the being had gotten over the said phobia, the boy whispers silently to himself. He then cheers softly, side-stepping to get a better look at the newest egg-owner. Being the energetic child he is, Ombi is anxious to learn the color of this young flit. Will it be another bronze? A queen? Or maybe a fun brown?
Shylo giggles, scritching Bumpo's head. "What're you doing in there! I thought.. I thought I left you at home..." But her head moves on to nod at Maeko. "Yea, I did... Heh. The bowls are cracked, actually, on the bottom. But they hold herdbeast great. And the pole? Well, it's amazing what one can find in Healer Hall trash. I'm just assuming something broke from the top... although I'm not exactly sure." Her hand falls down to fiddle with the bandages. "There's not much.. art.. at Healer.. So, being me, I did something silly. I don't need it, and offering it at an auction seems like the best thing to do."
White Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Runner Apprentice Fergal Bronze
Hatchling
Straw husks and stalks pile
high, crisscrossing across work roughened sides, lighter shafts drifting
aimlessly across delicate wingsails and waft easily along small shoulders before
resting easily amidst darker, blackened talons.
Equine in shape and form, his runnerish head rests easily on his powerful
neck and shoulders while he prances easily on his slender legs, seemingly too
dainty, too graceful for his otherwise boyish form.
Evaleen claps politely as Atsuro wins for his badge. Sigh. Great Aunt Griswelda rode the wrong color, is all. At least she gets to keep the heirloom. Tucking it back into her sack, she turns to watch as the second bronze hatches from the egg and smiles. Lovely.. and how fitting for a herder apprentice to impress!
Atsuro takes the egg, nearly juggling it between hands to keep it from dropping; his efforts dwindling into nothing as the shards fall away, leaving a soft, wet hatchling in them. "Oh!" Is the noise of surprise, as white is quickly replaced by bronze. Grinning, he picks carefully at the shards remaining on the body, dropping them to the ground. "Thank you!"
Runner Apprentice Fergal Bronze Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Atsuro's eyes.
Lyea lets out a laugh of pure amusement. "A bronze! So now.. You've 2 blues and a bronze. And he.. he reminds me of Bri's gelding." She chuckles, shaking her head. "Too lucky.... too lucky..."
Arial looks disconcerted, egad, that's two metallics. Peering at Isa, she gives the gold a rather studied look. "Just what have you been doing with who?"
Boreas swoops in from thin air, bringing with him a frozen breeze.
You drop Yellow Egg
Maeko nods thoughtfully at Shylo, grinning. "Well, if all else fails, I'm sure it would make a beautiful addition to the complex courtyard. If you do get something, make another once we get home!" Be sure, be sure. It would save Maeko from having to feed her own so often- Kozu's awfully demanding, you know.
Arial takes out another egg and offers it up, "Okay, what about this yellow one?" Any bidders?
Evaleen has something new. Her great aunts all sent her bidding materials... but this one's a bit on the scary side. It's from Great Aunt Senila - the one who's just not what she used to be? With a shrug, she pulls out her latest culinary concoction.
"Another bronze!" cackles Mirenda to Atty, beaming to the other Herder. "Just what the 'Hall needs, eh? Hopefully he's not like my Bob. You know, really bothersome." Eyes go to Lyea, and she grins, nodding. "Oh, he does! Wait 'til Bri actually sees him. She'll probably be jealous, too. Bri does love bronzes." It's one of the few things the two old friends agree on. A grin is offered to Arial, "Again, with the note... my collections, and such, you know." How... impressive?
Evaleen drops packtail pie.
Well, Great Aunt Senila tries. All her turns she's been told she's a great cook, but now, as age sets in, her recipes tend to get a bit confused. And this, you see, is how Evaleen has a packtail tart. Crust is golden brown, sprinkled with sweet sugar, but instead of a lovely fruit filling, Aunt Senila's used the packtails from the latest catch. An interesting culinary concoction, but at least, it's fresh. And yours to try, if you'd care to swap an egg.
Keliana grins as the little Bronze makes Impression, and searches for a better item. What to bid? She grasps a little book and grins, Perhaps this is good enough? She offers it to the Auctioneer, and congratulates Atsuro.
Keliana drops A Book of
Tales.
A small book, with a thick
leather cover and imprinted words: A Book Of Tales. The inside cover has a short
introduction. 'Your favorite Tales all in one book! It includes all of your
favorites; The Three Little Flits, Little Red Runner-Hood, Weyr Mouse and Hold
Mouse, Drudgerella, The Frog Lord Holder, and The Lord Holder and the Drudge.'
The next page is a Table of Contents, featuring all the books named above.
Finally, the next page is the first story. Long, loopy writing adorns its every
page.
Busily feeding her newly dubbed Tirion, Aliz sits down on a nearby sand dune. Who could think sand could be so nice? At least to her... She wriggles down in the sand.
"Bothersome?" Atsuro eyes the young bronze, snickering. "Somehow.. he doesn't seem like that type. But-" And here he shrugs, holding still as the hatchling climbs up to Atsuro's shoulder, settling down comfortably. "You never know, I suppose!"
Atsuro picks up Chronos.
Ombi again pushes the fake plant forward in a motion to bid. He will save his best item for last, he tells himself with a jubilant bounce. He then grimaces as his topaz-colored hair dangles out of place. Bad, bad hair! He fusses with it until he thinks it properly adjusted once again and tiptoes closer to his creation. An encouraging beam is produced. Yes! Take this.. thing! Take it! -- Beam.
Arial peers at the 'lizard feeder, "Who offered this up?" Ari's got a yellow egg just for you.
Shylo grins, sidling o'er toward Arial. "Me! I've made the feeder." She picks it up off the ground, plucking Bumpo off the top. She holds it out, but the wild movement tilts it slightly and a few meat pieces fall out. "Ooh. Heh, sorry!" The contraption is righted. "Here ya go."
Evaleen picks up packtail pie.
Arial trades the feeder for the little yellow egg. Good riddance. "Enjoy," she beams towards Shylo. Ari can't get rid of them fast enough.
Yellow Egg shakes slightly... Ari got rid of it none-to-soon.
Mirenda watches that... that... contraption for a moment, laughing. "If you ask me, it's something Bob would make." Not the little bronze one, but the eight-foot-tall one -- the one who can't spell, you know? Really, it's carved on a tree. He managed to put too 'o's in his name, and make Mire's label something along the lines of 'Murinda'. Scary, when people have crushes on you.
Yellow Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Goldrider Torene Green Hatchling
Vivid emerald traces its way
across her luminescent figure, unmottled and pure, she is a classical beauty.
Her greener-that-green coloring lightens along her dainty muzzle and
delineates each spectacularly jeweled eye.
Shadowshapes slip along her slender 'sails, each blur shifting shape with
her every movement.
Goldrider Torene Green Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Shylo's eyes.
You drop Orange Egg
Keliana grins a little as another egg is hatched. Lucky people. She congratulates the new green owner and eyes the Orange Egg.
Leana comes in from the lake.
Arial offers yet another one, "Okay, I have this orange egg. What'll I get for it?"
Evaleen tucks that packtail pie back in her bag. No surprise that wasn't taken. Her great aunts really haven't given her too much here that's all that valuable.. but she can try. She fishes out the offering from Great Aunt Lusha. This just might work.
Ombi peeks from behind a large leaf. No? You dun want this splendid... thing? Ah well, the though intrudes into his passive thoughts as he gathers the now drooping plant into his arms and wobbles off to the other side of the booth. Apparently Arial doesn't want it, so he will attempt to rid himself of a different item. Ter-dah! He pulls a blue clump of material from his jacket and tosses it a short ways in front of him. Ne?
Maeko chuckles as the feeder is coined winner, and grins while beaming at Shylo. "Congratulations! But make another one. We need it." A moment's pause, and she digs in the pouch hooked on her belt, drawing out after a moment a necklace with some unidentifiable but dangerous/painful-looking healer implement strung on a brown cord, and package-wrapped with a pink ribbon. "Might as well try my own luck now, hm?" 'Thing' is held up as offering to Arial for the orangish egg.
Evaleen drops Brown
Bottle.
Okay, this time it's an offering
from Great Aunt Lusha. She's the one that spends all her time in the kitchen
bottling her 'concoctions?' A slender brown bottle, is stoppered with a cork, a
faded ecru label on the front. In rolling script, it says Flavoring. Harmless,
no? But if you were to take out that stopper and smell, the intoxicating
alcoholic scent would most likely knock you back on your heels. No wonder Great
Aunt Lusha spent her days 'testing her flavorings'
Ombi drops Blue Flitterby
Plushie.
A not so expertly crafted toy,
this azure-colored plush seems to forever gaze at that sky, or into the eyes of
anything looking down at it. Seams, apparent even though sewn with inky thread,
trail along the toy's sides, back, and limbs. Unproportional wings, extremely
large for the small creature's diminutive size, droop and spread from the
plaything's body. Lime-green button eyes gleam brilliantly (as well as stick out
like a sore thumb), placed crookedly upon a sagging countenance. At least the
creator of this object had enough sense to produce a wedge-shaped head. Whiskers
and neck ridges all lean to one side, limp with heavy stuffing. A lengthy tail
protrudes from twisted legs, its base hidden by the plushie's massive wing-span.
A goofy jubilance radiates from this item, though one may consider it a disgrace
to all blue-kind (yes, even a disgrace to the blueberries).
Maeko drops 'Healer Implement'
Pendant.
Perhaps not the /safest/
accessory on Pern; this pendant is made up of an unidentifiable healer
implement, knotted with a bow to a piece of brown cord. The implement itself has
long tongs, and a metal handle, and what seems to be.. teeth? Upon the end? All
in all, it looks like a large, toothed set of tweezers; complete with a pretty
pink ribbon tying the tongs together.
"Congrats!" goes Mirenda to the fresh green-Impressee. "Oo, orange. I do like that color. Offering the same," Mirenda says, smiling genially to the rider. I mean, she's offering the things on there. How many things could you think of doing with a bunch of trundlebugs? A lot!
Willy appears from **BETWEEN**
Keliana speaks up again, directing her question at Arial, "Can we offer, uh, more than one object at once?" She blushes at all the questions she's asking, but wants to know. Another grin. "Sorry for all the questions. . ."
Kenra trudges drearily in from the weyr courtyard.
Arial considers the brown bottle of well.. she's not sure. But Ari's an adventurous sort. "Who's is this? Want an egg?"
Evaleen jumps up with a grin. Yes, Great Aunt Lusha always had plenty of people wanting to sample her flavorings. "That brown bottle is from me, Ma'am!" She's up front in a flash, and then leans in towards the bluerider with a note of warning. "Only use a little bit. Great Aunt Lusha made her flavorings mighty powerful."
Arial offers the orange egg in exchange for the little brown bottle. "What sort of flavoring is it, exactly?" Ari doesn't exactly want to keel over from its contents.
Evaleen clears her throat and glances around a bit sheepishly. Nothing like revealing family skeletons in the closet right here in front of everyone. "Well, she said it imparted a nice licorice flavor... but we could never taste anything but the alcohol, ma'am. Of course, we never told /her/ that... any criticism of Great Aunt Lusha's flavorings and she's spend the next sevenday fine-tuning it again."
Mirenda sends out her congratulatory words again -- this time to someone with taste and flavor. Literally. "Ooo. Alcohol... I'm sure they'd appreciate that -- and Apprentices aren't allowed to drink it. Alas." She remembers the handfasting of Lasarah and Cole -- tons of drinks, and all she got was klah. "I should be working on my journeyman project, too, for that reason." And many others. Like... being able to blatantly flirt with eight-foot-tall Bob; she'd never say that out loud, of course, though.
Arial cocks her head but accepts the bottle anyways. Passing Evaleen the egg, she smiles, trying not to look worried. "Ah, interesting." This little bottle may end up in the cupboard behind all those other things that she's acquired but never uses. Her junk cupboard.
Orange Egg shivers and explodes.
Orange Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
First Weyrleader Sean Bronze
Hatchling
Dark russet jigs and dances
amongst the standard bronze of this robust 'lizard while a deeper red licks its
way up powerful haunches and forelimbs and limns each vein in his wide-ranging
wings. There is a cockiness to this
little bronze, easily noted in the proud way that he holds himself.
First Weyrleader Sean Bronze Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Evaleen's eyes.
Liathano walks in.
You drop Red Egg
Evaleen cups her hands around the egg just as it quivers and explodes, leaving her jaunty little hatchling perched in her hands. She glances up with a bright smile, mouthing a thank you to Arial before attaching her eyes back down to the little one again. Her first 'lizard, and he's a beauty, too.
Arial peers at the little bronze and shakes her head. That one's a cocky one. Glad it went to someone else. "Congrats," she says before pulling out another egg. "Okay, errm, this red one?"
Maeko giggles at the explanation of the little brown bottle, but waves the 'pendant' again as the next egg is shown. A glance is given as Liathano enters, and she grins at the fellow healer, before turning her attention back to Arial. "This thing, again!" Offered, offered, offered, for the red egg.
Keliana grabs a small brown lump from her pack, and after a little fastening, she has it attached to her shoulder. She beckons her little Brown, who flies over, chirping, and lands on top of the lump. "See?" She points to the object. Boreas chirps, Oh, look at me! "Not you, silly, the Shoulder Pad! It protects you from, ah," she eyes the Flits all around her, "From, ah, inconveniences." She winks. She takes off the Pad and sets it down, "I bid a Fl-um, Shoulder Pad."
Keliana drops Shoulder
Pad.
A small brown lump, it has two
straps protruding from each side and clawmarks all over it. One recognizes it as
a protective device, that fits on your shoulder. Protection from who? Your Flit
of course! What else would you need more protection from? It guards your clothes
and your skin, keeping you scarless.
Kenra looks around and then shrugs. She might as well give this auctions a try. She fishes around, with a murmur of success, she get out a strange looking Rock.
The colors! The colors! Ombi is exceedingly overjoyed that he is not colorblind. The boy doesn't wish to depart from his favorite toy so early, and seeing as though Arial doesn't seem to interesting in an item for people about thirty turns younger, he returns it to a pocket of his jacket. Mine! He then re-offers his fake plant, eyeing the scarlet egg with bright optics. Red is known for its unpredictable actions, is it not?
Kenra drops Multi-Colored
Rock.
This rock is approximately six
inches across, and has a rough surface. It's defining feature is not it's
texture or shape, but rather it's colouring - it is comprised of a sea of
colours, from white ivory-texture specks across the surface to rose red and
apricot orange colours making lines along the face of the rock. Fuschia
polka-dots mark the top and the bottom of the rock, and the undercolor of the
rock is an emerald green. This rock emanates a mysterious light, catching
sunlight, moonlight, and sometimes trapping light and shining in pitch black.
Kathryn rushes onto the weyrside beach, a bundle clutched close in her arms. She'd just now heard about the auction that'd been going on, and as her untidy hair and red face could attest, she came as quickly as she could. "Ooh.. I'll bid on my spare firelizard costume?" the weaver says with a glance towards the egg.
"Unless you'd like a grain of sand, or something, all I have to offer is my list. And the objects that pertain with my list." Blink. Mirenda considers. "Mabey you could take a few of the Journeymen and Masters that like to boss me around, too. Like... the Apprentice Master, Eden. She's, well... she's not nice." She won't curse. "A lot of bronzes here, aren't there?" Beam, and such.
Kathryn drops Firelizard
Costume.
In the turmoil that developed
from Weaver Senior Apprentice Kathryn's journeyman project, it seems she made
one too many a costume, so why not offer it in auction? Strips of vivid cyan
cloth were wrapped around a series of metal coils that would be strapped about
the waist, in place of a tail. Long, slightly bendable metal rods were set in a
wooden board that would be attached about a person's back to represent wings.
Deep sapphire hues were mixed into the flimsy, translucent fabric that had been
attached to them, made to flutter in even the gentlest of movements. Other
random bits of blue cloth are set about to tie onto arms and legs, for a better
overall impression of a blue 'lizard. Finally, a piece of paper is attached to
the materials, showing what the costume would look like when worn.
Liathano looks shyly around, then holds up her hand. "Ummm....this?" She asks, clutching the necklace in her hand. On eye goes to looking for anyone she knows, not that that's likely, but still.....Some hope, right? Possibly?
Liathano drops Dragon
Necklace.
Delicate gold forms the long
necklace, made of chain links so tiny they can barely be told apart. The creamy
yellow melds into shining obsidian at the end, forming into the pendant shaped
as an ebony dragon, complete with detailed wings folded across its back, a raven
muzzle and tail, and silver talons. The eyes are glowing red, too bright to be a
ruby, so probably some cheap imitation.
Ombi drops Blue Flitterby Plushie.
Leana takes a Pipe out from a small bag on her side. She plays it a little, and then smiles in satisfaction at the different tones. Such pretty tones, at least to her.
Leana drops Strange Sounding
Pipe.
This pipe is long and slim, and
is colored emerald green - tinged with a silvery ray of moonlight. But the sound
that comes out of this pipe cannot possibly be. From the croon of fire-lizards
to the roar of dragons, this pipe can sound them all. How, this is unknown; but
it does this, and the usefulness of this pipe is obvious. During a play, or to
make a song, who knows, but the holes are evenly spaced on this a foot and a
half long pipe.
Keliana points to the book, "That's still up for biddin' too." She grins. Two up for bids? Ah, well, she wants an egg.
Arial's eyes land greedily on the little blue plushie firelizard. "Hey, that one. I'll take that one. Who does this blue thing belong to?"
Ombi looks boredly about him (well, as boredly as you can when at an auction for the first time), Arial's call for the blue toy not sinking into his brain at first. Abruptly, though, he perks and hops up. "It's mine, miss!" he shouts, not too loud (hopefully) but loud enough to make sure he is heard. He glances at his shoulder as his bronze screeches in agitation. Stop that moving about, you!
Neteen walks in.
Arial motions Ombi forward and trades the egg for the plushie, which is much better in her estimation than any old firelizard egg. She's getting the better deal. "Great, I'll trade you!"
Shylo picks up Classic.
Red Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Tragic Brekke Green Hatchling
Sleepy hemlock curls easily
along the dainty figure of this little green, emerald traceries creating a
paisley-pattern amidst the tributaries of veins threading through fragile
'sails. Wings flutter constantly in
self-effacing mannerisms, adding to the waifish appeal of this diaphanous green,
yet the tilt of her head, the proud set of her delicate shoulders indicate that
there's a strength that remains hidden. She
is steel wrapped in velvet, easily underestimated but never forgotten.
Liathano looks at her necklace, then shrugs and puts down her hand. Oh, well. She looks about to she who won the egg and claps for him. One eye is still on scanning the crowd, and the other is on the egg-auctioneer-person. It's times like this she wishes she had three eyes so she could watch the egg-receiver person as well. Ooo! It hatched! The eye watching the crowd is torn away to gaze at the hatchling. Purrrrtttyyy....
Lyea fumbles around in Shylo's bag, grinning as other people impress. "Oh, look Shy! I found something..." She plucks from the bag a bundle of needlethorns. "Ooh! Can I put this up for bid?" But before Shy can respond, the needlethorns are held up. "I bid this!" Hee. "Oh well..." She pauses, a little in a silly moment, and watches the green hatch. "I uh.... I bid this to whatever egg is up next?"
Leana looks amused as Ombi's toy was picked. The mischievous little kid had talent for making things did he? Her eyes sparkle as she puts that into the back of her mind. Then as he impresses she raises her head and nods towards Ombi. "Congratulations Ombi!"
Mirenda waves to Ombi, congratulating her deftly. "Red, too. I love red." Are you sensing a pattern? I am. Warm colors, obviously. "And a green from it, lovely, lovely." (Christmas colors! Not that Pern has holidays, or anything, though.) "And that little blue thing was cute." Better than the actual, living, firelizards.
Tragic Brekke Green Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Ombi's eyes.
Lyea drops Bundle of Needlethorns.
Neteen enters the beach area, her eyes scanning the crowds. A small trip to the weyr has produced nothing, the person she wished to visit is absent. The small bag of items she carries bangs at her side as she travels through those present to find out what the commotion is all about. Oh. Eggs.
Evaleen picks up Hasar.
Maeko giggles and nudges Shylo, bringing the 'pendant' down to her side as she waits for the next egg. "Bronzes and greens aplenty wow!" Shuffling slightly from side to side, she stretches her arms skywards, with a yawn. "Makes you wonder what's next!"
Arial looks over at Ombi and smiles, that little green's lovely. "Good job," she congratulates before pulling out another egg. Hrm. This one's purple. "What about this purple one?"
You drop Purple Egg
Noticing the commotion as he passes through on his way to catch a ride, he stops to investigate. Ah, what else could draw a crowd like this other than eggs. Hearing Arial call for offers on the next egg, Murkat moves forward to drop his in the sand. Why not try his luck while he's down south. Laying the staff gently on the ground, he takes another step back, all the while glancing over the crowd in the hopes of spotting someone he might know. Not that it matters much, it's just good to be able to get away from the weyr for a while. The weyr and all that work.
Ombi gratefully accepts the crimson egg, yelping in surprise as it hastily hatches. What a bargain! A toy for.. for a 'lizard. Oi, funfun. He Impresses a cuddle, cooing instead, as he scampers to Leana and demands -coughcough- /requests/ some meaty tidbits? He seems to have forgotten his. Awhoops.
Murkat drops Staff.
A sturdy shaft fashioned of aged
skybroom of approximately five and a half hands in length is tapered to a
silver-capped endpoint suitable for gripping in unlevel ground. Attached at the
top is a braided band of blue wherhide while just below it is a silver inlayed
dragon in flight. The whole of the staff is stained a rich, dark mahogany while
just below the dragon is a lightly carved small letter M. No doubt the mark of
the maker.
Leana ahs as a purple egg is dropped. Then she looks at Ombi, slightly amused. She's trying to impress her first fire-lizard by getting an rgg you know. She sighs and gives him some meat while offering her Pipe again.
Purple, hm? Maeko likes that. The color of healers! She preens happily, holding up the object once again. "This necklace, still!" The offer still stands; though one would wonder what exactly that implement is supposed to /do/.
Liathano holds up her necklace. "This, again, I suppose." Actually, she just doesn't feel like reaching into her bag for the other little trinket she brought with her. Oh, well. This one will do for now. Mebbe the next egg she can bid the other one....or both, if it comes to that. Which it most likely will.
Kathryn claps in congratulations towards the child, Ombi, and the green. Kathryn prods the costume as she looks towards the purple egg. "Firelizard costume's still for bid." Hmm.. the purple goes nicely with the fabric's shade of blue.
Lyea holds up her bundle of needlethorns, and is pricked. "Ow. Shylo? What're these in here for, anyway? Pricking people?" And she imagines Shy running across healer with her needlethorns, attacking various people. "Oooh, jeeze. But I still bid my needlethorns!" Ah, yea, now they're Lye's needlethorns. Forget Shylo.
Neteen eyes the purple egg and shrugs a little, her hand patting the bag at her side. Not much in it and the purpose was to keep a small one amused, but perhaps? She gives a small smile and offers the bag.
Neteen drops Big bag o' Odds and
Ends.
Big by some standards, this
packed bag contains many odds and ends. A comb, etched with a firelizard design,
several small glass marbles, a wherry plume, bits of ribbon, an old wooden spool
with a small bit of embroidery thread still attached, a
small wooden carving of a fish with a notch broken off the tail and
several loose beads.
Mirenda's eyelids close, and then open. "Purple?" How interesting. "Ah, well. Same thing. And, I'll add to the list, like said before. You can have Eden, too. And then all the apprentices of Herder shall breath freedom!" Blink. Something like that. "Needlethorns? Ouch..." Poor Lyea.
Ombi picks up Twee.
Arial looks at the strange pipe, drawn to it as only her Harper background can draw her. "Who's pipe is this? I'll trade you this purple egg for it."
Leana looks up, blinking. her pipe? Was that her pipe? Yes, it was! She goes forward, waving her hand slightly. "That's my pipe!" She says happily.
Shylo sighs, reluctantly allowing Lyea to take her needlethorns. "Uh, I.. suppose... you can have them..." But she's too late, and watches Lye hold them up, snickering as she's pricked. "That's what happens when you just /take/ things.. But I keep them in there.. because, well, I do. None of your business." The little green in her hands is just too adorable to hold attention to arguing with her cousin.
Arial hands the egg over to Leana, "Well then, here you go." Ari fingers the pipe softly before stuffing it into her pocket.
Purple Egg shivers slightly.
Keliana sighs again, but smiles and congratulates the winner. She decides to herself to just keep those items up there; it's enough. Later, perhaps... Oh well. Just sit back, and possibly claim your item. The eggs are going so fast, each of them a different hue, each with an adorable little Flit inside.
Neteen cants her head to see around someone in front of her. Ahh, a pipe, interesting. Well, though the odds and ends were not selected, she will opt to leave them there. Perhaps, just perhaps it might have some appeal, although for the life of her she really doesn't see how. Only a small child would find the contents of the bag intriguing, but one never knows. Slipping to one side to find a spot to sit, a rock proves good for the purpose.
Purple Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Honshu Bronzerider F'lessan
Bronze Hatchling
Burnished bronze trails
nonchalantly over this easy-go-lucky firelizard.
Stereotypically handsome, there is an air of carelessness about him that
exudes from the top of his metallic headknobs to the tip of burly spaded tail. Marked from birth, tiny firebursts crown his slender head and
flicker easily along his neckridges, a clear indication that great expectations
follow this young bronze.
Honshu Bronzerider F'lessan Bronze Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Leana's eyes.
Again go out the congratulatory words of Mirenda, to Leana this time. And her pipes. "What next, what next..." They've had some pretty weird... some very original objects. "Another bronze? Wow. Where are all these bronzes coming from? What number is that one?" This is getting confusing.
You drop Green Egg
Murkat claps at the newest impression, and what a nice pipe. As for his staff, it's just left out there, for it's the only thing he has to offer. He wasn't expecting anything like this, just supposed to have been a quick supply trip, not that he's complaining for the break. Moving back some more, he takes a seat on one of the bottom steps, intent on just watching the festivities and the people. A day of people watching beats being buried in paperwork any day.
Leana looks at the little Bronze fire-lizard and then sighs with delight, heading home, since she should get more food than she had.
Ombi nods to the meat Leana hands him and grins up at her. "Thankies, Miss Nanny!" he chirps before hustling away from the crowd to attend to his green. Sparkling eyes are diverted to inspect Leana, to congratulate her. He then continues to feed the newly Impressed creature.
Triacia walks in.
Arial smiles at Leana, "Another bronze?" Isa's been busy... very busy. "Hrm, what about this smallish green egg? Any takers?"
Liathano pulls her hand back down again, peering around for the owner. Lucky them. Digging into her pocket, she pulls out the second item she's going to bid. She curls her hand around it so no one can see it as she continues to search for the lucky winner of the egg. Oh, there she is! She claps rather difficultly, as her hands are full of bidding items. She eyes the egg to watch it hatch, then turns back to Arial to wait for the next egg. "This!" She calls, opening her hand to reveal the top, along with the necklace in her other hand.
Liathano drops Fire Lizard
Spinny Top.
A medium-sized piece of wood
carved into a strange shaped, this little toy starts out wide and round and
slowly narrows down to a point. Swirls of light blue and white spiral down from
the wide end to the narrower one. Painted fire lizards of all five colors dance
along the stripes, one with its wings down, the next with its wings halfway up,
the third with its wings all the way up, and so on. And, what does this toy do?
Why, it spins! And when it spins, the colors swirl together and the 'lizards
seem to move! Very fascinating to those easily amused...and even those not. Who
knows?
Hands to hips, Maeko eyes the next egg, green in hue- "My offer still stands!" Is called once more, as she sniffs at the so-called necklace. Hey, the bow makes it purdy! Painful pretty pink punishment 'pparatus. Er..
Kenra drops her Pouch, also gesturing to the Rock! These, these, see? She glances around and sighs. After this one hatched she'd go back to herder Hall and tend to things.
Kathryn repositions her offering a bit in order to make it look.. er.. not as crumpled. "Congrats!" is called towards the unfamiliar Leana as she sets her things down again. "Costume for the green egg!" the senior apprentice calls out cheerfully.
Keliana grins as the Eggs are paired, and the new owners leave. "My Book and that Shoulder Pad thing are still up for me. . ." Boreas chirps, and Keli strokes him a bit. "It's okay, I'll make another one."
Neteen waves her hand and points towards the bag still on the sand "Aye, but all I have is that bag of odds and ends there." Quickly she pulls back her hand, a bit embarrassed at having yelled out, a look going to the person who's ear got the loudest part of her exclamation.
Lyea holds out her needlethorns. "I bid these needlethorns.. erm... so... you can sell them to healers? And.. erm.. make money?" Chuckling, she takes them out of their bundle and counts each one. "There's, 16 in here. All are up for bid, yes."
Maelgwn walks in.
"Smallish... green egg?" Oo. Smallish. "Okay, okay. Again. I'm sure you're getting sick of me, though. But... well... I was being thoughtful. Maybe I don't have a use -- but someone else might, for all my stuff." Like... her harem of brothers? "And... okay, I stole some things from tell Bob-person." Who can't spell. Lyea is grinned at, "Yeah. Uhm. Money is good." Thorns aren't, though.
Triacia drops Gangrene-B-Gone.
A wooden pendant is polished
into shininess, hypnotizing striations of brown and black and shimmery amber set
aglow in the small insignia. Mounted into the wood is a ball of hypnotizing
semiprecious jewels, each set in one facet or another until the entire gem is a
mass of color. It is one object of shiny, and a long piece of black leather
wrapped with wire is what holds it around a wearer's neck. A certain mystique
hangs around the colorful pendant, as if there is a myth that one could tell
about it...
Triacia arrives on the beach with a laugh in her throat, which, in her opinion, is a wonderful way to go anywhere. Holding out her hand, she produces something in her hand, a leather string hanging from it. It's... frightening. "Look, everyone! It's a magical charm!" She's like a caller at a fair--and she's got an audience!
Kenra drops Animal Fur
Pouch.
As Strange a pouch as has ever
been seen, it's made of many types of animal fur-Some bits of long black llama,
a piece of twined rock grey cat hair, and so many other types. The overall color
of this pouch seems to be black, yet their are silver and brown stripes all
mixed in; yet the rope is the most interesting piece. Slim, but strong, and able
to hold the pouch, and everything in it. The string looks delicate, in the
silvery form and color, but it is far from that-all together, this pouch is odd,
yet, it almost seems perfect.
Arial hrms and scans all of the items. "This firelizard costume, who does it belong to?" Ari's got this thing for blue, you see. Nothing to do with her lifemate. Nope.
Kenra looks around and shrugs. Well, she could use the items later then.
Kathryn steps forward, taking a mild bow before straightening herself again. "The costume's mine."
Blue. Bah. Just the color Mirenda doesn't like. "Congrats! And.. uh... cute costume! My youngest brother would have flipped for that. He loves firelizards..." She beams. Hmm... another bronze? Another green? Some other color? Mire obediently waits with minimal suspense.
Shylo fumbles with Lyea's auction items. "I don't think.. I think a few other people have some better things, Lye. Maybe you should look for something else in that sack?" Dropping the sack on the ground, she fumbles through it. "There's a few other things in here..."
Arial laughs, "Well then, here you go." Handing over the green egg, she takes the firelizard costume.
Green Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
First WeyrLady Sorka Pyrite
Hatchling
Silver sweet, white gold sleeks
easily along the slender form of this dainty queen, cool ice that rivals the
burning flames that lick her chilly edges.
Rukbat's fire tinges tapering trailing edges and kisses sensitive
headknobs and her dainty muzzle, licking its way up her refined triangular head. The heat of the sun and the chill of space collide easily on
her slight form, melding into someone who is far more than the sum of her parts.
First WeyrLady Sorka Pyrite Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Kathryn's eyes.
Jasun walks in.
Jasun says, "finally... here"
Kenra couldn't stand to be away, and therefore tries once more to get a fire-lizard. She probably won’t, but has a bit more time it seems, and therefore, she will try. After all, she can have one more lizard, though if she got one, it would have to be quick. She waits for the next egg, as she offers her next things.
Kathryn beams as she steps forward and takes the egg in her hands. Her first 'lizard! And.. issa gold! Kathryn wobbles as she glances over the beautiful creature. "Thanks!" the weaver manages to squeak.
Neteen smiles and calls out her congratulations softly towards the young woman who Impressed. Fidgeting a little on the rock, she squirms a little to find a more comfortable spot.
Arial just gives up the egg before it hatches, her eyes going wide. "Well, so there was a gold in this clutch." Interesting. "Congratulations," she tells the weaver. "Must have been luck of the draw." Peering at her quickly emptying basket, she pulls out another egg. Hrm. "Okay, what about this blue egg?"
You drop Blue Egg
Liathano eyes her two items, then takes them back to offer to the next egg. She claps cheerfully for Kathryn, watching to see what the hatchling's color will be. Her eyes fall on several healers she thinks she recognizes, but decides not to go over at the hatching of the gold egg. Awww.....no fair. Oh, well. There'll always be more... hopefully. Until then she just bids both of her items at Arial's next egg.
Maeko hops from foot to foot impatiently, pausing as she sees Maelgwn stalk down to the beach. /Journeyman/ Maelgwn, no less. She snickers, grins, and waves; though she's still slightly miffed about the last lesson she had to endure. Implement is eyed again, and stuffed into her pouch- well, /that's/ going nowhere. Hmmph. A moment's pause, and she removes three items from herself, holding them up. "A jewelry set of daisies!" She calls out for the next egg, of a blueish hue.
Maeko drops Daisy Chain Jewelry
Set.
Fresh-cut daisies of a multitude
of different colors adorn this set like jewels; The largest and most brilliant
yellow blossom serving as the pendant for the long necklace. Several smaller
petals are sewn into the black cord, creating an effect much like an avian ruff.
Bracelet accompanies the necklace, created with smaller, less developed blossoms
of purple and pink; petals of blue serving as their divider. Last, but not
least, a smaller length of cord is tied into a ring, with a tiny orange blossom
atop it.
Eden walks in.
Kenra quickly offers up her stuff hopefully, but she had to leave soon. She sighed, oh well, it's not like there wouldn't be more hatchings.
Murkat ooos, "Way to go. A gold!" he calls out from his seat on the steps. So he doesn't know the person, doesn't mean he can't congratulate them. Smiling at the girls joy, his eyes wander the crowd waiting to see what else will be offered up. Lots of good things he's seen so far. His staff still lies in the sand just waiting to be admired.
Triacia scratches her head at the pyrite hatchling, calling her congrats over to mingle it with the rest. A hand waves and goes to the herders in general, then she continues, calling out to people things magical and investigatable. "It makes sickness go away!" she assures. Her little gem Thing is held out for examination, getting a snort from some bystanders. "Hey, the pendant for that thing, there, the round one!"
Neteen leaves the bag right where it is, sand piled up around it a little as people's movements have kicked the granules over the tie string.
Kenra sighs, and then grabs her stuff. She has to go.
Maelgwn grins a little and heads down towards the apprentices. He was one only a scant few days ago. Holding his single item in his hands, he blinks a little as he looks over to Arial. "A Blue egg, y'say?" He asks, head tilting to the side. "Nah..." He doesn't want another blue firelizard. The one that he has is enough. But what if it isn't a blue? He bites his lip and thinks on this for a long moment. No... Not this time. Next one. Promise.
"There was a gold? And from a small greenish egg. Fancy that." she giggles, still holding her note, with all the... things on it. And a few missing, like *Eden*, until she can procure something to write with. Mirenda grins and shrugs. "I'll offer. Even if I'm not ecstatic about the color blue.".
Eden just raises an eyebrow toward Triacia as she walks into the area. She's not here for the auction because her player is too lazy to desc and doesn't have enough quota anyway, so she's just gonna spam Arial. Funfun. She waves toward the herders as she folds her arms, just watching with amusement.
Arial hrms and beams out at the crowd. Ari's a packrat, indeed she is. "Who's this bag of bits belongs to," she asks, pointing at the bag of odds and ends.
Neteen was watching some of the others and viewing the offerings when she hears a question about a bag of odds and ends. Blinking she raises her hand a little "Oh, the bag? That's mine."
Arial peers at Lady Holder and laughs, "It figures. Want this little blue egg for it, Lady Neteen?"
Jondalar walks in.
Triacia looks at the bag, raising a brow and calling out, helpfully, "Not me!" Waving to Eden--perhaps waving her over--the girl calls out. "Hey Eden! You wanna hear about my mystical pedant, don't you? It makes people unsick!" Lechery is out of range, though.
Neteen blushes a little and nods "It's not much? Are you sure? The things in it really would only appeal to a child... so in all fairness, if you would prefer to back out, I'd fully understand. If not? Why then, yes!"
Keliana settles herself on the sand. How many eggs could there be left? Not enough. She glances at her offered items, and sighs again. Too many good items, not enough room for a poor Weaver. Oh well, I should be promoted sometime, then my goods will be worth something.
Seriprotus shatters from **BETWEEN** like the icy visage he is.
Lyea drops the needles back into the bag, looking about... "OOH! Neat! I found three beanbags." She pulls them out, tossing them about and missing everyone as they fall to the ground. "Shylo? You can't juggle right... I'll bid these..." She collects them off the ground, and holds them in her arms.. "For any other eggies."
Arial heys, are you calling her a child. Bah. "Of course I want to trade." And to prove it, she all but thrusts the other egg into Neteen's hand. "I don't want the eggs, that's for sure."
Blue Egg shivers and well... hatches. Duh.
Blue Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Weyrleader F'lar Bronze
Hatchling
Rukbat's flare shimmers across
the light metallic hide of this little bronze, golden color tempered to a deeper
bronze along the darker undersides of his seemingly fragile wings and limning
each dagger sharp talon. Ruggedly
handsome, each muscle and angle lends this firelizard the air of strength and
courage. He is the golden boy, the
one who can do no wrong, the one who will lead his compatriots into the next
Turn.
Weyrleader F'lar Bronze Hatchling creels happily and looks up into Neteen's eyes.
Polijke walks in.
Neteen inclines her head graciously and blinks as the egg appears in her hand and just as suddenly cracks open. Oh my!
Lyea drops Juggling
Beanbags.
Three bean-stuffed bags, fit for
a game or otherwise, pair to each other. One of the beanbags has red fabric with
black firelizards--or at least, assumed as firelizards, because of their tiny
size and number--. Each firelizard is posed in flight. Another beanbag has a
large dragon in the center, most likely a caricature of Faranth, as it seems in
a heroic pose. It is green and gold, the dragon the obvious gold section. The
last beanbag matches the first, except in color. It is white and blue, with
firelizards streaking across the front. Their newness seems to shout 'Juggle
me!'
Alaric walks from the weyr courtyard.
Wow. Arial is good at eradicating of eggs. Oh! Loooooook. It's Eden. Without something. That's okay, all Mire has is a list. "Hello, Apprentice Master," she says sweetly, instantly changing tones. Yes, Eden. She loves you. "Hmm... well, another bronze! There are a lot of those!"
Arial runs her fingers around the inside of the basket and frowns. "Last one," she tells the audience. "Who wants to bid on this.. reddish egg?"
Maelgwn tilts his head to the side at this latest offering and grins. This looks like it could hold something a little more interesting. Placing his firelizard figurine down on the floor, he steps back. That little piece was acquired through a... friend, and he's always wanted to get rid of it. Lets see if it'll go this time... Might even get a real one to replace the flowing yet not moving form of the figurine. Appearances could be deceiving, with those eggs!
You drop Magneta Egg
Liathano claps softly for Neteen, humming softly as she looks to see if its another gold. Most likely not, but it's fun to wonder. When the egg hatches, Li smiles. "Oh, another bronze." She says softly, musing aloud to herself. She does that sometimes... Scary little healer who talks to herself...Well, at least she's not as bad as her herder friend who talks to animals and expects them to talk back. "These, again." She says in response to Arial's next egg.
Eden furrows her forehead as she walks toward the always-unique senior journeyman. "Sure thing, Tri!" she replies with a smirk. "Perhaps we could give it to some of the apprentices," she attempts to whisper (rather loudly). "After all, they do seem a little..." Finger circles around her temple. She raises an eyebrow toward Mirenda. Perfect example there. "What did you do this time, Mire?" That one is always guilty...
Maelgwn drops Wooden Firelizard
Figurine.
It is said that the inanimate
can assume a semblance of life within the most skillful of fingers, their static
bodies made pliant by clinical manipulation, an ember of life to coruscate
magnificently within their hearts be they timber or iron. Such is the case here.
Birthed under a tender eye is this exquisite figurine, this thing of polished
wood and bejeweled gaze coruscating magnificently within the light. Perfection
incarnated. Measuring some five inches in length, it is drowned in the brooding
luminance of autumnal leaves, liquid shades of caramel and deepest tan dancing
unrestrained across the sanguine dimensions of its person. The delicate
countenance is clasped in streamers of darkest russet, intertwined with a hue
not unlike blood, aged till it is but a fleeting suggestion, a whispery and
ravenous glint of red against the backdrop of mahogany. Downwards, the colors
pour, their path accentuated by the veins of the wood that compromises this
exquisite being, a parade of darkling threads looping across the entirety of his
masterfully-woven person. They darken now, these vibrant hues, polished to an
understated finish, a sense of modulated perfection that manifests in the
gossamer aureate shine sparkling along its stoic limbs. Ebon has been inserted
for his claws, carefully sculpted into lifelike talons. Its wings are held
partially pinioned to its narrow abdomen, shuttered, as though in anticipation
for the hunt, palest leather to link those fragile sails to its main torso.
Again, the hues grow shadowed, as they lope along his posterior, entwining with
the tail, the hint of wood-whorls, into a color seemingly dipped in shadow, like
a tree branch caught in a tempestuous night. For eyes, the carving has polished
garnets, gleaming like the heart of a fire, the molten corona of a sun,
brilliantly magnificent, wedged within his attenuated muzzle. All in all, a
heavenly manifestation, this is.
Last one? Maeko better offer her last item. An old boot is tossed out; Maeko /does/ like boots, after all. This one seems to be rotting somewhat, seeing as how she found it in a lake nearby the healer hall. "The daisy jewelry set! And this… boot!"
Maeko drops Old Rotting
Boot.
An old, leather work boot, heavy
with a thick sole- the rounded toe is wearing on the end to a rust-like color,
and rotting laces are hanging from the holes. The tongue is ripped in two, and
all in all, it's a fairly unappealing item. Seems to be waterlogged, as if it
spent a turn or so in a lake.
Triacia presents her pendant--the Gangrene-B-Gone--to Eden, a mischievous grin on her face. "It's gets rid of gangrene! And it grants three wishes! And it's pretty, to boot. Isn't it cooool?" she asks, holding the thing out. "Oooh, reddy egg! I have Gangrene-B-Gone!"
Mirenda is perfectly innocent. "Oh, nothing, ma'am!" She beams. Can't you just see that halo forming? "Bright pink!" Alright. "I offer this again." Brothers. Trundlebugs. Hides. Chores. Edens. She likes magenta, as well. Odd girl.
Keliana stands, Last one? "I will still offer my book and my own Shoulder Pad invention . . . together! It's one bid." She's desperate, and just crazy for an Egg. She starts to pull on her dress, hoping, her fingers crossed.
Alaric got here just in time, it seems. People are offering things for eggs? Well, other than his clothing, which.. just would be wrong, out here in public, the poor man has little but his lunch. But in the spirit of things, he lays down the plate. It's not like he's feeding a 'lizard, but the organizers might be hungry. Then again, looking at the lunch, maybe not.
Alaric drops Alaric's
Lunch.
A platter from herderhall, it's
covered with the type of foodstuff only herder can offer. The best of meats make
the best of stews and it would be, if cook didn't just reheat the same over and
over again, just adding a little more in every day. Legend has it that this
particular stew is nine turns old. The flavorings are rich and deep by now as
only finely aged stew can be. Hunks of tubers and fingerroot float in a savory
gravy, and to sop up the juices? One of the Craftmaster's own famous biscuits,
complete with butter.
Well, it looks like his break is short lived. With this being the last egg, it won't be much longer before Murkat's back on his way to the weyr, and all that is waiting for him there. In the meantime though, he'll just sit right here and enjoy the freedom. Just then he notices a familiar face, one of those herders from back when he was there, but that was another lifetime ago practically and so he says nothing. Instead just continuing to lounge on the step and watch his staff.
Lyea tosses about her juggling beanbags. "Oh, I'm bidding this! Or rather.. These!" Giggling, she again drops them all on the ground. "Cuz none of us here can... really... juggle. Heh." They're picked up, arranged, and looked at. "There's firelizards... a dragon... and firelizards again." She holds each up, showing the bidder, as if Arial couldn't see.
Eden grins toward Triacia. "I'll give you a herderbrat for it!" she tells her with a grin. "I'll even throw in a Deciron and a Mirenda as a bonus." Eyes turn toward Mirenda and her little list. "I am /not/ for auction, thankyouverymuch," she murmurs with a chuckle. "Masters for firelizards... I declare..."
Neteen now sits with hands full of egg-goo and creeling firelizard. A desperate look towards a nearby person produces some meat and she thankfully begins stuffing that open mouthed craw with as much as the little one will take.
Arial is indeed hungry and therefore Alaric's lunch is eyed greedily. "Okay, you with the food. Bring that here and I'll give you an egg for it." Cheap meal according to Arial. Yumyum.
Jondalar trots in, yes he followed his Lady Holder "M'lady Neteen.." he salutes for a moment then looks around with a rather.. sly grin, waves to Eden and scoots over towards the action.. And what’s he offering? Himself of course! What else is more cuter then himself after all! Yes, he's making himself a Slave for a Day! Chores... other stuff, like… cleaning pots and pans! Yes, innocent things like that... and if not himself... he'll offer his fine sword..
Keliana sighs heartily, and eyes her items. Well, I guess they weren't good enough. She brushes the sand off of her dress, and straightens herself off.
Jondalar drops Sword.
A sword that’s sharp and shiny
and might almost look menacing, this length of gunmetal gray steel, except for
the delicate tracery of designs that parallel the edge. The decoration is not
elaborate, but still meticulously done, and each of the tiny runners are a shade
lighter than the metal itself. In contrast, however, the handle is anything but
fancy: wrapped with cloth for comfort and made for ease of handling, it makes
the sword look less fancy.
Alaric leaps up, grabbing the plate. It didn’t seem likely, but it seems Arial is hungry even for this. "Herderhall's stew. Once you've tried it... well, you don't forget it." He offers the plate with a grin.
Kelar walks in.
Maelgwn looks at this figurine and sniffs a little. He so wanted to get rid of it. Almost as much as Arial wanted to get rid of the firelizard eggs. Moving to pick it up with loathing, he looks at it, and decides that... no, he won't throw it away. Keep it for another day.
Triacia raises a brow. She hears 'Herderhall' and 'Stew', and blinks in the direction of the newest recipient. "Oh shards, that's Alaric isn't it?" she asks, snickering. She calls out to Arial, "There's nothing like good stew... And that's /nothing/ like good stew."
Arial's tummy rumbles and she trades the egg for the platter. "Lovely. And here you go," she passes the egg towards the Herder. "But be warned this things tend to hatch rather-" Ari's cut off because as soon as the eggs rests in Alaric's hand it hatches!
Magneta Egg explodes in a cloud of shards.
Lord Holder's Daughter Narilka
Green Hatchling
Dusted ivy twines its way up
hollyhock limbs and traces slender veins in each wing, dark on dark that melds
in a dusky pattern along her lean frame. Paler
jungle leaves criss-cross across delicate wingsails.
More lengthy than most greens, her height gives her a head over most
other greens. She's not delicate,
but instead steady and reliable, dependable and level headed.
"But I don't want to be auctioned off..." whines Mirenda to Eden, sniffling innocently. She's a little angel, I tell you. She glances over her list again, and finally folds it up. "Looks like you got off easy, Apprentice Master. Seems you won't be sold, or whatever." But she did want to get rid of those things. Like... her brothers. Especially Brillian.
Lord Holder's Daughter Narilka Green Hatchling has found the one she's meant to save. Alaric holds the key to her heart.
Jondalar oh wells with a wide grin, he didn't /really/ want to do the slave/drudge thing anyway... and beams again, scooping up his sword. "Milady..." the tall guard murmurs very dignifiedly.
Alaric's eyes widen as the egg bursts into his hands, leaving a tiny, creeling green instead. "Ah, lovely," he sighs, stroking her head with a finger. "For this, you can even keep the plate." Just got here, but he'd better head on back to find more stew. For himself and the newest little one.
