Deck 4: Habitat

September 5th - YTV:
Gordon's description of the Mission

[NOTE: Gordon is wearing the same clothes he wore in Reflections, just to give you an idea of when this interview took place]

Aashna: Tell me about Deepwater's mission.

Gordon: The Deepwater, the ship, uh, the mission is to get back to Earth and repopulate humanity, because Earth was wiped out somewhere around 2100 by a virus called the Pandora virus. Deepwater Black is an area on Mars, where the Araxes Base is, where a colony that live on Mars get together, a bunch of scientists, create the ship, the Deepwater, by taking a freight ship, revamping it and sending it into space with genetic samples from the human race, frozen, to be awakened in 500 years and come back to Earth and repopulate after the virus is gone.

[Scene from Lullaby]

[Bren is sitting in the Habitat watching the viewscreen with the Remote Control in his hand. The screen shows the alien ship firing at them. Bren freeze-frames it. Everyone but Zak is in the Habitat eating or something.]

Yuna: Bren, give the instant replay a rest!

Bren: What if the hostile comes back? I want to be ready.

Lise: Don't worry, we're ready.

[Reb walks over to him.]

Reb: No, we're not. We got lucky.

[End Scene]

Aashna: Your characters have come alive a little bit too soon; now what kind of problems do they face because they're not quite seasoned by years of programming?

Gordon: They're like genetic samples that have been grown into clones that wake up on a spaceship. And, as you say, they're awakened by aliens and we're not quite done being implanted, ingrown, and so we have to deal with a lot of filling-in-the-blanks. And so because we're young, trying to fill-in-the-blanks when you also gave the relationship and things like that, it tends to cause a little conflict.

[Scene from Fugue]

[Bren waves his fork around with a piece of food stuck on it after taking an unsatisfactory taste in the Habitat]

Bren: This food sucks.

[Reb walks in from the command deck holding an energy bar and a sour expression]

Reb: I can't tell which is the food and which is the package.

[End Scene]

Aashna: Now are your characters anything like your real personalities because you're all getting to know each other for the first time?

Gordon: Absolutely, this show does reflect life in that yeah, we're six people and we have no lives; we're essentially 18 year-old babies and we have no memories and we don't know each other, so yeah, as we've been getting to know each other on the show, our characters have been getting to know each other, so that's kinda helped as we've gone playing that reality.
