Contacts Of The First Kind

My First HF Contact

This represents the confirming card of my first HF contact. Brant's call sign at that time was KQ4XP and he was 15 years of age. By the time I had my first QSL cards printed and sent out he had upgraded and gotten a new call sign. I can remember his comment that the only reason he didn't have the Extra class license was because he didn't like the call letters that were being issued at that time. I hope you like this call Brant and are still out there enjoying the hobby.

My First DX Contact

The above QSL was the second of five contacts I made with Ray. My first contact was in August '93 and the third was in March '95. Ray's call now is ZP5XF and you will find him as ZP5XF/CX at his current location in Uruguay. It would be well worth your time to visit his excellent web site http://www.qsl.net/zp5xf. My log shows I have also worked him with his new call in October '97 on 15M and in March '98 on 10M. Good luck and very best wishes to Ray and his family.

My First DXpedition Contact

I contacted this Dxpedition using the HTX 100 with 25 watts to a ground plane antenna at 30 ft. At the time they were operating in a split transmit and receive mode. As you know the HTX 100 doesn't have duo VFOs, so I had to put the two frequences in the memory and hit the up and down button each time which was a task in itself. I want to thank this team of operators for what was my first and most memorable Dxpedition contact of all my HF operations.

My First QSL Card

This is also my first HF contact with my wife, Julia, KC5BFL.
