Deku Sticks: Long branches of trees which have been broken off. You can use them as a weapon, using vertical strokes and Jump Attacks, but they break upon impact; you can carry upto 10. Also, because they are too long to hold with one hand, Link cannot use his Shield while holding a Stick in his hand. A more economical use for them is as torches; get the end of a Stick into a lit torch and you can carry the flame to another torch. Remember that lit Sticks burn to ashes, but you can put them away to prevent losing the stick.
You can increase the number of Sticks you carry for 40 Rupees. Enter The Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest, then taking the first two lefts. Travel to the end of this area, defeat the Business Scrub and talk to him to cary upto 20 Sticks.
Another way to increase your Sticks is with the Skull Mask. Enter The Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest, then turn right, left, right, left and left again. Towards the back of this area are some butterflies; walk near them and you'll fall down a secret grotto called the Forest Stage. Don your mask and, when the Baby Scrubs swamp you, head to the right of the room and talk to their mother, who'll allow you to carry 10 extra Sticks.
Deku Nuts: Throw the nuts to the ground and a flash of light will be generated, stunning all the enemies within its range. They work wonders Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly before getting the Boomerang.
At first you can only carry 20 Deku Nuts, but you can increase this number to 30 by entering The Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest and taking the following route: right, left, right, left, left, straight ahead, left. Bomb the boulder here and enter; one of the Business Scrubs will upgrade your Deku Nuts for 40 Rupees.
You can also increase the number of Deku Nuts you carry by 10 by heading for the Forest Stage in The Lost Woods. Show the baby Scrubs the Mask of Truth, and their mother will increase your carrying ability. Note that you must have this upgrade before getting the Light Medallion!!
Fairy Slingshot: Your first projectile weapon is found Inside the Deku Tree. As well as attacking enemies, it can be used to activate switches. The Deku Seed Bag stores your ammunition.
Deku Seeds: These small, hard seeds are the ammunition for the Slingshot.
Boomerang: One of the best weapons of the game, the Boomerang is located Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly. It has a wide arch and a good long reach. Use it to stun the enemy and to activate certain switches; it can also be used to collect certain out-of-reach items. Unfortunately, Link's Boomerang-throwing method doesn't match the one used by indigenous Australians.
Bombs: Bombs explode, damaging anything in their path (including Link!). They can be used against the enemy or to reveal hidden areas by blowing apart boulders and weak walls. You must have a Bomb Bag to carry them.
Bombchu: You can carry upto 50 Bombchus, but you can only carry them after getting a Bomb Bag; purchase them from shops or find them within chests. Bombchus are little mice-like devices which, when released, run along floors or up walls. When they hit something which can be destroyed with a Bomb, or if their timer runs out, they'll explode.
Magic Beans: Buy these from a hungry guy at Zora's River - you won't have to travel far to find him. Plant the Beans over soft soil and a plant will sprout; in the future, this plant can be used as a ridable platform. You can carry upto 10 Magic Beans. The first Magic Bean costs 10 Rupees, but this price increases by 10 Rupees with each purchase. To buy all of the Magic Beans, you must invest a total of 550 Rupees. The ten places where you can plant the magic beans are:
Lens of Truth: A treasure of a long-deceased bloke who lived in a now torn-down house at Kakariko Village. Find the Lens at the Bottom of the Well. Use it to see through fake walls and to spot invisible platforms and enemies.
Din's Fire: Infiltrate the Hyrule Castle grounds and head for the dead end. Bomb the boulder and enter the Great Fairy's Fountain, where you'll gain this. This creates a dome of fire, which expands and incinerates anything in its path.
Farore's Wind: Enter Zora's Fountain and swim for the island in the south-east. Bomb the weak wall here and enter the Great Fairy's Fountain. You can only use this spell when inside an underworld area which has a map; it creates a warp point which returns you to the entrance of the room. After returning to the warp point, the point is dispelled.
Nayru's Love: This spell creates a dome around Link, protecting him from enemy harm for a reasonable period of time. To find it, head for the Desert Colossus. There are two palm trees standing all alone near a weak wall on the north side. Bomb the area and enter the Great Fairy's Fountain.
SWORD
Kokiri Sword: This hidden treasure of the Kokiri was forged by a great Kokiri warrior, who hid the sword so that future generations wouldn't harm themselves by using the sword. It is the primary means of attack. It is located in the Hole of Z, at the Forest Training Centre in Kokiri Forest.
Flame Spin: Once you have some Bombs, head for the summit of Death Mountain where Kaepora Gaebora waits. Bomb the weak wall next to the entrance of the Death Mountain Crater, inside which the Great Fairy waits. From now on, spin attacks will be accompanied with a circle of flame which will increase Link's offensive power; they can also penetrate walls and other barriers. Flame Spins consume magic power, and you must get this technique before you can get any other magic!
Deku Shield: The Deku Shield can protect you from most attacks, but be sure not to catch fire otherwise it will burn! If the fire attack hits the Deku Shield, the shield will absorb the attack but you will still lose the shield. If the fire attack hits Link, then you'll still sustain damage and lose the shield! The shield can only be purchased from the Kokiri Shop in Kokiri Forest, or from certain Business Scrubs.
Hylian Shield: Standard issue to the Hylian Army, this shield is coated with metal, and so will not burn when exposed to fire. However, the shield is too big and heavy for Link to hold in front of him, so instead he'll duck under it like a turtle under his shell.
This shield can be purchased from the Bazaar for 80 Rupees, but show Zelda's Letter to the guard at the Death Mountain Trail start to gain a discount, which can go as low as 60 Rupees. You can also get the shield for free: enter Kakariko Village's graveyard, where the first row of graves has some flowers in front of it. Pull this grave aside (do this during the night, or the little kid won't let you!) and enter. A chest within the grave has the shield.
Link starts the adventure with nothing but the clothes on his back and the boots on his feet. Though it is possible to find other tunics from the Goron and Zora shops, they are too big for Link to wear. Link is also unable to change his boots, and not just because he can't reach the areas necessary to find these new boots. However, these clothes are infinitly durable and Link will never need to replace them. However, be wary of fire attacks; if one connects, Link's clothes will still burn for a period of time, causing him even more damage than the initial attack, so swing the Sword or use a Rolling Attack to smother the flames.
Goron's Bracelet: Poor Darunia within Goron City needs cheering up: play Saria's Song to him and he'll give you this item. It allows Link to pick up and carry Bomb Flowers; you'll need this to enter Dodongo's Cavern.
Silver Gauntlets: These strength-creating armbands are found in the Spirit Temple, but are too large for Link to use.
Deku Seed Bag: Found with the Slingshot, this is where Link stored his Deku Seeds. At first it holds upto 30, but you can increase this by 10 by entering The Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest and turning left. Hanging on a tree is a large wooden circle, actually a target. Score three bulls-eyes in a row (a chime will ring and the number 100 will appear) and a Deku Scrub will give you this.
You can also carry 10 extra seeds by getting a perfect score at the Shooting Gallery in Hyrule Town. The targets come in the following order: rising from the middle; appearing from the left, appearing from the right; jumping up from the middle; two appearing from the left and right; two scrolling accross from the left along the top and two more scrolling from the right.
Bomb Bag: Made from a Dodongo's stomach, you must gain this bag before you can carry Bombs or Bombchus. You find the first Bomb Bag in Dodongo's Cavern, which can hold 20 Bombs. You can get a bigger Bomb Bag and hold 30 Bombs by stopping the wild rolling of the Hot Rodder Goron at Goron City, near his sign, using a Bomb. After gaining this Bag, you can also get a 40-Bomb bag by playing Bombchu Bowling at Hyrule Town.
Silver Scale: A treasure of the Zora, this allows Link to dive upto 5 meters in depth. To gain it, play the Diving Game at Zora's Domain and collect all of the Rupees within the time limit - this is actually rather easy.
Golden Scale: Link can only find this when is is an adult, but he can use it when he is young as well. It allows him to dive upto eight meters.
Stone of Agony: This secret-finding stone will vibrate when you're near a hidden area. Note this item is useless without a Rumble Pak. Get this as a prize for releasing a youth of the Skulltula family from the curse.
Gerudo Card: Though this card indicates Link is a trusted ally of the Gerudo race, none of the guards will believe a young boy like him could possibly gain it.
