Harmon Rabb idolises his missing-in-action father, which is why he decided to join the US Navy aviation corps. But during a training run a heavy storm moved over the aircraft carrier on which he had to land his tomcat, causing a crash which killed his copilot and left Rabb with Night Blindness. His condition made him unsuitable to return to a combat position, so Rabb joined the Navy's JAG (Judge Advocate General) Corps, basically the US Navy's investigavite, defense and prosecution lawyers. But this change in career does not shake Rabb's tenacity which made him the perfect Navy airman stereotype image created from Top Gun, which is just as well because often it is a mere shred of an occurence which can break the case.
