a sleeping world of mornings


grasping the ungraspable

the image of light traveling millions of years to be absorbed
by tiny receptors in our eyes just makes my conceptual mind
boggle. the emissions generated by stars that date back to
the times when dinosaurs, or even single celled organisms,
still lived on earth just doesn't seem to be an easy concept
to understand.
 
we live in a world where so much can be explained and so much
more is being researched, but science seems to come back to
the one principle, that whatever hypothesis you make or
whichever theorem you apply it is still but an approximation
of what actually occurs in the world around us. The 'hugeness'
of everything out there just can't always be explained. So to
us earlier approximations seem crude, like the belief that the
earth was situated in this big bowl with holes punched into
it through which pinpoints of light shone.
