Siobhan
returns to the cave and briefs Talanos. "We'd better get
back there
and find out more about what's going on." The blonde then
swims back out towards
the shore with her possessions...
Talanos
strips once again and follows the woman again, pushing a piece
of driftwood
which is carrying his weapons, clothes and gear.
Yahn looks
up at the mountain, gives a shrug and hops into the boat.
As Glant
follows Cronar onto the raft "I hope this thing is sturdy
we seem to be putting a lot of weight on it. Bythe way does anyone
have any information on this witch that you all are going after?"
Cronar pushes the raft away from shore
once again. In minutes Siobhan and Talanos are with the raft
asking questions with Cronar answering as best he can. You maneuver
threw the falls and find a shallow landing area on the other
side. A narrow passage leads to a dark room.
Siobhan
swims back to the cave just ahead of the raft, dresses, and picks
up her sword, ready for action...Slipping from the water, Talanos
once again brushes the bulk of the water from his body before
redressing once again. Giving Siobhan a wink he says, "You
and I have got to stop meeting like this! What will the others
think?" Still smiling, he slings his bow across his shoulder
once again and takes up his two short swords, one to a hand. When
the others finally make it to the landing, he sees the two newcomers
up-close for the first time. Looking around at the others he asks
in a quiet voice, "Looks like you either found some new friends...or
they found you." Stepping forward, he gives a small bow and
says, "Well met, traveler. I am Talanos of the Forest
Glade, woodsman by trade. Are the two of you joining us on our
quest? "After getting an answer (and possibly a short description!)
from the two, he shows them to the chamber with the pool of water.
When he gets there, he points at the chalice and the water and
explains, "When we were first up here, I drank three chalices
full of water from the fountain. I was thinking at the time of
the riddle that Jourgen told Marta back in Briss,
so I thought that it might bestow some sort of power upon me.
Like being able to see in the dark, for instance. But, as far
as I know, nothing has changed, though Siobhan did give me a start
when she told me that I had suddenly gotten hairy!" Glancing
at the woman, he hisses at her, "And for that you will surely
be paid back in full. Plus interest!" the fountain
Glant,
upon noticing that it is hard to see in this room, "if everyone
would like i will give us some light", he then begins to
chant.(light
spell).
"Hail and well met, my name is Horst
Forseti of the 'Order of Mjollnir',"
Horst moves himself around the raft and towards shore once again
continuing
"as for our quest, well it involves trying to help Odin recover
his eyes.
Now then. Any chance of a hand getting out of here..."
Siobhan
swims back to the cave just ahead of the raft, dresses, and picks
up
her sword, ready for action...
Slipping from the water, Talanos
once again brushes the bulk of the water from his
body before redressing once again. Giving Siobahn a wink he says,
"You and I have
got to stop meeting like this! What will the others think?"
Still smiling, he slings his
bow across his shoulder once again and takes up his two short
swords, one to a
hand. When the others finally make it to the landing, he sees

the fountain
Yahn introduces
himself to the others, "I am Yahn Shawman. I met the
others on the other side of the water." Yahn steps back to
look at as
many of the party as possible and asks, "What riddle do you
speak of
and why are you trying to recover Odens Eyes? What value do they
have
to you personally? Do you know what this Witch plans to do with
them?"
"BY THE GODS", stammers Cronar
as he stares at the walls within the fountain chamber. As appearing
before his eyes with the glare of light brought forth by the wizard
named Glant, the walls are transparent and within them is if buried
in ice he sees the figures of Titans within the walls a dozen
in all! [Each Titan appears real, standing about twenty feet tall
wearing full chain mail with helms all shining in magnificent
silver.]
"Criminy!", exclaims Lester,
"those can't be real." Walking right up to the
wall he cups his hands and peers into the ice. Standing back he
strokes his
chin thoughtfully and he begins to chant. He passes his outspread
fingers
before his eyes and peers again at the titanic titans ((OOC: Couldn't
resist....casting detect magic))
"man oh man, will you look at that, what we
do now" Glant
then just
continues to stare at the titan's in awe.
Yahn Shawmen
simply stares wide eyed in amazement
Siobhan
turns to Talanos with a start. "Hey, Talanos," the blonde
says, "about that chalice and the water. Maybe they're
the ones who need it," Siobhan says, gesturing at the encased
Titans. The blonde fills the chalice, then looks around at the
Titans with mischief in her eyes. "Shall we water them to
see if they grow?"
Yahn extends
his arm, "Stay your hand, how are we to know if these
Titans are friends or foe?"
As Lester touches the wall he realizes
it is solid stone, not cold like ice, more like crystal.
Seeing the titans surrounding them, Talanos
gives a sudden shudder. Whispering
harshly he says, "Now that's creepy! To think that they were
watching us the entire
time we were here makes the hair stand on end." Noticing
that some are wanting to disturb the titans, Talanos' eyes widen.
Again whispering, he pleads, "Leave them to their sleep.
We might need to waken them later, but let's leave the awakening
till then." Pointing upwards he adds, "Let's worry
more about what might be awake already and is waiting beyond that
opening!"
Horst
"Wow, they look real from here. I wonder how they got there,
and for
that matter if they could still be alive in there."
Horst walks over to the walls and touches them to see if they
are cold
(ice??), "Perhaps we should conduct a careful
search of the area for clues as to the origin of this place and
its
use...." He then turns and starts slowly examining the
room...
Horst
will examine around the chalice and then proceed a little further
back into the cave system.
He will make use of one of his 'continual light stones' to illuminate
his way. He won't travel too far from
assistance (just in case). Anything of interest???
In the middle of the room you can make
out a small pool with a column stalagmite in it's center extending
upwards to the ceiling some 20' over your head. Water appears
to be running down this column feeding the pool. At the base
you also see a large metal chalice setting at the edge of the
pool. On the far wall you see steps cut into the wall that lead
up through a hole in the ceiling.
As Glant begins to cast his spell Horst
quickly steps forward and intervenes, "Save your strength
for now my friend. Thor will provide us with the illumination
that we require." With that he reaches to a small pouch attached
to his belt. Opening it reveals a bright light from within. Slowly
he draws forth a glowing stone that......illuminates the cavern.
Looking around he states "I have several of these stones.
Their light will not fail us in the way a torch might, and neither
will it radiate heat to reveal our position should we need to
be hidden from sight."
Placing the stone he is holding on a nearby ledge,
to provide illumination for all he turns back to the raft to retrieve
the remainder of his equipment and clothe himself once more in
his armour.
Marta stares
at the Titans, a hint of fear on her face. "I agree, we should
just leave the Titans alone. I learned my lesson when I messed
with that book
of magic, don't play with something you don't have to... If everyone
has
reassembled themselves why don't we try and see where these stairs
go? Odin's
eyes await our arrival."
"Let us proceed up the stairs." says Yahn,
"Perhaps the answer to these
Titans lies ahead. We can always come back. I don't think their
going
anywhere."
Cronar speaks up at the questions presented
by Yahn, "A flagon full is needed, brave shalt the heart
lie full upon the stone of everlasting light and from hence will
fly thine eyes of ye Lord and Master, King of the Gods!"
Cronar pauses, "I have that memorized like Marta here."
Cronar leans down to address Yahn[Being 7 feet tall you understand],
"in the struggle between light and darkness stand Odin and
his legions, those Ravens represent his strength and vision, without
them he is blind and we know who threatens him, the dark one,
Loki.
The group decides to ascend the stairs,
Horst has a light and stands near the front. Cronar says he will
take the rear with Marta in front of him. Yahn, Glant, Lester,
Talanos and Siobhan fit somewhere in that line. Anyone volunteer
to lead? Give me some feed back on the marching order.
As you climb the light throws long
shadows to the back of the party, Cronar and Marta are humbly
aware of the following darkness. In the front of the group you
come up into a small chamber that allows for only one exit and
a continuation of the stairs upwards. The door is old stone and
appears to hang askew possibly blocking the passage. -so stairs
up or mess with door.
Ur-Lord
;;;;;-Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya.
You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Glant
looking around "what say we take a moment to check out what
is
behind the door, it might hold something important that may help
us."
Before ascending the stairs, Talanos
looks to Lester and asks, "Would you care to
take the lead? I'll take it if you don't want to, and I'll take
the second position if you
do. I'll follow closely behind, ready to cover you should we run
into something up
these stairs." Once they go up the stairs and Glant suggests
checking beyond the door before
continuing upwards, Talanos nods and moves over toward the door,
one of his two
short swords drawn, the other loosened in its scabbard.
Siobhan
joins in wherever is best, sword in hand, ready for action.
Yahn also
falls in line as the party heads up the stairs.
Lester
smiles somewhat nervously..."Well I don't know about being
at the very
front. I fear I would be little more than a tasty morsel were
we to run into
anything. I'd be happy to come forward and examine anything you
feel is
suspicous or out of place but I do not think that my place is
at the front of
the line."
The heavy door makes a loud noise as
you open it. Shining the light inside you see a corridor
that branches off in both directions.
Cobwebs and dusty floor are testament to the disuse of the passage.
"Let's be thorough," Siobhan
says. "Let's check this part out."
Glant
comments "i agree, you never know, we might find something
helpful."
In response to Lester, Talanos
says, "That's fine too. I'll take the lead and you can
follow me, letting me know if there is something that I should
be looking out for or
stuff like that." Upon opening the door, Talanos looks down
the dusty hallway and says, "I agree with both Siobhan and
Glant. We should check these hallways out, but I say we do it
to
ensure that nothing lies behind us, should we find need of a hasty
retreat."
Glant
comments to the group "i suggest we try both passages, but
that we
check the left one first."
Talanos
gives a small nod and then heads down the left passageway, proceeding
slowly. He will take a couple of steps and then pause, letting
his eyes do the take
some of the legwork out of searching. He will also check the floor
as he moves for
any sign that someone might have passed this way before.
Horst
tucks in behind Talanos...glancing back towards Cronar he quietly
suggests "Perhaps someone towards the rear should keep an
eye on the
other passages just in case we are approached from behind??!!"
After 30 feet you come to a T intersection.
Which way? Left or Right?
Horst
looks around the party..." Let us proceed left again and
see if we
rejoin our original tunnel. If we can eliminate the possibility
of a
loop then it will reduce the wandering around that goes on...."
Cronar says he will stand in the doorway
of the stairwell and wait.
As you turn left and walk another 30'
you encounter a 5' wide side passage that leads off to the right
at about 45 degrees. Continue straight or take the passage to
the right?
Horst
looks down the side passage with the aid of the Light Stone to
see
how far it goes...if it doesn't go too far he will have a look
down it
otherwise we will continue down the main passage...
Siobhan
nods her assent...
Glant
comments "i suggest we continue left again, so we can easily
retrace our path if necessary." Glant speaks up "i vote
we go straight"
Talanos
nods and continues straight down the corridor, taking a moment
to look
up the side passage before passing it by.
Horst looks into the 5' passage and
can just see that it leads into an open chamber.
The main passage seems to curve around
this chamber to the right by 90 degrees.
"hhmmm, maybe we should check out this chamber
first before continuing
straight." comments Glant.
This room appears rectangular 20' x
30'. It appears to be no other exit. Rubble is strewn about the
room, mostly broken bits of masonry. Both walls to either side
appear wet as if a spring or water is flowing from somewhere.
Not one for talking much Yahn
nodes his head in agreement.
Marta will
take the third wall and search for any sign of a secret door.
"I'll check out
this wall guys, but I don't know what good it will do. I'm not
very skilled in such
things."
Yahn not
having any interest in the room looks in at the others wile he
leans up against the door frame.
Siobhan looks
at the inside of the room, stepping inside for a moment. Seeing
nothing of interest, she backs out again, ready for the next room...
Talanos looks
back toward Lester and says in harsh whisper, "What do you
think?
Could there be any doors hidden from view in here? You want to
check around over
on that side," indicating one side of the room, "while
I take this side."
Talanos will then start checking the wall out, visually at first,
but if anything looks
out of place, he will call Lesters' attention to it before checking
it out physically.
Glant will
stand just a little ways inside the room, and keep a watch on
the middle of the room, especially the rubble to make sure nothing
emerges while his friends are searching.
Horst looks
around the room, looking in particular for the source of the
water. Should there be nothing of interest he suggests "We
should
probably continue on down the main passage, unless anyone else
has
discovered anything???"
Lester begins to examine the
wall carefully. As he looks he says, "We should
not waste too much time checking every wall we encounter. The
longer we spend
dallying the more the chance that someone should happen upon us
or discover us
by some other means." When he is done examining the wall
he makes a
percursory examination of the floor and the rubble that lies upon
it.
Horst and
Lester are checking the right wall and Talanos is on the
left with Marta on the far wall. Glant stands a couple of feet
inside the room and Yahn and Siobhan stand just outside in the
main passage. As Talanos and Horst inspect the wetness covering
the walls they both notice a splotch of slime, then suddenly it
snakes out from the wall an oozing gray slime slapping Horst a
good blow but the agile Talanos manages to duck the nastiness.
Lester manages to avoid the ugliness as he being a smaller target,
got lucky. Horst take 16 pts. And his armor where the slime strikes
appears to melt under the assault. It puddles around Horst preparing
for another strike as does the other one on Talanos.
Siobhan, lacking any weapons
or magic that would do any good against the
amorphous mass, backs further away from the room, and calls on
everyone else to
get out, too...
seeing his new companions being attacked Glant
shouts "those things are
eating right through metal, get out of here and i will see if
i can
help."
Glant then retrieves a small leather loop from his pouch at his
waist,
and begins moving his hands and mumbling the incantations of a
spell.
DM:levitation spell on slime attacking Horst and Lester, trying
to raise
it to just below the ceiling, high enough for his friends to escape
yet
not high enough to be able to touch the ceiling.
"Yargh...." yells Horst
leaping backwards away from the gray ooze ands
once out of reach of the creature proceeds to deposit the contents
of
his water skin all over his chain mail. [OOC So much for keeping
it
dry!] Once out of the way of the others Horst quickly attends
to his wounds,
[OOC: Cast 1 or 2 CLW Spells as appropriate to heal the damage
done by
the ooze].
Marta jumps back away from the
slime, "Eeeek!" Standing beside Glant as he
begins his incantations, she begins her own. Her fingers dance
through the
air as arcane words are seemingly sung. Three little daggers shoot
from her
fingertips towards the gray slime. Marta
will fall back next round and attempt to completely get out of
the room. [OOC: magic missile]
Lester nimbly backtracks as
the gray slime lunges out. For a moment he curls
his fingers and looks as though he might begin to incant something
but
suddenly he remembers that, although he had seen that spell cast,
he had never
bothered to learn it. Nimbly he ducks underneath someone's legs
and out of
the room.
Yahn Shawman launches one of
his spears into the slime making sure that
everyone is clear so as not to his any allies. He observes what
happens
to the spear.
Hearing how the 'slime' eats through metal, Talanos
begins backing away, toward
the entrance. As he moves, he draws his dirk while keeping an
eye on the
'slime'. Taking a step backward, he asks, "If this stuff
eats metal, then we better
hope that Marta, Lester, or one of you new guys knows some magic
that will be
effective." Once he finishes, he hurls his dirk at the slime
that had attacked him
then he reaches for his bow and an arrow. (OOC: If it appears
that Yahns' spear and Talanos' dirk did any damage to the slime,
then Talanos will start firing arrows into the mass, but only
if the spear and dirk attack 'appeared' effective. Otherwise,
Talanos will protect the spellcasters
while they continue their barrage on the critter. Mike)
[2]The ooze strikes for Horst once
more before he moves out of range and misses him. The ooze then
begins to hover in mid air. Lester heads for the exit
and Marta(who was on the far wall) shoots magical bolts
of energy into one of the gray oozes. The other ooze who attacked
Lester starts towards Marta. Siobhan stays
in the passage watching with abject horror. Yahn rushes
into the room brandishing a spear. Glant mumbles some arcane
words. Talanos hurls his dirk at the ooze and sees the
blade imbed itself into the mass, the wood shaft then falls to
the floor metal blade obviously sucked into the creature.[3] Horst
mumbles some words(7pts.back). Marta attempts to flee to
the far passage skirting the ooze as much as possible. Glant
seems to maintain his concentration. Yahn launches his
spear at the hovering ooze striking it, spear penetrating the
bubbly surface(1pt of damage). Talanos prepares his bow.
Horst continues his self administrations(2 pts.).[4] Glant
is still concentrating on the floating ooze. Lester and
Siobhan huddle with each other taking some comfort in their
closeness. Yahn watches as the spear bobs around still
embedded in the ooze. Talanos draws and fires twice striking
the ooze(5 pts inflicted). Marta safely exits the room
nearly colliding with Lester and Siobhan.
Glant will
look to make sure his friends are out of the way of the blob,
before breaking his concentration. once his concentration is broken
he will remain where he is and taking his longbow, will begin
firing arrows at the closest ooze, slowly retreating if any get
to close or until the oozes are both dead.
Following Glants lead, Talanos
begins firing arrows at the other glob of ooze,
retreating as it get closer. He will try to draw its attention
from Lester, Siobhan and
Marta if it tries to go after them.
Yahn seeing
that his spear had some effect launches his remaining
spears into the same ooze.
5.
Having recovered some of his composure, Horst
raises his mace and begins
and incantation. The mace begins to glow a golden color and before
your eyes a second glowing mace appears floating in the air ahead
of
him. [OOC: Cast Spiritual Hammer]
6 & 7.
Horst
raises his mace above his head and then brings it down in an
vicious attack. The magical mace matches his movements and is
brought
down in an attack on the Ooze on the floor.
Lester,
feeling somewhat helpless turns to Siobhan "Do you have a
torch?"
If Siobhan does, Lester will take it and light it and thrust it
into the
slime to see if it does anything. If not he will just concentrate
on not
getting slimed.
Glant has a light spell cast back in
the "Titan room" and Horst is carrying a coin with a
light spell cast upon it. No one has a torch or the ingredients
for one. You find the ooze is very slow moving and an easy target.
Yahn uses three spears in the killing retrieving all three unless
they were tipped with metal in which case the metal is gone. Talanos
expends four arrows, losing all four and Glant uses eleven arrows
losing all. Horst smacks 'em around with his hammer doing little
damage apparently. With the two ooze creatures dead the party
is free to move about.
"man I don't wish to meet any more of those,
not too strong but hard to
kill. Did anyone discover anything before the attack or should
we now
leave this room?" Glant
proceeds to put away his bow since it is now
useless, until he gets more arrows.
Yahn sighs,
"So much for my spears." He retrieves what is left of
them
knowing that they will at the very least be good for firewood.
He looks
to the others, "It seems our task here is done. I suggest
we move on.
Is anyone seriously injured?"
Holding up a hand, Talanos
quietly says, "Wait a moment. Let me finish checking
these walls for any hidden doorways." He then turns back
to the wall and finishes
his visual check. Seeing Yahns' spears shafts he asks, "You
don't happen to have a flask of oil, do you? If so, we can fashion
some workable torches using some oil, your spear shafts
and some cloth."
As Talanos searches the room he uncovers
a secret door.
Talanos
looks back at the others as he quietly says, "Ahhhhh. Here's
something. It
appears to be a hidden, or secret, door here." He spends
a few moments looking it
over before turning to Lester, asking the gnome, "I don't
know why I continue to look
these things over. If it is trapped or something, I have as much
chance spotting it as
Gillian there has of marrying a Giant!" Smiling
at the leprechaun to let him know that
he meant it as a joke and not anything personal, he then turns
back to Lester, "Why
don't you take a looksee at it? I have more faith in your ability
to notice something
amiss."
Gillian was left with the horses
way back at the west end of the lake. I
doubt he takes exception to what you say about him now.
"More than happy too. More than happy indeed"
replied Lester
as he approached
the door. Humming happily to himself he begins to meticulously
examine the
door and its' fixtures.
"After the last little surprise I think I will
stand well back for the
moment. This may help though..." says Horst
as he tosses the 'Continual
Light Pebble' (CLP) to Lester. Horst then moves to a safe distance
(near the door) from where he can see what is happening.....
[OOC: Still 7 HPs down but will wait to
heal until we stop to rest]
Lester finds the secret door is not
trapped, at least he thinks so. As he swings the door open you
see a small room 5'x5' with several metal urns(3) about one foot
tall each.
Upon opening the door Lester
takes a moment to take in the scene. "Very
curious" he says as he slowly approaches the closest urn.
Cautiously he peers
into it ready to jump back at a moments notice. If he cannot see
anything, he
will take the Light stone and drop it into the urn.
You see piles of coins of various amounts.
Yahn steps
closer to peer into the room at the urns. He is looking for
anything of use [OOC: Can he tell what they are made of? So they
appear
sealed? Are there any visible inscriptions, etc.?]
The are made of some kind of
metal with no inscriptions.
Marta will visually
inspect the 3 different urns, are they empty?
All three hold many coins. Mostly
silver coinage.
[Marta]
Might as well search the rest of the room while we are here.
Marta searches and finds nothing
else in the small room except for dust
empty walls.
Glant comments
to the group "is it just me or do any of the rest of you,
find it unusual that all these coins would be located in all this
destruction in this room I just get the feeling we are missing
something
here, though I am not sure what,.....just a sec I am curious about
something" Glant then begins chanting the words to a spell
ooc:casting detect magic
You get no sense of magic.
Lester looks
slightly disappointed to see that the Urn only holds coins.
Sighing slightly he moves from Urn to Urn looking in all. "These
won't do us
much good I'm afraid. And will only slow us down. If we want we
can retrieve
them on the way back."
Currently, Gillian a NPC character
is or was guarding the horses by the lake shore west side. Cronar
a NPC is at the doorway near the stairs that brought you to this
level. Talanos, Lester, Glant, Yahn and Marta are all in the small
room gazing down at the riches at your feet. You see lots of silver
coins in those three metal urns. I believe that Siobhan is at
the entrance to the larger room and Horst is somewhere in between.
;;;I would like to thank the newcomers
for their input into the game. As you might have guessed you
have stumbled into a dungeon crawl. Currently I am running a d4+2
for the level monsters, treasure and miscellaneous stuff you could
run into. This stuff could kill so I'd advise caution, but play
in character.;;;
Talanos
steps back when Glant begins casting his spell, not knowing what
it is that
he is casting. When he is finished, Talanos moves into the small
secret room and
checks the four walls, as well as the ceiling and floor for any
more hidden portals.
Once he is done with that, he looks at the urns full of coins
and says, "I agree. Let's
leave them here, or possibly in the main tunnel, and collect them
once we leave the
caverns. It seems to me that they'd make too much noise if we
were to carry them."
He steps back when Glant begins casting his spell, not knowing
what it is that he is
casting.
Glant comments
to the rest "I just cast a detect magic spell, but found
nothing. Might I suggest if no more secret panels are present,
that we
rest up here for the night, with some guards on the one and only
entrance, since we have already cleared this room, that is if
anyone
else needs to rest up for now, if not we can go on."
"I believe that they are small enough to take will us. If
we stuff
them with cloth then the coins won't move and they won't make
any noise"
"I agree with Lester." says Yahn,
"They are too big and we don't need
anything slowing us down on our mission."
Siobhan
says, "They don't look like they're going anywhere. I'd hate
to
have to dodge any more streams of metal-eating monster phlegm
with an urn full
of coins on my back. We'll take them later."
Marta doesn't
want to get weighed down, if we decide to stay Marta will take
first shift.
The party decides to rest a bit. As
the party disassembles into those trying to sleep and those still
on watch. After several hours Yahn hears the sounds of heavy
armored footsteps coming down the passage.
,
Yahn speaks
to Talanos, "Rouse the others while I look around the
corner." Yahn moves as quietly as he can and peers out the
door....
Once roused from his sleep Horst
moves quickly and quietly to don
armour..."What is it ????" he whispers, struggling to
put on his chain
without making too much noise....
Sensing that there must be danger nearby, since he
was awakened, Glant
quietly draws his sword and looks questioningly
at Yahn and Talanos.
Talanos
moves over to each of the party members and gently shakes thier
shoulder
until they wake. In response to their questioning looks and quietly
asked questions
he silently holds a finger in front of his lips and nods his head
toward the
passageway, letting them hear the disturbance rather than try
to explain what is
going on.
Once up Horst
moves quickly and quietly to position himself to the side
of the entrance, mace in hand and ready to respond to any threat
that
presents itself.
The loud footsteps suddenly stop for
a moment. Then you see a dim light fill the passage and Cronar
steps forth. "Damn you all for leaving me back there!"
He playfully cuffs Talanos on the shoulder with the back of his
hand. "Don't do that again or I'll have to hurt you."
Yahn breathes
a sigh of relief and moves to go back to sleep (or was he
on guard?).
Glant relaxes
the hold on his weapon and resheathes his sword, at
discovering an ally has arrived.
Looking at the huge human warrior, Talanos
asks, "Me?!?!? You nearly stopped my
heart, tromping up through the tunnel like that after the fight
we had here a while ago.
But, I should've known it was you by the way the stones on the
floor were jumping
with each of your steps!"
Smiling, he says, "We decided to camp here for the night,
since the day is getting
on. Plus, those oozes did hurt a couple of us, but not too badly,
I think. I just hope
that Gillian will be all right for the night, alone as he is.
What do you think?"
Cronar
grunts and smiles, "I must get some sleep, standing alone
in this dark place can make one very tired." He slumps in
a corner avoiding the gooey mess going into a deep sleep.
After several uneventful hours pass
the guard shift changes. As everyone catches up with their sleep
you prepare to embark once again.
after rising from his sleep, Glant comments "that
feels better, shall we
now leave this disastrous room and see what else we can discover?"
Horst
"Indeed after the diversion of this
side room, I suggest that we proceed
onwards....but first perhaps we had better check with Gillian
on whether
or not he's happy to stay outside with the horses...."
Marta
wants to do some exploring today, she would like to know which
direction should we head in.
Taking the lead once again, Talanos
heads back to the main hallway the party was in
before reaching the narrower tunnel. Looking in both directions,
he then heads down
the hallway, going in the direction that the party was moving
in before taking the
detour to the ooze-room
Horst hoists
the light stone up so that people can see clearly and steps
into line behind Talanos..."lets see what's next eh??"
.. he says
grinning in enthusiasm.
Cronar brings
up the rear echoing caution, "Be wary, the walls have ears."
As the party turns right along the
passage it turns smoothly 90 degrees to the right then another
45 degrees for about 30 feet. As you proceed a slight hiss is
heard and a spear shoots out of the near wall whizzing through
the air striking the one most likely to have sprung the trap,
Talanos!
He staggers backwards into Horst a
nasty looking shaft protruding from his right foot, blood gushing
out onto the cold stony ground.[4pts.]
"Steady..." says Horst
easily catching Talanos before he hits the
ground. Horst then maneuvers Talanos back away from the trapped
area
before any more are triggered. Easing Talanos to the ground he
takes a
tentative look at his wound, "Perhaps we should proceed with
a little
more care from now on if there are regular traps around."
He looks up at
Lester "Your department more than mine, I think..."
Looking back at Talanos with sympathy Horst says " I'm afraid
this is
likely to..." and pulls the shaft from his foot in one swift
movement,
"... Hurt!". Moving quickly Horst places his hand over
the would and
begins to quietly chant... [OOC: CLW] ... after a few moments
the blood
flow begins to slow and the wound begins to heal over....
Lester nods
and moves forward cautiously checking the area where Talanos
appeared to trigger the traps. "I suppose that perhaps I
should lead the way
after all. It appears that the old hag has quite a few surprises
set up for
unwelcome guests. " After Talanos is ready to move on Lester
will take the point, moving very
cautiously and continuously checking for pressure plates, trip
wires, and concealed pits.
Talanos
leaps back when the shaft buries itself in his foot. Tears of
pain flood down
his cheek as his blood flows from the wound. In exquisite pain,
he lays back and
allows Horst to examine the wound. When the shaft is removed from
the wound with
a jerk, Talanos lets out a yelp before he is able to control it,
but he gives the cleric a
dangerous look. When Horst casts the healing spell on the wound
however, the lines
on his face soften when he realizes that it was necessary. When
the healing is
finished, and the last of the pain disappears, Talanos gently
eases weight onto the
foot. Finding little to no pain, he looks to the cleric and says,
"I thank you and your
God, Horst, for the healing you have given me. But, you'll understand
that I hope that
it is the last time that it is required!" Turning toward
Lester, Talanos watches as the gnome carefully goes through the
area he was walking through when he sprung the trap. He quietly
says, "Careful there, Lester. I don't think you have as
much blood to lose as I do." After a moment of
thought he adds, "As for that old hag, don't you worry. She'll
be paying for every drop
of spilled blood we suffer, in full."
Lester
easily finds the trap that zapped Talanos. He notices
that it was loaded for three spears at one time but now is empty
and quite harmless. As you slowly continue onward down the passage
you see a side passage on your left.
"If you don't mind" Yahn
says as he extends his hand toward the spear, "I might be
able to use that" When/If it is handed to him he inspects
it to see if it is still usable. He also examines the tip looking
for anything that might be poison.
"Well all, shall we sidetrack again and check
this out, and maybe find
some more grey oozes to fight "Glant
chuckles at this last "sorry
couldn't be helped, so shall we look and see what lies left?"
"Well we had better check it out or we might
find our path out blocked
by an unexpected problem..." Horst
looks to Lester agains, "Left again??
When your ready...."
"Oh I don't care which way we go? I am enjoying
this little jaunt". Lester's
sparkling eyes and broad grin reveal this to be true. "left
then? Is that the
consenus? Okay then, left it is!"
As Lester
starts down the passageway carefully he continues to talk "You
know
my Uncle Burrincelciox used to say "If you don't stop and
occasionally allow
yourself to stray from your main course of action you will miss
most of the
interesting things in this world"" The thing is Uncle
Burrincelciox's
strayings usually led him to the home of women who were not Aunt
Marapurmaia." Lester pauses and snickers slightly, "Ah
Uncle Burrincelciox
had some great stories to tell about his straying..." Lester
looks around at
Marta and Siobhan, "But perhaps those tales are better left
for bawdier
times." Lester continues carefully down the hall searching
for traps while humming
very softly to himself under his breath.
Yahn
inspects the spear which appears undamaged and luckily for Talanos
had no poison on it.
The turn left quickly ends in a door
that is closed. The door is open and you enter finding an empty
room devoid of any value. A quick search for secret doors reveals
nothing. Assuming you carry on, the passage opens into a large
room 40'x60' in size. You see this room is more of a circular
cave carved out of natural stone. Three exits from this room
can be seen, one on this same wall, one on the left and one on
the right. The exit on the same wall you entered has a door while
the other two are openings into other passages. This large space
is also empty.
Taking in the large room Lester
says, "Personally I think that a door is more
likely to lead us towards...something. Whether we want to meet
that something
is entirely a different matter.
MARTA
LOOKS AROUND AND TRIES TO SEE IF THERE
IS ANY LIGHT COMING FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT EXITS?? OR IS THERE
ANY SIGN OF RECENT USE.
Glant suggests
to the group "I suggest we examine the exits without doors
first since they are most likely to be empty and we verify that
nothing will be at our backs when we go to check the exit with
the door."
Talanos
nods at Glants' suggestion. He then moves over to the doorway
to the left
and stands there quietly, listening for any telltale noises coming
from that doorway.
Talanos hear no sounds except for the
others searching the room behind you. The door appears locked,
but from your side. No traps are discernible.
"Hmmm interesting, since the lock is on our
side do you suppose
something is being kept in? rather than trying to keep us out.
i must
admit even considering this my curiosity is about to get the best
of
me. shall we open it?" Glant
then awaits the others opinions.
"That would be my guess as well." said
Lester
as he looked curiously at the
door. "((OOC does the door or lock appear to be unusually
heavy or
reinforced?)). "I must say I am rather curious as well. It
reminds me of
that temple with the mysterious creature locked inside back in
Briss(?)"
Getting down on his hands and knees Lester tries to listen at
the crack at the
bottom of the door. If there is no crack he will cup his hands
and listen at
the door.
The door appears rather old and worn,
through several cracks you can feel a slight breeze blowing on
your face. You get just a hint of a smell but you can't quite
place it.
Straightening up Lester
looked up at those gathered around an grinned broadly,
"Well what do you think? I'd like to know what's in there.
You'd think that
anything too nasty would have been able to break this door down
easily."
Lester cracks his knuckles and waits for a response.
Cronar smiles and nods at Lester, "I'm
for moving on."
Marta decides
to step back quite a ways from the door not wanting to be
surprised by anything.
"Well if something is in there and wants out
I'm sure it would be here
right now. Shall we proceed?" asks Yahn.
Nodding to all of his companions, Talanos
says, "Let's do it, then. We're getting
nowhere standing here." He then moves to the door and places
a free hand on the
doorknob while holding a short sword in the other.
Talanos easily flips the lock and slides
the door open with a soft touch, however the rusty hinges prove
noisy and the sound echoes throughout the room making Cronar jump
and exclaim, "Thor's Thunder!" As the door slowly opens
you see another passage continue off into the darkness with the
hint of another door down the way on the left.
"Shall we explore this other door before continuing
down the passage?"
Glant
suggests to the group.
Horst
"While we are here we may as well
check it out. Especially if the
draft Lester felt is an indication of another entrance/exit."
As the party moves towards this new
opening they find that in reality it is the continuation of the
passage as the main section appears to dead end about ten more
feet down. This passage to the left veers about 45 degrees. Currently
you are in a 10' wide tunnel with a 8' ceiling. To your left
after another 30 feet you see another door. This door is similar
to the previous one with one exception, it is hanging off it's
hinges and you see another passage that seems to parallel the
one your in.
Siobhan
speaks up. "A door, broken from its hinges? What broke it?"
Yahn mumbles
under his breath, "I don't like this it seem too simple."
Then a little louder, "Maybe we should check to traps."
Talanos
gives a visible start, nearly jumping out of his skin. Looking
at the others, he
says, "Sure, go ahead and check for traps! By all means!
As far as I remember, this
wasn't a race to see how fast we could all die!"
"Once the checking is done, I suggest going
the down the tunnel without
the door first, since we can assume whatever might be waiting
is most
likely gone down the tunnel with the busted door, and we can return
and
check it later."
The party continues on straight, avoiding
the parallel passageway. After 40 feet the passage comes to a
"T" intersection and you see that to your left the other
parallel passage also joins this new off shoot.
Horst scratches
his head .... "errr Right I think ".... He looks at
the others to see if there are any comments or helpful suggestions....
"Navigation isn't exactly my strong point." he says
with an almost embarrassed shrug of the shoulders....
Talanos
looks at the different passageways before saying, "Nor is
it mine, as long as
we stay indoors or underground! But, right is as good a direction
as any, so let's go
that way for now."
The group decides this is an excellent
idea and veers to the right. As you start off in that direction
you see another door to your right and from in front of you two
large (8 foot tall)horned furry creatures swinging battle axes
attack the party. Horst and Talanos are first to greet them and
both are surprised. Both hit their targets. Horst taking 9pts
and Talanos gets 8.
Since Siobhan
is near the back, and the battle is in close quarters, about
all the blonde warrior can do is shout words of encouragement
at Horst and
Talanos, and curses and imprecations at the enemy. Which she does...
Glant is
close to do hand to hand combat he will draw both his short
and long swords and wade into the fray,
"Oh goodie." remarks Yahn
rather blandly. "Well here we go" he says
as he drives both fists into the nearest beast.
Marta will
cast try to get a shot clear if the two in front are not blocking
her view, she will cast magic missile on the lead furball.
Both his blades flashing in an intricate design,
Talanos
stands his ground and returns
his opponents attack. He uses one blade in defense, trying to
deflect the horned
beasts axe, and the other as his primary attack weapon, reaching
in, trying to slice
the beast open with its razor-sharp blade.
"Argghh, not again...." Horst
lurches backwards away from his attacker
before raising his shield and responding with an overhand blow
with his
mace...
Horst
replies with some bad medicine of his own bashing the foul beast
with a crushing blow from his Mace(6pts). Glant steps into
the fray timing a blow from his long sword(14pts.) The Horned
fiend decides Glant is the more formidable and launches it's attack
horns first followed by a battle axe(15pts.) the second attack
is fumbled and Glant and Horst get extra attacks Horst misses
badly but Glant lands a horrific blow(9pts.) that opens a gapping
wound in the chest of the foul beast sending blood and gore splashing
to the floor the beast roaring in pain and anger.
Meanwhile Talanos stands toe
to toe with the other monster trading blows(16pts) the beast responds
with 12pts back on Talanos. Yahn rushes in applying both fists
to the furry beast(19pts)
The beasts are taking a pounding but
seem determined to win the day. The beast attacks this new opponent
with the fists of iron doing 24pts back on Yahn!
Changing targets once again the foul
smelling brute rams Horst then follows with a graceful arc swing
of it's battle axe(13pts). Luckily the axe swings harmlessly through
the air missing the cleric by a close margin. The unfortunate
Talanos is the target of the other bull-thing but the God's are
smiling upon him as both attacks sail wide of their mark. As Horst
and Glant rebound from this assault raining blows upon the beast
with a vengeance. Nearly cleaved it backs away apparently having
had its' fill of this bad medicine. Talanos and Yahn nearly knock
their opponent to the ground and seeing it's comrade back away
does the same.
"I think since they started this, we should
finish it for them, and I do
not wish to have these two at my back later with vengeance in
mind, I
vote we finish them off." Glant
then awaits the others opinions swords
at the ready.
If they try to retreat Yahn
will let them go. However if they turn and
fight as many wounded animals do he will unwillingly finish them
off
(his step-father IS a Paladin and of course taught him the value
of life).
When the battle is over Yahn turns to Talanos and extends his
arm,
"Well met friend. It brings me joy to battle with a man of
skill."
Siobhan
gives encouragement and moral support from the back...
Talanos
advances on the bull-thing with his two swords drawn and held
ready.
Breathing heavily from the exertion, he prepares to defend himself
should the beast
renew its attack, but he does not swing first.
"Since no one else wishes to pursue these creatures,
then I guess we
might as well let them go" Glant
then sighs loudly, hoping to himself
that they don't regret this decision later.
As the horned creatures flee down the
corridor and out of sight it suddenly becomes quiet once again.
"I vote try this door, and then maybe find a
place to hold up and heal
for a bit, some of us took some nasty hits." Glant
then awaits the
others.
"I agree," adds Talanos.
"We took some bad hits there." If everyone agrees, he'll
move to the door and listen at it to see if he can hear anything
from the other side of
it, and then steps away should anyone else decide they'd like
to do so as well. He
then moves to the hinged side and reaches across for the handle,
giving it a yank
when everyone else is in position.
"Mmm, I thinks a short rest would be in order
right now." Horst
then
moves to one size to allow Talanos access to the door.... Horst
will cast CLW on himself and others as appropriate once things
seem to have calmed down a little. He will also position himself
further back in the party order until he has full recovered from
his wounds....
You try the door and find it is not
locked. Upon opening you find a huge
chamber over 4000 sq ft with an unusually low ceiling(7ft). You
find a
small area that may have been the home for the horned creatures.
You see a
neat pile of bones, several chests and barrels. 1000 copper pcs
and 750
electrum. You also find a half eaten rump of some poor creature
and a barrel
of putrid water. No other exits from this room are readily apparent.
