OWLFLIGHT
by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon

The latest book in the Valdemar series, OWLFLIGHT is as usual very well written
and very enjoyable. It begins after Storm Breaking and deals with the aftermath of the mage
storms. Set on the border of Valdemar and the Pelagirs, it tells the story of Darian, who was
unwillingly apprenticed to his town's mage after his parents failed to return from the forest.
After an attack on his village, Darian flees into the forest where he is found by a group of
Tayledras who have been sent out to begin once again cleansing the lands that the storms had
effected. The story details Darian's adventures and his acceptance by the Tayledras as they
deal with trying to free his village and its people.

Additionally, OWLFLIGHT begins answering many of the questions left after The Mage Storms
series as far as the continuing alliance with the Tayledras, Kalada'in, and Shina'in and
how the mage storms affected the land and underlying web of magic that was shattered at the
end of Storm Breaking. A single novel, OWLFLIGHT is not listed as the start of a new series,
unfortunately, and can be read as a stand alone story. However, without some background and
knowledge of the world Mercedes Lackey has created and developed over the course of the last
18 books, it will probably be quite confusing.

Overall, I considered it to be an excellent book - no suprise considering who wrote it.
If by any chance you have never read any of The Valdemar Series check my favorite books page
(It should be posted by next weekend.) for a complete listing.
They are extraordinary stories and well worth the time and money.
(They are the only extended series of books that I have purchased in hardback versions.)
