My Little Pony

Windows Goodies

I'm still working on new Windows Goodies... I'd like to make a pair of animated cursors, for example.  Maybe I'd even do a complete theme, but possibly not.  Much as I like My Little Ponies, I think they're just too... pastel... to put nothing but ponies on my computer screen.

Here I have two sets of icons and one set of Windows '95 startup and shutdown screens.  Enjoy!  But, kindly don't redistribute these files elsewhere on the Web -- I need all the traffic I can get! :-)

Icons:   There are two versions of each icon set.  One is a zipped-up icon library.  The other is just a bunch of zipped-up icons. There are also .gif or .jpg versions of the icons here on my page.  This accomplishes two things: one, you can see what the icons will look like before you download the libraries.  Two, you can just grab the .gif's and make them into icons yourself if you don't use a PC.

The icons are 256-color icons, which means they will only display properly on a system which displays more than 256 colors -- ie, High Color or True Color.  I haven't tried them on a 256 color system, so I don't know what they look like -- pretty awful, I'd imagine.  Each icon contains both 32x32 and 48x48 pixel images.

Cartoon Pony Icons:  These icons were made from images downloaded from  Ivy's Free Images Page.

Photo Pony Icons: These icons were made from images taken from a random ebay auction.  I zoomed in on them immediately because there were some nice ponies in the lot, photographed attractively.  They were also very small and very sharp, which is very important for making good photo icons.

Windows Startup/Shutdown screens:  Admit it, those generic clouds get pretty boring.  This is a set of three screens to replace the "Starting Windows '95,"  "Please Wait...," and "It is now safe to shut down your computer" screens that came with Windows '95  I assume it works the same way with Windows '98, but I haven't tried it.  Installation instructions are included in the .zip file -- it looks tricky at first, but it's really not.  Just be sure you keep backups of the old startup screens, in case you want the clouds back!

The animated startup screen was made with the XrXLogo utility, available as shareware at http://www.cadvision.com/xrx/, where you can also find more information about installing logos.
