In the latest step towards an integrated transport system in Amber,
after a week of feverish activity, Postmaster's Offices have been opened
in Dianadale and Salic Hills. The old tumbledown buildings that have
been in disuse for some years have been replaced by solid stone
structures that double as a transport termini and pele towers. They are
similar to the ones built in Viallevale, and it is anticipated the Amber
Light Railway will be extended to link the shires. Perhaps the Mayor and
Master of Ceremonies can use it to exchange pleasantries.
The banner of a white unicorn on green dexter rampant is raised atop the
tower to general cheering from the staff and customers below.
A large notice board has also been erected next to the new Post Office,
where denizens of the shire can send and collect mail or purchase
permits to travel the king's highway. The notice spells out in no
uncertain terms that the inland waterways of Amber fall under the
jurisdiction of the Postmasters and as such require permits for travel.
A list has been added to notice boards here and at tollhouses throughout
Amber naming and shaming merchants who have defied this edict, stamped
in red ink: 'Payment notices issued, foreclosure pending'.
