In response to the dramatic increase in unemployment in Amber City and its environs, the various ancient Guilds of Amber have established offices for the disbursement of food and other essentials. There are suggestions that the Strike Fund, established during the reign of King Random to compensate workers in the case of work stoppages, has been tapped to maintain households headed by workers affiliated with an approved Guild.

Rumors are that this fund was very heavily weighted to bonds and other securities which are unaffected by market fluctuations brought about by Suhey's recent declarations. Given its strong state, Strike Fund managers are diversifying into new assets.
