(Amber City) Minister of Industry and Commerce Zariya al'Bariman issued a statement today concerning the military escorts of merchant ships. "These are dangerous times. Merchants cannot cross the seas safely any longer. Their ships are attacked, and raided. Countless monies have been lost to many corporations due to these attacks.
"Lady Pearl of Koronande expressed to me a concern about the safety of the seas, especially since her ships have been among the hardest hit by these pirates. A military escort for them was arranged with the approval of the Amber navy. I did so as the Amber Minister of Industry and Commerce, working to facilitate trade in Amber. Doing so enables her ships to navigate safely from port to port. It is not a 'special privilege': any merchants who are interested in such an escort have yet to make their wishes known to I, or the navy. Any merchants may participate in this, provided they pay the fee, which is fifteen percent of the goods being protected.
Addendum to the news release in Acquitania: "Just because Lady Pearl is the first merchant to try this experiment does not mean that I am working with the Mecklenbergs, or they with me. I am sure that they hate us Cainites just as much as ever."
