In a surprise announcement, Lord Kayliss of Koronande has announced the opening of the Grand Sylvan canal connecting the republic to the western seaboard and the recently constructed port of Sylvana. The Senate had been dismissing this project as a hair-brained scheme that would never work, but the first barge has successfully negotiated the journey from the eastern town of Fylde to the sea. How well-travelled this canal will be remains to be seen, but with heavy tariffs imposed on traffic through the Horns of Hathor, there may be a few takers.

Lord Kayliss declared: "This is a triumph for diplomacy and engineering. No longer must we rely on our traders in the Gulf of Koros - the open sea is within our grasp! Our Royal Charter gives us protection and our harbor has all the facilities a modern merchant may wish for. We are open for business and taking bookings!"

Special care has been taken to blend the workings in with the natural surroundings, and the local elven population has taken a keen interest in proceedings. Admittedly this was largely due to the presence of the 'Koronande - Sylvan Tribes Intercommunal Friendly Society' which was busily staging outdoor festivals along the route. Lord Kayliss declined to participate in an impromptu performance of "Stardust", but publicly thanked the Society for their good work in forging closer links with the Sylvan community.

Senator Kratti says that the debate should occur after the state funeral of the assassinated Zolo Hahn. "I think Si Maelstrom did it."

Si sneered that Kratti probably did it herself."I think Kratti is pulling the old burning the Yggport manuever again. Do the dirty deed and blame the opponent. I wonder if she had SW training?"
