Oberon turns to Dunstree,"If I wanted your input I would have demanded it. This is not some Chaos style Parliament boy. And get used to individual fiat. I am the Rule. I am the Law. I am Amber."
He turns to the Gram,"have Dunstree's budget for the roads 4 blocks within his house rebated back to Rory. And put up a sign saying Dunstree's Havenish attitude caused them to lose their new roads."
"You might also let them know that Dunstree's attitude is why he is resigning as Lord Mayor and Sheriff, effective immediately. As my old abbott used to say, it's a heresy to try to save souls aimed straight for damnation. Better to go where I can be of use. I'll stay at the Castle long enough to see my father back to health, and then I'll move on."

Oberon purrs to Gram, "Would you be so good as to have Dunstree's staff hanged. Today before sunset."
Then he turns to Dunstree,"You are to not leave Amber and are to stay in the country. You may roam around as you see fit."
"My plan as soon as I arrived. I'm glad that you finally accept the wisdom of it."
Caine laughs,"Disposable staff."
"As Dunstree, private citizen, son of a barmaid and a scribe, I have not, will not, and do not share your fallacy that my actions have any impact on the preconceived notions of King Oberon."
Julian glares,"You are not a son of barmaid and a scribe, you are the son of that bitch Dara and my brother Gerard. Everytime you say that you hurt Gerard you pompass little prat. Moraller than thou, holier than thou, you can piously crawl back to your monastery and pout. Forget it. I will burn down any retreat you go to until you learn you are a Prince."
"So which one is elvish, Dara or Gerard? I hear so many stories I lose track. I think I'll stick with personal experience of the good people who raised me.
"For the present, Oberon has invited me to be a tourist in Amber, and so I shall happily consider myself. After that, Gerard and Alexis have both treated me as if I were raised by and with them, and I'll stick with them, from good personal experience.
"It is in fact even possible that my appointed aunts and uncles may also become people I am fond of. My time in a monastery did not teach me to rely on miracles, but merely to invite them to occur."
"You should count it a miracle your allowed to know how your connected to Amber. Let alone to have the right to insult that same connection." Scherazade comments.
"Circular reasoning is its own damnation, Scherezade. 'Amber is good because we are Amberites and declare it good?' Don't let such wheels grind you down."
"Shush, Dun. She's trying to show us all her superior book-learned logic as well as kiss Grandfather's arse. Let her wax syncophantic, I was finding it disgustingly funny in a disillusioned, bitter fashion." Breyd says in a stage whisper.
Alexis has seemed shocked at the resignation, and spent a few moments composing herself. She rises and curtseys to Oberon.
"Your Majesty, beg my humble intrusion...but I wish to petition on behalf of these events..." she pauses and stays down on her knee. "As I have become the city planner, an extension of my previous duties to the crown; I ask to assume the offices vacated by my brother. Though you have just filled them, I am afraid I was so stunned I could not find my tongue until now." She stays down. "It would be for the benefit of the city that I ask this. With the city bond projects, being combined directly with the running of and the protection of the city, would be to all benefits. Not to mention streamlining and increases in taxable revenue."
"denied. You may work through Breyd. You should have reigned Dunstree in better." Oberon says adamantly.
Alexis stays on her knee. "Before, my brother offered me the job of Sherriff, while it was within his power to do so, and I had refused. At that time I did not fully realize the scope of the position to the well being of our Fair City." she adds.
"Speak to Alvin, the new sheriff."
"Pepper, you are Lord Mayor. Alvin, you are Sheriff of Amber. Make sure you have lots of hangings. Dunstree is very Havenish and that made him weak."
"Dunstree if you feel useful you may apply to go and serve Rory in his war against Ardor."
There's a muffled exclaimation from Breyd as she wakes up. She'd been ignoring the jabs between Dunstree and Oberon as they have gone on for a while now. She discovers her new job and promptly attempts (miserably) to look pleased about it. "Thank you, Grandfather," she says with strangled gratitude. Then she shoots a very direct look at Alvin, her eyes seeming to pare everything about him down into some sort of assessment as she studies him intently. She turns and murmurs something to Digby, her secretary, who's been standing behind her chair looking painfully attentive to the whole business of Court. (he's the one that yanked her out of her daydreams to begin with.)
"I knew it. You have no more loyalty for Rory than I do!" chuckles Dunstree.
Oberon ignores that comment and continues on with Court.
Dun topping him two for two probably soured his milk.
