Leo’s current stud fee is $850 US of which $250 is due at the time of the first breeding (if natural) or prior to first collection (if shipping fresh chilled semen).
The initial $250 is a non-refundable breeding fee, whether or not a pregnancy or puppies result.
I reserve the right to raise Leo’s stud fee in the future with just cause, ie; upon completing additional competitive titles, GRCA HoF, OS, etc. or having pointed/finished offspring.
For natural breedings, bitches may be shipped air cargo to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Burbank (BUR), or Ontario (ONT) or I will meet you within a reasonable (~2 hour) driving radius. Air cargo shipping expenses to and from LAX/BUR/ONT are the responsibility of the bitch’s owner(s), in addition to the stud fee. I charge no fee to drive to these three airports or to meet you (this is partly why the breeding fee is non-refundable – it covers my expenses).
I do not charge any boarding fees for bitches in for breeding up to 10 days, but board will be charged at the rate of $5/day for each day over 10.
For fresh chilled semen, in addition to the stud fee, all semen collection and shipping expenses are the responsibility of the bitch’s owner(s), and must be pre-paid prior to each collection/shipment, but I charge no transportation fee to go have Leo collected.
Three live puppies at 8 weeks of age will constitute a litter.
When three or more live pups reach 8 weeks of age the remaining $600 is due with an AKC Litter Registration Application with the bitch’s owner(s) portion completed and AKC litter registration fee attached. I will then complete, sign, photocopy, and forward the original completed application and payment to the AKC, retain one photocopy for my records, and mail one photocopy back to the bitch’s owner(s).
Should no pregnancy result, OR should three or more puppies not survive to eight weeks of age, the initial $250 breeding fee will be applied toward a repeat service at Leo’s current stud fee at the time of the repeat service. The same bitch may be presented or a substitute bitch that meets my general stud service requirements.
If the bitch’s owner(s) elect to remit the balance of the stud fee due upon the birth of three or more puppies but three or more puppies do not then survive to eight weeks of age, no refund is due. The total amount paid will be applied toward a repeat service.
If for any reason Leo is unavailable for a repeat service, any RDO stud dog may be used at that dog’s current fee and terms.
The owner(s) of the bitch will be provided with proof of Leo’s identity and copies of his health clearances to date prior to the first breeding/insemination.
The owner(s) of the bitch will acknowledge by signed contract prior to the first breeding/insemination their express understanding that Leo’s health clearances do not guarantee that he will not develop health disorders at a later date, nor that any puppies sired by him can be guaranteed to be free of disorders.
Bitches will only be considered for breeding that meet the following requirements: They must be permanently identified with either a tattoo or microchip. They must possess no AKC disqualifying faults, display no faulty temperament traits (excessive aggressiveness or shyness), have an OFA or PennHip hip dysplasia clearance, have eye and heart clearances performed by board-certified veterinary specialists, have a recent (within 30 days) negative brucella test, and are current on their rabies (within 3 years) and distemper/parvo/kennel cough vaccinations (within one year). Other health certifications MAY be required in some cases. I also require a 3-generation (minimum, 5-6 generation preferred) pedigree and a good videotape or photos of the bitch if I can not go over her in person prior to agreeing to the breeding, and a copy of the puppy sale contract you will use.
Puppies sired by Leo must be sold/placed directly into their new homes by the breeder, NOT sold to or displayed in any retail establishment such as a pet store. Puppies not placed into bona fide show homes must be placed on AKC Limited Registrations. Every reasonable attempt (interviews, home visits, etc) must be made to ensure that new pet owner(s) are suitable and prepared to own a Golden Retriever puppy before agreeing to a sale.
Are you still reading? WOW! Thank you for reviewing Leo’s description and stud service terms and fees!
It’s a lot of legal gobbledegook, I know, but necessary to keep my kennel business in order and the integrity of the Golden Retriever breed intact for the generations of dogs that may descend from Leo and your bitch. Please contact me if you have any questions or wish to present your bitch as a breeding candidate for Leo.
