Me getting the "Bobcat" badge, the first thing you get in Cub Scouts. I think I was eight years old. At the time I didn't have any idea where this track would lead me. I was a Cub Scout for about two years until I joined the Boy Scouts, and I managed to earn the Arrow of Light. My mom is in front of me and Mr. Gifford is to my right.
I believe this was the Court of Honor where I was promoted to Star Scout, and I was 13 years old. I had been in the Boy Scouts for about a year and a half and it seemed that I was close to becoming Eagle Scout, yet it would take me another two years to reach that rank.
The New Year's Day after I became Eagle Scout, I was selected to carry a banner in the Tournament of Roses parade, 1994. The Grand Marshal that year was William Shatner (a.k.a. Captain Kirk from Star Trek) and I wound up carrying his banner with a "Gold Award" Girl Scout (that's their highest honor)
