Battle Zone Technology: Vehicles
This list is definitely incomplete, but give it time and it
will shape up!

VEHICLES:
- Combat Paraglider: These unusual conveyances have been substantially modified from their civilian form in a number of ways.
Sensor-baffling reflec body panels absorb many low-powered sensors, giving off only a slight return,
in effect making the paraglider appear to be substantially smaller than it actually
is. Careless sensor operators often mistake a combat paraglider for birds or other such innocuous avian creature.
In addition, combat paragliders have a number of mounting brackets for equipment storage, even of modestly heavy items.
The repulsorlift package has also been augmented to help lift heavier equipment and improve the vehicle's stability and handling. In general, the paraglider can carry up to 80 kilograms of equipment in addition to the pilot.
The combat paraglider also possesses a pull-down display visor that is deployed directly in front of the pilot's face. This display gives easy access to night vision, terrain following and directional modules.
Finally, each paraglider is equipped with a low-powered transponder that allows the pilot to locate other similarly equipped paragliders in the immediate vicinity (for operations in darkness or other low0visibility conditions).
The Nen-Carvon R-19 Paraglider is a simple
vehicle that relies on repulsorlift technology to remain airborn (though air
currents could be utilized in the event of a power failure). It has an
altitude range from ground level up to 5,000 meters. It can fly up to
260 kmh, and the vehicle has a body strength rank of 20. The paraglider's Reflec body panels make it harder to spot via sensors,
decreasing the sensor skill of anyone searching for it by ten ranks. Heads-up display night-vision mode (allows sight with no penalty in a 45-degree arc in front of the pilot, up to a range of 50 meters), terrain following mode
(+10 ranks to sensors checks to follow terrain), and a directional mode (which shows the glider's current position). A low-level transponder allows the pilot to identify other paragliders using the same frequency,
allowing the pilot to remain in visual contact with other team
members. Cost is 20 points (0 at start-up).
- T-47 Airspeeder: A simple luxury airspeeder. Seats a
pilot and one passenger. It flies at 650 KMH and has no weapons. It has a body
strength rating of 40. Cost is 50 points (5 at start-up)
- Rebel Snowspeeder/Airspeeder: The snowspeeders from the
Battle of Hoth were modified to operate in the cold climate of Hoth. These
babies fly at 1000 KMH!! (Whew! That's quick!) They have double laser cannons
with a damage rating of 90 when fire-linked, or 60 when fired separately. They
also have the power harpoon, which has a damage rating of 30 if it is equipped
with a harpoon and not a tow cable. They have a body strength rating of 60.
Cost is 80 points (10 at start-up)
- Storm IV Cloud Car: These are the twin pod-style
airspeeders from Bespin Motors. They seat a pilot and a gunner. They fly at
1500 KMH. They have double blaster cannons that have a damage rating of 100
when fire-linked or 80 when fired separately. Their body strength rating is
80. Cost is 80 points (10 at start-up)
- Mobquet T-6 Turboshrike Speederbike: Seats a driver and a
passenger. Flies at 500 kmh. Offensively, it carries a laser
cannon with a damage rating of 80, and one rear-firing rocket with a damage
rating of 120. It has a body strength rating of 30. Cost is 75
points (5 at start-up)
- Ikas-Adno 22-B Nightfalcon Speederbike: Seats a driver and a passenger. Flies at 450
kmh. It has a
laser cannon with a damage rating of 80. Its body strength rating is a
stunning 35. Cost is 60 points (5 at start-up)
- Skybird Racing Swoop: Swoops are essentially a seat on a
frighteningly powerful engine. They are said to be harder to operate than a
normal speederbike. The Skybird flies at 650 KMH. It seats one, and has no
weapons. It has a body strength rating of 20. Cost is 50 points (5 at
start-up)
- AT-ST: All Terrain ScouT
walker. A scouting and support vehicle. Seats two, a driver and a gunner. It
traverses ideal terrain at 60 KMH. It has one twin blaster cannon (damage
rating is 120), one twin light blaster cannon (damage rating is 60), and a
concussion grenade launcher (damage rating is 60). It has a body strength
rating of 90. Cost is 110 points (15 at start-up)
- AT-AT: All Terrain Armored
Transport. The walker's primary function on the battlefield is to
complement the troops and repulsorcraft. The secondary function is to inspire
terror and dread in the enemy troops. It requires a driver and a gunner, and a
commander/navigator (Kinda like those Cylon fighters from "Battlestar
Galactica!"). In the back, they can carry 40 troopers or two AT-ST's. It
ambles along the ground at 30 KMH. It has two heavy laser cannons (damage
rating is 180 when fire-linked, 150 fired separately) and two medium blasters
(90 when fire-linked, 60 fired separately). The body strength rating of
an AT-AT is 180 Cost is 150 points (15 at
start-up)

Rebel Military Ground
Vehicles
*Unique to BZ - Designed by player Admiral
Kanaris*
- Mekuun MGV-1R Military Transport Vehicle: As the Rebel
Alliance became more established, and undertook more conventional military
duties such as garrison, ground assault and a standardized recruitment and
training program, the military command determined that it was no longer
desirable to rely on a menagerie of stolen Imperial and legacy equipment.
Specifications were prepared with the Alliance’s specific needs and priorities
in mind. To begin with, the military ground vehicles ("MGVs") had to be
relatively inexpensive since the Alliance lacked the deep pockets of the
Empire and preferred to lavish its discretionary funds on advanced space
fighters -- an emphasis not lost on army recruits. Second, the MGVs had to be
able to function for extended periods in harsh environments since the Alliance
was often based in Rim sectors. Third, they had to be easy to maintain and
repair, again since the Alliance was often located far from normal trade
channels and due to the Empire’s military superiority and capability of
disrupting identified supply lines. Fourth, they had to be designed to help
assure the safety of Alliance personnel, since the Alliance placed a far
higher value on life than the Empire. Mekuun turned in the winning bid
proposal, with a series of cheap, efficient and ugly angular craft using
well-established, tried and true repulsorlift and hover technology. Sale of
these vehicles is restricted to the Alliance military. They are not in common
use otherwise, and ownership or use by non-Alliance personnel is sufficiently
rare such that arrest and confiscation is highly probable. The lightest
vehicle in the line is the MGV-1R. The "R" indicates the vehicle uses
repulsorlift technology for motivation. The MGV-1H is the same platform on a
hover technology base ("H" stands for hover) since repulsor technology does
not operate properly on all terrains and worlds. The hover design is also
easier to pilot, though the MGV military transport series is probably the
easiest repulsor motivated vehicle to operate – far easier than even a
civilian speeder since army recruits tend to be of uneven quality. The Mekuun
MGV-1R military transport vehicle requires 1 pilot to operate, and can carry
up to 7 fully equipped troopers as passengers. One sits next to the pilot, and
the other 6 sit in back facing inward, 3 per side. The pilot row has two seats
with an opening between them that provides passage to the rear seating (and
lets a dead pilot be dragged out and quickly replaced). The MGV-1R has light
armor (sufficient to withstand fire from nearly all hand-held blaster weaponry
but clearly insufficient to stop heavy anti-vehicle weapons) that is
chest-high for seated personnel. The vehicle is open top but can be covered
with a rollover plasteel canopy. Ingress and egress is out side doors for the
pilot row, a hatch-back at the back of the passenger compartment, or over the
top and out for anyone who doesn’t like doors or likes to make an athletic
entrance. The vehicle is rectangular in shape and extremely angular. Incoming
straight-line ground level fire is guaranteed to hit armor sloped at 45
degrees for maximum deflection and even heavy weapons fire has been known to
deflect upon occasion. There is also a heavy armor plate beneath the entire
bottom of the vehicle so that even if it is disabled by a mine, the crew and
passengers have a good chance of surviving. The lift engine is located in the
center of the vehicle to reduce the odds of a disabling shot. The basic MGV-1
model is unarmed, but it includes a pop-up tubular mounting arm in the center
of the passenger area that can accommodate 360 degree swing mounted weapon –
typically a light laser, heavy blaster, quad projectile launcher or light
surface-to-air missile tube. There is storage for ordinance under the
passenger bench seating. The MGV-1 is extremely reliable from a mechanical
standpoint since it utilizes hundred-year old, established technology. The
design team studied commercial antecedents then simplified the engineering for
reliability, ease of maintenance, logistics compatibility, and ease of
mass-production. One of the main complaints of infantrymen and armored vehicle
commanders is lack of adequate engine power. The design team, therefore, went
out of their way to make sure the entire MGV line is substantially
"overpowered," and all series members are generally faster and more
maneuverable than ordinarily expected for comparable standard military
vehicles (and that includes vehicles employing more advanced technology).
Although Mekuun produces and recommends use of military-spec parts, it is
common knowledge that a number of readily available commercial speeder
components can be substituted with minimal degradation of short-term
performance. The engine designs are especially stable and MGV line vehicles
can absorb a lot of punishment and still run. In addition, the entire series
uses standardized components, making Mekuun military ground vehicles special
favorites of base commandants since the supply of spares for the motor pool
can be minimized and parts can be scavenged from heavily damaged vehicles to
keep the remainder of the ground fleet running. Thus, not only is the MGV line
cheap (for a military-grade vehicle) to produce but it is also inexpensive to
maintain. Enclosed MGV series vehicles are sealed, filtered and monitored to
protect against chemical and bio-hazards. Cost is 150 points (15 at
start-up)
- Mekuun MGV-2RA military transport vehicle: The Mekuun
MGV-2RA military transport vehicle requires 1 pilot to operate, and can carry
up to 11 fully equipped troopers as passengers. This is basically an elongated
MGV-1R platform (open-top, factory standard model is unarmed but can
accommodate a mounted weapon). It is also available with hover motivation
(model MGV-2HA). Cost is 80 points (10 at start-up)
- Mekuun MGV-2RB military transport/armored fighting
vehicle: The Mekuun MGV-2RB military transport/armored fighting
vehicle requires 1 pilot to operate, 1 gunner, and can carry up to 10 fully
equipped troopers as passengers (11 if one replaces the gunner). This is
basically an elongated MGV-1R platform, except that heavy armor is employed,
the profile is a bit higher and the top is fully enclosed. There is also a
one-being (360 degree traverse) weapons turret mounted over the pilot-row
passenger seat. The factory standard model provides a heavy repeating blaster
for the turret, but it is not uncommon to see laser turrets that also include
anti-aircraft capability. It is also available with hover motivation (model
MGV-2HB). The command version (model MGV-2RC/model MGV-2HC) replaces half of
the passenger compartment with communications and battlefield monitoring
equipment, so the passenger capacity is reduced by 5. There is also an
embedded self-destruct charge in the command version to prevent capture.
Cost is 80 points (10 at start-up)
- Mekuun MGV-10R tank: The Mekuun MGV-10R tank requires a
crew of 5: 1 commander, 1 pilot, and 3 gunners. There is no passenger
capacity, as all additional space is occupied by electronics, ordinance and
storage for critical spare parts. As with all of the MGV series, it is
rectangular, has a low, angular and ugly profile and has extra under-the-floor
armor to protect the crew from mines. Unlike the military transport/AFV Mekuun
offerings, the MGV-10 tank is shielded. It is extremely well powered, fast and
maneuverable for a tank. That gives it the ability to survive on a field
dominated by heavier AT-ATs. Ingress and egress is through a hatch on the main
turret and a door in back. Its main weapon is a primary turret (360 degree
traverse) mounted heavy particle cannon with an effective range of five
kilometers that can level trooper bunkers with a single shot and materially
damage or destroy a shielded AT-AT. Secondary weaponry includes a
fast-reaction laser for anti-aircraft or anti-small vehicle fire mounted in a
(360 degree traverse) low profile turret on the main turret, a heavy repeating
blaster mounted next to the particle cannon on the primary turret, and small
hull turret (270 degree traverse -- 360 degree if the main turret is blown off
and they still work!) mounted forward and rear heavy repeating blasters. It
takes two gunners to operate the particle cannon, though the second gunner
also has plenty of time to operate the parallel heavy repeating blaster if so
inclined (it can be set on automatic targeting). One gunner operates the
laser, and the hull mounted heavy repeating blasters are remotely controlled
by the commander and pilot or left on automatic targeting. It is also
available with hover motivation (model MGV-10H). Cost is 100 points (10
at start-up)
