Battle Zone Technology: Neutral Spacecraft

Neutral Fighters/Freighters- Part B:
- StarViper-class Heavy Assault Fighter: The StarViper-class Heavy Assault Fighter was designed by MandalMotors for Prince Xizor, at the time head of the Black Sun criminal organization. It looks like a backwards
Outback Steakhouse Bloomin' Onion and is 21 meters in length. It can match a TIE Interceptor for speed and maneuverability, yet its four S-foil wings are so heavily armored they can withstand even concentrated fire from an X-Wing. The wings also hold reserve fuel cells and each have two micro-thrusters on the end. They are retracted against the engines and pilot compartment for standard space flight and during planetary landings, but fold out in space-combat for maximum thruster-enhanced maneuverability. It is called a "mobile platform" ship because the wings and thrust nacelles constantly fold and adjust in flight. The ship is full of segregated systems that make it tough to completely knock out. For example, there are four separate power generators, one in each wing spar. Each supplies a wing and one-quarter of the main engine thrust. It has a pair of rear-mounted Quadex IGt engines, three Torplex shield generators guarding the rear, which is not heavily armored, and an additional shield generator supplementing the heavily armored front. It seats 1 pilot, has an excellent navicomputer and an advanced Carbanti St2X targeting computer and sighting laser system (for fire control during complex maneuvers). It has a hyperspace rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 10/20 (maneuverability is 30/50 when the wings
are retracted), and flies at 1,200 km/h in atmosphere with wings retracted, 600 km/h in atmosphere with wings extended. The weapons complement consists of a pair of Taim & Bak Ht-12 over-and-under double heavy laser cannons (damage rating for each pair is 250; with both pairs fire-linked, damage is 360), each mounted on a forward extending arm which can rotate 180 degrees from fore to aft when the wings are extended. These cannons are restricted to forward fire with the wings retracted. The two arms can only be fire-linked if facing front or backwards. There are also two forward-firing proton torpedo launchers (damage is 400 each if fired separately, 450 if fire-linked), each with a magazine of 3 torpedoes. The forward and wing hull and shield strength ratings are 300 and 50, respectively. The rear hull and shield strength ratings are 150 and 200, respectively. Cost for this unique, limited production starfighter is a whopping
275. Purchasing this vessel is a privilege that must be sought and
granted.
- StarViper B-class Heavy Assault Fighter: MandalMotors recognized that there would be an extremely limited market for the maximum quality/ultra expensive StarViper, and therefore produced additional more affordable vessels patterned off the StarViper designed. These ships are cheaper because they use fewer redundant systems, generic rather than best-of-class name-brand parts, and are intended to be "merely competitive" with the latest generation of starfighters. The StarViper B is a "mobile platform ship" that looks exactly like the premium StarViper, and can still match a TIE Interceptor for speed and maneuverability. It seats 1 pilot, and has a navicomputer and good fire control system. It has a hyperspace rating of
1, a maneuverability rating of 20/30 (maneuverability is 40/60 when the wings
are retracted), and flies at 1,200 km/h in atmosphere with wings retracted, 600 km/h in atmosphere with wings extended. The weapons complement consists of a pair of over-and-under double heavy laser cannons (damage rating for each pair is 250; with both pairs fire-linked, damage is 320), each mounted on a forward extending arm which can rotate 180 degrees from fore to aft when the wings are extended. These cannons are restricted to forward fire with the wings retracted. The two arms can only be fire-linked if facing front or backwards. There are also two forward-firing proton torpedo launchers (damage is 360 each if fired separately, 400 if fire-linked), each with a magazine of 3 torpedoes. The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 100, respectively. Cost is 150. (design by
Kanaris)
- TIE-Y "Ugly" (TYE): This 12 meter long patchwork fighter is a TIE Fighter cabin mounted (crew of 1) on a Y-Wing engine package. It is very fast, and relatively maneuverable, for an Ugly, but is also fragile. It can travel at 850 km/h in
atmosphere, has a maneuverability rating of 35/40, and is not hyperspace capable. The weapons complement consists of two front-arc laser cannon (damage is 250). The hull strength rating is 100, and there are no shields. Cost is 60 points.
- Toscan 8-Q Starfighter: Shobquix Yards' Toscan 8-Q is one of several early starfighter designs that lead to the Y-Wing. It is 10.2 meters long and has a crew of 1. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 40/40, and can travel at 850 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 2 laser cannons (damage is 250 each). The hull rating is 100, and there are no shields. Cost is 60 points.
- #2 Warpod: The Utig Abaha Ltd. #2 Warpod is a pinnace. Pinnaces are coveted among pirates due to their cargo capacity (1 metric ton), weapons configuration, and overall adaptability. This particular type of model is favored by a pirate operating near the Corporate Sector. It has a crew of 5 (includes 4 gunners), and can carry 6 troops. It flies at 1,000 km/h in atmosphere,
has a maneuverability rating of 40/50, and is not hyperspace capable. The weapons complement consists of two laser cannons (damage rating for each is 250; 300 if fire-linked) mounted in a turret, and a plasma torch boarding device (damage is 400) mounted on the ship's airlock system. Once the hull is breached, the torch requires a full minute to cut a one meter wide by two meters tall hole. The extensible boarding tube attaches to the hull and forms an airtight seal in 30 seconds. The hull and shield strength ratings are 150 and 50, respectively. Cost is 110.
- X-23 Space Barge: The Incom X-23 StarWorker 38 meter long intra-system space barge is potentially a rich prize for pirates. It lacks any defense worth considering, except for its tendency to operate near well-defended stations. It requires a crew of 2, plus a labor droid, but with a command skill of 45 can operate with a crew of 1. Cargo capacity is 5,000 metric tons. It can travel at 650 km/h in
atmosphere, has a maneuverability rating of 50/50, and does not have a hyperdrive. It has a hull strength rating of 150, and no shields. Cost is 20 points.
- X-26 StarHaul: One of Incom's contributions to the bulk transport market is the X-26, an armed and hyperspace capable version of the X-23. Still, it has little going for it beyond the price. It requires a crew of 2, plus a labor droid. Cargo capacity is 5,000 metric tons. It has a hyperdrive rating of
4, a maneuverability rating of 60/80, and can travel at 200 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of one turret mounted laser cannon (damage is 150). It has a hull strength rating of 150, and no shields. Cost is 30 points.
- X-TIE "Ugly" (Incom T-65B X-wing-TIE Fighter): This patchwork starfighter is typically constructed by putting hexagonal TIE fighter solar panels where the wings belong on an X-Wing. It is barely spaceworthy and you would have to be a pirate or broke smuggler to fly one. A real starfighter could destroy these uglies by the dozen. It is 12.5 meters long and seats a crew of 1. It has a hyperdrive rating of 1 (but only stores 1
jump), a maneuverability rating of 55/70, and can travel at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 4 fire-linked front aiming laser cannons (damage is 300). The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 100, respectively. Cost is 100 points.
- Y-TIE "Ugly": This 10 meter long patchwork fighter is a Y-Wing front (crew of 2) and a TIE Fighter solar panel rear. It can travel at 800 km/h in
atmosphere, has a maneuverability rating of 25/50, and is not hyperspace capable. The weapons complement consists of two front-arc laser cannon (damage is 250) and a swivel mount pair of laser cannon (damage is 250). This Ugly is common due to the abundance of parts. It is not very fast or maneuverable, but it is durable and hard-hitting. The hull and shield strength ratings are 200 and 65, respectively. Cost is 60 points.
- YT-1210 Light Freighter: The Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1210 Transport is 35 meters long. It was the immediate predecessor to the YT-1300, and just isn't quite up to the 1300's speed and is missing a few amenities. Although the YT-1210 had a much shorter production run, it can be found all over the Galaxy. It requires a crew of 2, and can accommodate 4 passengers. Cargo capacity is 100 metric tons. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 30/40, and can travel at 800 km/h in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of one turret mounted laser cannon (damage is 200). It has hull and shield strength ratings of 200 and 50, respectively. Cost is 100 points.
- YT-1300: This is a representative of the thousands of different makes and models of freighters used throughout the galaxy. The YT-1300 is highly durable, modifiable, and reliable, which makes it popular. It is a little over 26.7 meters long, has a 100 metric ton capacity and Corellian dilemma-saucer based design. The cockpit seats four. The ship nominally requires a crew of 2 plus 2 gunners, though the ship can be flown easily by just one able pilot. It can hold 6 passengers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 30/40, and flies at 1,050 km/h in most planetary atmospheres. Unmodified, it carries one blaster cannon, in a top-mounted turret, with a damage rating of 160. It has a hull strength rating of 300, and in an unmodified state has no shields. Cost is 150 points.
- YT-2400 Freighter: This ship features the trademark saucer shape of Corellian Engineering Corporation's YT-1300 (saucer diameter is 21 meters), but is a newer ship -- once again, fast, tough and endlessly modifiable. It comes with an oversized power core, increased armor, reinforced bulkheads and even a heavy double laser cannon in a turret (damage is 250), plus extra space for modifications. The rounded hull has a pair of starboard bracing arms that connect to the cockpit compartment, which is essentially a long tube. The aft section of the cockpit tube contains the primary escape pod, which seats six. The bracing arm's interior generally is used for crew quarters and living space. The rounded hull area is devoted to cargo holds with a capacity of 100 metric tons and ship's systems. In practice, much of that space is occupied by modified engines, power generators, weapons systems, and all the other illegal "goodies" any self-respecting smuggling ship needs. A second escape pod, as well as the air lock, is located on the far side of the cargo compartment, directly opposite the bracing arms. The cockpit seats six, but the ship can be flown easily by one pilot. The recommended crew is 2, and it can hold 4 passengers. The gun turret can be controlled via the targeting computer in the cockpit but has better accuracy with a gunner in the hull gun-pit. It flies at 950 km/h in most planetary atmospheres,
has a maneuverability rating of 25/35, and has a hyperdrive rating of 1. It has hull and shield strength ratings of 250 and 100, respectively. Cost is 180 points.
- R-41 Starchaser: The R-41 Starchaser is a multi-role fighter like the Z-95 but with better performance. Take it seriously. It flies at 1250 km/h in atmosphere,
has a maneuverability rating of 25/40, and has no hyperspace capability. The weapons complement consists of dual lasers (damage is 240 when fire-linked and 180 if fired separately) and a dual ion cannons (ion damage rating is 160 when fire linked, 80 when fired separately). The hull and shield strength ratings are 160 and 40, respectively. Cost is 110 points.
- R-42 Dropfighter: This is a fully modernized interceptor mission starfighter intended for use with carrier fleets or in the system-defense role. It is
almost as maneuverable as an A-Wing, extremely fast in space and has good atmospheric dynamics. The 12 meter flattened ovoid design (with four tail-fins) is especially suited for rough-weather planetary conditions, and an internal gyroscope lets it pop up, "drop" down (as in "Dropfighter") and around in a bee-like fashion. It flies at 1,300 km/h in atmospheric
condition, has a maneuverability rating of 10/25, but lacks hyperspace capability. The manufacturer claims the Rebel Alliance refused to even consider the R-42 because of an unwritten policy that all pilots deserved fighters with hyperdrive. It seats 1 pilot. The weapons complement is three laser cannons (damage is 260 when fire linked, 200 when fired separately), and there are hard-points for external mounting of two concussion missiles (damage rating is 360 each, cannot be fire-linked). It has a targeting jammer system which penalizes an enemy by -20 on their gunnery skill when they try to fire at it. The hull strength rating is 160 and the shield rating is 100. Cost is 100 points. (design by
Kanaris)
- T-Wing: The T-Wing interceptor is a good, if old, multi-role craft. It is small, fast, maneuverable and cheap. The latter aspect makes it a favorite of pirates and smugglers. It seats 1 pilot. It flies at 1,000 km/h in atmosphere,
has a maneuverability rating of 30/40, and has no hyperspace capability. The weapons complement consists of dual lasers (damage is 140 when fire-linked and 100 if fired separately) and a concussion missile launcher (damage is 280). The hull and shield strength ratings are 160 and 40, respectively. Cost is 95 points.
- Z-95 Headhunter: A real museum piece. Originally an atmospheric craft, this ship was the precursor to the T-65 X-Wing. These outdated craft are still in use on backwater worlds, by pirates and smugglers. This is in the neutral ship section because the Alliance does not commonly use it anymore (except as a trainer). There are innumerable variants and modified versions, including hyperspace capable versions. It seats 1 pilot. It flies at 1,050 km/h in atmosphere,
a maneuverability rating of 45/55, and this version has no hyperspace capability. It has two triple blasters (damage is 120 fire-linked or 80 fired separately) and a concussion missile launcher (damage is 280). The hull and shield strength ratings are 160 and 40, respectively. Cost is 85 points.
