Common Galactic Slang
Each region of the galaxy (as well as every lifestyle in each region) has its own set of slang terms. So while every world is going to have different slang, some is universal. Most of the terms found on this page will be relatively common for most areas. Exceptions will be words and phrases with notations next to them ("Elrood sector specific," "usually heard only among pirates," "used only by privateers", etc...). While they may have fallen out of use, or never have been very popular, most people will know and understand these phrases and words. |
Acceptable Losses - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Commonly used by gamblers as a "bottom line." What a gambler would consider the very least acceptable way of doing business.
Achieve Zero Visibility - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To duck or hide out.
Action - Any ship-to-ship engagement.
Almosters - (Elrood sector specific) Residents of Lanthrym, which almost won a coveted spot on the E-D Run. Lanthrymers do not like to be reminded of this, so use of this term will likely start a fight.
Bad Idea - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A risky deal with little to zero profit potential. (As in, "This is a very bad idea.")
Bantha Brakes - Tractor beams.
Bantha Fodder - What one will end up as if a promised deal doesn't come through. And please note that the Webster's dictionary definition of fodder is "something fed to animals," and not the waste of the aforementioned beasts.
Big Finish - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal with an unexpected or violent ending.
Bilateral Business - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Conducting multiple deals. See Kessel Run.
Black Box - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal for military technology. Also Hardware.
Black Hole - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal gone so bad that it has no immediate end.
Blackheads - Imperial officers. named for the black caps they wear.
Blaster-proof - A master spacer, someone who knows space life intimately, especially one who has been in several actions.
Boarders - Anyone attacking another ship's crew in close-quarters fighting. Whether the valiant lads attacking the enemy or the scum trying to take your ship.
Boba-ize - From the unfortunate Boba Fett; to do something really stupid - like fall into a Sarlacc pit (whether or not Boba Fett escaped from the Sarlacc's belly in the Battle Zone timeline has yet to become an issue, but the term works fine either way).
Booty - (usually heard only among pirates) Anything of value seized from a prize.
Boys-in-Black - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Imperial Customs agents.
Boys-in-Brown - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Corporate Sector Authority Espo troopers.
Boys-in-White - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Stormtroopers.
Brother (or Sister) - (usually heard only among pirates and privateers) A fellow pirate or privateer.
BTAD - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Boring, Typical, Average Deal.
Businessman - A smuggler
Cavalry - When used by citizens on the "Fringe" of galactic society, it is a semi-sarcastic euphemism for Rebel Alliance forces.
Chirps - Any droid that communicates through electronic languages of beeps and whistles and cannot speak basic.
Chroma-Neeka - A thief who slips through the cracks of large governments or companies.
Client - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) The recipient of a deal whose identity is usually kept anonymous. The more clients in a deal, the more credits that pass between hands.
Club - (usually heard only among pirates) Ion cannon, used to bring a prize into submission.
Company - The ship, officers, and crew, collectively, especially one set up along business lines.
Coreward - Toward the Core worlds.
Cousin - (used only by privateers) Privateer term for their shipboard Alliance observer. See Uncle and Family.
Crash & Bash - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A heist made to look like random piracy.
Cruise - (usually heard only among pirates) Going raiding for an extended period.
Cue the Soundtrack - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A bad deal turned completely around at the appropriate moment. (As in, "Cue the Soundtrack boys, I'm back and I'm not happy to see you.")
Cut/Count Out - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) As in cutting or counting one's losses. To terminate a deal without completing it. (As in, "I'm cutting myself out," or "Count me out!")
Deep Hunting - (usually heard only among pirates) Lurking in deep space along trade routes with mass blocks, to pounce on anyone unlucky enough to drop out of hyperspace.
Deal - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A business transaction. No blood oaths, no swearing on anyone's grave... Just business.
Death Star - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A big finish that ends with a big bang.
Dreamers - The Rebel Alliance. While most residents of the galaxy would love to see the Alliance ultimately triumph over the Empire, the common feeling is that the Alliance is a pipe dream.
Drooling Drebble - A bounty hunter.
Drooling Drebble With Fangs - A particularly nasty bounty hunter.
The Drift - (Elrood sector specific) A huge cloud of gas that spans much of the sector. It is reputed to be extremely dangerous to navigate and there are no known hyperspace routes through the region.
E-D Run - (Elrood sector specific) Nickname for the Elrood-Derilyn Trade Route.
Escape Pod - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A painless way out of a bad deal.
The Extreme - (Elrood sector specific) The section of the E-D Run that is under Imperial control, running from just beyond Torina to Derilyn. So named due to the belief that anyone traveling the run from Derilyn to Torina is extremely unlikely to make the run without being boarded or harassed by the Empire.
Family - (used only by privateers) Members of the Alliance. See also Uncle.
Fashionably Dead - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Something a gambler would rather not be.
Finally Made His/Her Fortune - The person died. Normally used as biting sarcasm.
Fishing - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A gambler in search of business or clients. Also Scanning.
Flying Rocks - Mining company ore carriers.
Flying Triangle - Imperial Star Destroyers.
The Freeze - Space. Also "the Deep Freeze," deep space.
The Gate - (Elrood sector specific) Coyn. In Elrood sector, Coyn is the closest planet to the rest of the galaxy.
Geeks With Guns - Any local security force.
Gnats - Also swarm of gnats. TIE fighters.
Good Idea - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) An above-average deal with good potential for profit or business.
Grunts - Gamorreans. Derisive term.
Grand Idea - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal that sounds too good to be true, and probably is.
Great Idea - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A risky deal for lots of credits... Just what a gambler likes!
Guns - Any weapons aboard or mounted on a ship; lasers, blasters, tractor beams, etc.
Hands - Generic crew members, not officers. The phrase "all hands on deck" literally orders that all crew members should present themselves.
Hardware - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal for weapons or military technology. Also Black Box.
Head For Hyperspace - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To cut out of a deal or duck out of trouble. See Cut/Count Out.
Helping the Emperor - Someone who has been seized by the Empire and forced either into Imperial military service (conscription) or sent off to work in a penal mining colony.
His Imperial Travesty - Emperor Palpatine.
Hotline - (used only by privateers) Also Homeline. Privateer term for their Alliance communications coder.
Idea - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) An average deal in the making. See BTAD.
Inherit - To acquire by less than legal means.
Jackers - Ship thieves.
Kessel Run - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To turn one complicated deal into more deals, or to dangerously overextend yourself. (As in, "Sounds like she's on the Kessel Run.")
Krilhead - A stupid person. Named for an unintelligent bovine creature that serves as a source of meat.
Lapdogs - (usually heard only among pirates) Pirate term for privateers.
Letter of Marque and Reprisal - The contract and license a privateer operates under, issued by a government to private citizens, authorizing them to prey on enemy ships.
Life Detection - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Checking for signs of intelligence among potential clients. See Scanning.
The Link - Informal networks comprised of gossipers that pass unofficial secrets and rumors that the mainstream media will not touch.
Long Zone - A jump zone considerably removed from a planet.
Mass Block - Any realspace object more massive than a given hyperspace object, used to force a ship out of hyperspace.
Mates - A crewmember's fellows, as in "My mates and me." Also the command officers immediately under the captain, as in First Mate.
Nicely Dressed - Someone who is blatantly or heavily armed. The opposite would be Stylishly Dressed, someone who is discretely armed. In short, bounty hunters are often "nicely dressed," while most gamblers prefer to be "stylishly dressed."

Nuts & Bolts - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal for electronics, computers, or droids.
One-Stop Shopping - (Jacker slang) Stealing a ship with its cargo intact.
Parental Supervision - Heavily armed guards, or Imperial escorts.
Party Crashers - (Jacker slang) Bounty hunters specializing in the capture of shipjackers and retrieval of stolen ships.
Pirate - A being who subsists by seizing commercial ships and carrying off their cargo and often crew and ship itself, for profit.
Pirate King/Queen - Leader of a fleet of ships or any very large number of pirates. Usually applied to a leader with a regal or haughty air. An equivalent leader of a smaller group is sometimes called a pirate lord/lady.
Pretty All-Purpose Object - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) An artifact or unrecognized item that is purportedly of value.
Privateer - A private citizen under contract with a government who carries off enemy cargo, crew, and often ship, for profit.
Prize - A targeted or captured ship.
Prize Money - The cash value of a captured ship.
Proties - Short for protocol droids, this is a derisive term for anything (or anyone) that is perceived as useless.
Race the Run - (Elrood sector specific) Go from one end of the E-D Run to the other.
Race the Run Adrift - (Elrood sector specific) Same as above, but the pilot actually made it to Derilyn.
Raider - Generic term for pirate or privateer.
Reel - Tractor beams, used to reel prizes in.
Relatives - Also distant relatives or the other side of the family. Privateer term for pirates.
Rimward - Toward the frontier, the Outer Rim territories.
Rock Chewers - Miners
Roods - (Elrood sector specific) Anyone born or having lived most of their life in Elrood Sector.
Rulebook - Also Law Book. A blaster. Describes the many beings who must take the law into their own hands, enforcing it at blaster point.
The Run - (Elrood sector specific) Nickname for the E-D Run.
Salted - Said of spacers. Experienced, especially a spacer who has survived a few tours or actions. Originally referred to a spacer who had undergone space sickness and the usual illnesses formerly common to space crew.
Scanning - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) Fishing for new clients or business.
Seasoned - Said of spacers. Very experienced, a spacer who has been through several tours and can be trusted to operate without much supervision.
Self Service - Pirates. In essence, they help themselves to others' ships and the cargoes within.
Sevari Sidestep - using finesse to elude the long arm of the authorities.
Shags - Wookiees. Generally used affectionately, but can be derisive.
Shareout - (usually heard only among pirates) Dividing up the profits of a raid.
Shim - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To swindle or bilk. Generally not appreciated by clients.
Shoot the Stars - Engage hyperdrive.
Short Zone - A jump zone close to a planet, dangerous for raiders due to proximity of aid.
Ship's Articles - The loose set of internal rules under which a raider operates.
Software - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal for leisure or recreation items like entertainment holos or alcohol.
Spaced - Killed by being exposed to space without survival gear.
Spacer - A being who makes his or her living from working in space.
Spiced - Said of spacers. Highly experienced, to the point of having seen it all and becoming jaded and usually eccentric.
Stompasaur - An Imperial AT-AT walker.
Stopshort - (Elrood sector specific) - Torina, located on the E-D Run. Torina is the last planet before Derilyn, one "stop short" of the end of the Run.
Surprise package - A trap, generally a well-armed ship disguised as a soft prize.
Sweets & Seasonings - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) A deal for restricted goods, like spice.
Taken Up Mining - Someone who tried to complete the E-D Run, but was caught by the Empire.
Tatooine Tattoo - A price on your head.
Tender - Inexperienced, a new hand who has not yet seen a full tour.
Thriller - (usually heard only among pirates) A pirate in love with the media image of pirates.
Throw a Hydrospanner in the Works - To force someone else's business or activity to an abrupt end.
Ticktils - Chadra-Fan, Squib, Ewoks, or a member of any other "cute" species. A pronunciation of TCTL, which stands for "Too Cute To Live."
Top Off the Tanks - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To sweeten a risky deal, make it more enticing or attractive to the gambler or the client.
Tour - (usually heard only among pirates) A series of cruises, usually until each crew member has received a set amount of money or goods, anywhere from 50,000 to 500,000 credits. Between tours on pirate ships, crews change, ship's articles are amended, and votes on officers can be called.
Toz - (slightly Elrood sector specific) The chief grain found on Merisee, which has been transplanted to many of the other worlds in the Elrood Sector (and a few planets in the mainstream galaxy). it is used in breads, mushes, flour, and brewed into utoz, a popular alcoholic beverage.
Tozzed - (slightly Elrood sector specific) Drunk
Tramp-With-a-Cramp - Tramp freighter pilot or smuggler with a very unreliable reputation.
Transit - Moving to or from a jump zone in a system.
Tracers - Bounty hunters.
Treasure - (usually heard only among pirates and privateers) Precious cargo. Cargo highly valuable and portable.
Uncle - (used only by privateers) Privateer term for the Alliance as an entity.
Unluckies - Term for people who are not from Elrood Sector but now find themselves there.
Used Speeder Lot - An Imperial hangar bay or docking complex.
Utoz - (slightly Elrood sector specific) A very popular drink brewed from fermented toz grain. Rarely found outside of Elrood, but some luxury resorts and fine restaurants carry it in their lounges.
Utozz - (Elrood sector specific) A brand of utoz, created by the Utozz Prime Brewery Corporation, the largest and oldest brewery on Merisee. Other brands exist, so the heavy tariffs on Utozz brand utoz keep it within Elrood.
Vaccinate - (revered term of gamblers and other deal makers) To insure or prevent a deal from falling apart.
Vader Grader - (Jacker slang) A target so well protected that even Darth Vader would have found it hard to acquire.
Walk the Lock - (usually heard only among pirates) A ritual execution carried out by dumping someone out an airlock.
Wet-dock - As opposed to dry-dock, where ships are repaired, a wet-dock is a bar.
What's the Trouble? - How much does this cost? What is the price? What do I owe you?
White Wonders - Stormtroopers. Derisive term.
Wookinate - To render a foe or danger harmless through excessive amounts of force; what any good Wookiee would do. (As in, "You go on ahead, I'll Wookinate that scout walker!")
Zoning - (usually heard only among pirates) Also lurking, lurking the zone, or cruising the zone. Laying in wait near a jump zone.
Bounty Hunter Slang
Professional hunters maintain a sense of remoteness from the average galactic citizen - it's hard to tell which person will become tomorrow's paycheck. Bounty hunters have their own manner of speaking which helps them establish any kind of emotional distance from future targets. |
Acquisition - Any individual who is the subject of a bounty.
Blood Money - Any form of fee paid to Imperial authorities deducted from the value of a bounty. Typically a term applied to the cost of various permit fees charged by Imperial administrators.
Bloodsucker - Collectors of Imperial permit fees.
Enforcer - A bounty hunter's personal expeditor.
Gotcha - Any determent placed on a bounty that could conceivably limit the revenues that may be collected from the fulfillment of that contract.
Grubs - Derogatory term for average galactic citizens.
Hundred Club - Those acquisitions currently worth 100,000 or more credits.
Hunt - Any tracking and retrieval operation conducted against a bounty acquisition.
Hunter - The traditional term used by bounty hunters to refer to any other holder of an IPKC (Imperial Peace-Keeping Certificate, basically a license to be a bounty hunter). In specific, the term is often used to refer to a bounty hunter who has made at least one successful capture.
Master Hunter - (primarily used in the bounty hunting guilds) Any hunter who has successfully completed a minimum of 100 hunts.
Most Wanted - Those individuals who represent the most serious threat to the peace and the stability of the New Order. These acquisitions also generally have the higher paying bounties on their heads.
Pay Check - Term for a warrant that needs to be "cashed" by Imperial officials offworld.
Petty Cash - Synonym for Pin-money.
Pin-Money - Any small-time criminal who, despite widespread criminal activities, has only a relatively small bounty value posted against him/her, which discourages most professional hunters from wasting their time.
Pull Leather - To support a fellow hunter. Traditionally from the phrase "to pull leather," meaning to be willing to take up arms in the defense of another.
Sluice - Fees paid to a hunters expeditor.
Squeaks - Information obtained by the overt use of intimidation.
Squeaker - An informant who yields valuable information as a direct result of intimidation.
Two-timer - An acquisition with two separate bounties presently posted against him/her.
Special Operations/Intelligence Slang
Special Operations and Intelligence take great pains to ensure that their jargon is as cryptic as possible. Some Spec Ops teams like to engage in conversations with member of other branches of the Alliance in order to see just how long they can get away with talking at cross purposes. |
# Chicken Alarm - A hazard assessment, following an exponential sequence: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 13 Chicken Alarms have been called in the past. A Death Star sighting merits a 13 Chicken Alarm, while an Imperial Fleet arriving in-system would be an 8. A solitary Star Destroyer is a 5, 3 is a ground army advancing, 2 is a small group of enemy ships, and 1 is any other sizable enemy operation. This term can also be used to rate the relative danger of a mission. *Note: This term fell out of use considerably in the years between the battle of Endor and the Empire's recapturing of Coruscant.
# G's - Number of hostile aliens (ie; 7 G's, 10 G's, etc.)
23er - An agent who has made 20 field assignments and been retired; any very competent agent (refers to the percentage of chance any given agent has of successfully living through 20 missions - the point at which an agent is forced to take a desk job).
ABH - Average Bounty Hunter, or rather, above-average bounty hunter.
Acquisition Run - Any combat operation presenting opportunities for large-scale theft.
Amphibians - Aquatic Wilderness Fighters. Often literally correct, as various amphibious species make a large percentage of these units.
Bantha - Derogatory Imperial repulsortank crew term for AT-AT walkers.
Bantha Rider - Derogatory Imperial repulsortank crew term for AT-AT crewers.
Battery - A lot of chickens huddled together, enough to make even a Special Op slightly nervous.
BBH - Boring Bounty Hunter, the common run of target practice
BH - Bounty Hunter
Birdwatcher - ISB Agent, from the Special Ops version of the acronym "Imperial Sunbathers and Birdwatchers" (Special Ops tend to have a low opinion of the ISB).
Black - Any large denomination (1000 credits +) that is probably "blackmarked" and traceable.
Blaster Magnet - An Imperial officer.
Blind Jump - Setting up an intelligence network on a new planet.
Boring - Either "extremely dangerous" or "no threat at all" or possibly both at the same time. Only Special Ops know how this one works.
Boys in White - Stormtroopers
BUG - (Big Ugly Guy) any Hostile alien.
Bursting - Physical: Dealing with a large predator by
waiting until it opens its mouth and then feeding it a live grenade or thermal
detonator.
Conceptual: Entering a known enemy trap with much more firepower
than the trap can handle, or using an enemy's offensive action as an opportunity
to do him harm.
Busted Vac Suit - Blown cover.
Busy - Stormtrooper. Used in conjunction with an adjective to describe how busy. "It's getting very busy here," might describe a squad of 8 stormtroopers.
Can't - A tank (deliberate misspelling)
Cat - A member of any feline-evolved species (not that anyone referred to in this way would necessarily appreciate it)
CB - Cybernetic Bronchitis. An old nickname for Darth Vader.
Ceiling - Planetary shield coverage (tank crewers appreciate the ceiling).
Chicken - Any Imperial operation or personnel.
Chorus Girl - An Imperial AT-ST Walker
Cold - Also chilly, frosty. refers to a trooper's ability to remain calm under fire.
Commando - Generic term for SpecForce troopers, usually only used by non-Specs.
Cool Drop - An insertion, typically by para-sail or paraglider, into a relatively safe area.
Coop - A lot of chickens huddled together.
Cuddly - Incredibly dangerous
Cute - Extremely dangerous
Dead Men - Infantry term for armored vehicle crew.
Defenestrate - To throw a person out of a window (look it up in Webster's Dictionary).
Delimit - A Wookiee attacking in hand-to-hand combat. Any hand-to-hand combat attack by a very strong opponent. This word is believed to be a corruption of "De-limb it."
Difficult - Easy
Dobbin - Imperial AT-AT Walker
Drink Vouchers - Credits, money, moolah, cash, etc.
Drop - Also paradrop. Dropped troops typically land in a pre-selected drop zone (DZ)
Duck - Any undercover Imperial operative that is trying not to look like an undercover Imperial operative.
Dumb Orphan - Orphan with valuable information
Easy - Difficult

Entertainment - Combat
ETLA - Extended Three Letter Acronym. A four letter acronym. See TLA
Fanboys - General term for military hovercraft crew.
Father - Alliance Intelligence.
Fatigue Scanning - Looking for the weak spots in a system or organization.
Fear Gland - Self preservation instinct. Considered a bad quality in Special Ops.
Field Promotion - Refers to rank advancement given to troops in the field for acts of skill or bravery; is also slang for "killed in action," typically in a successful mission (from the High Command habit of promoting and commending fallen troopers).
Field Thorns - Mines (also called Burrs).
Fire Magnet - Infantry term for any armored vehicle, but especially repulsortanks. most infantry are uneasy around tanks and armored personnel carriers.
Firework - Anything containing a reasonably large fusion reactor.
Fish - Fish.
Fish - Mon Calamari (or any other aquatic species).
Fish - Trouble (the meaning of "Fish" obviously depends on the context).
Frac - Fraction of a credit, particularly any non-Imperial currency unit
Fracs'n'Blacks - Large quantity of money in all denominations
Frag - Fragmentation grenade, as in "Frag 'em!"
Gander - Grenade
GBH - Gross Bounty Hunter (ie; Boba Fett, Dengar, or any other well- known bounty hunter with a deserved reputation)
Grease - Funding for bribes
Grease the Servos - Funding for bribes
Greenhorn - A new Rebel soldier who's way too eager for combat.
Greenie - Rodian
Gray Man - Imperial Intelligence Agent
Gronk - Any species capable of generating a particularly loud cry/alarm call. As in "Gronk!"
Gruff - Any canine appearing species.
GS (Groundshaker) - Imperial AT-AT Walker
GUB - Great Uncle Boba, refers to Boba Fett (as in "That bounty hunter is out to impress his GUB.").
Hammerheads - Ithorians
Hardpoint - Also Strongpoint. A fortified enemy emplacement or other well-defended target.
Headhunting - Physically locating an enemy's "head" or main nerve center with a view to destroying it.
Headshot - Any single operation that renders the rest of an enemy's operations useless.
High-Altitude - Undercover.
High Drop - Deploying troops from orbit
Hijack - Con, bribe, trick, order or otherwise persuade a complete stranger to render assistance in some task.
Hitching a Ride - Using someone else's intelligence network or facilities, usually without their knowledge or permission.
Hot Drop - Landing in a dangerous area, typically one patrolled or while under fire.
HSS - (High Speed Surgery) Disabling an armored vehicle or starship by cutting a hole in its hull and inserting a grenade or thermal detonator into the gap.
Interesting - Very dangerous
Invite - (or Invitation) an explosive device
Jack - Anyone, as in "Hi Jack," said to a complete stranger.
Jobber - Assassin.
KIA - Killed In Action
Knocking on the Roof - Orbital bombardment on planetary shielding (something tankers worry about).
KSA - Kinky Silver Armor. An Imperial Radiation Trooper.
Leech - A spook with 'acquisitions' skills (security, etc).
Less Boring - Dead. See Boring
Lightly Tronned - A tron where the vehicle crew survives. See Tron
Lightfoot - Armor term for infantry attached to repulsortank units.
Livestock - Assorted weapons, explosives and heavy artillery.
Long Arm of the Empire - Artillery fire.
Lullaby - Suicide pill.
Mildly - (Adjective) Extremely.
Million Shot - A "very easy" mission. "It's a million to one chance, but it might just work."
Mindspook - A Special Operations agent with enhanced mental powers, usually a Force-sensitive agent.
Mother - Case officer.
Mud Foot - 1. SpecForce derogatory term for inexperienced Alliance
Infantry.
2. Imperial armor crew term for infantry attached to walker units.
Nature Lovers - SpecForce Wilderness troopers
Noxious - Imperial security. As in, "They might have known we were coming. It's noxious here."
NRU - Nice Red Uniform, an Imperial Royal Guardsman.
One Percenter - Mission carrying a 1% survival chance. A "standard" mission.
Orphan - To disband a network (thereby "orphaning" agents in the field).
Pacify - To kill.
Penned Orphan - Orphan captured by the Empire.
Plastic Soldier - Stormtrooper (also toy soldier and whitehat)

Puppetmen - Imperial special mission troops, term derived from their use in political-gain operations to frame "Rebel terrorists" for carefully calculated atrocities. SpecForce troops utterly despise ISM personnel.
Pyroman - Also boomer. A deomolitions expert.
Raisin-head - A greenhorn who's seen too many war holovids.
Recovering Spook - A Mission Group agent attached to a SpecForce unit.
Red Carpet - Large quantity of explosive devices.
Rocket Jockeys - Starfighter pilots; SpecForce troops cheerfully despise the arrogant and (they believe) better-treated starfighter pilots.
Rocket Riders - Imperial armor crew term for speeder bike-mounted troops, especially scout troopers.
Salting the Ether - Generating spurious plans for non-existent missions and broadcasting them in tight code in spare bandwidths to keep Imperial Intelligence's Analysis Bureau from getting bored.
Sand Banthas - SpecForce Desert Wilderness troopers
Sandman - Imperial sandtrooper
Scanner - Sensor specialist. Not to be confused with type of sensor.
Scanner - Type of sensor.
Scoping - Estimating resources needed for an operation. Or, depending on context, maintaining surveillance on members of the opposite sex.
Scrip - Corporate or planetary currency
Season Ticket - Several explosive devices.
Severely Tronned - Where practically nothing survives. See Tron.
Shadowmen - Also black-hats, shadows. Imperial storm commandos.
Shuttling Your Dead - Refers to the SpecForce practice of recovering the bodies of fallen comrades before evacuating an area.
SideThink - Peculiar Special Ops mindset, blending opportunism, careful planning and lethal efficiency with a healthy dose of mindless recklessness and pure cockiness.
Slap - An artillery barrage. A "light slap" is a light barrage, a "hard slap" is a heavy barrage. Artillery crews have numerous other terms along the same vein.
Slimebottom - Hutt.
Slug - Hutt.
Smart Orphan - Orphan without any particularly valuable information.
Smelly - Imperial security. See noxious.
Smokers - Smoke grenades.
Snowman - Imperial snowtrooper.
Special - 1. Generic military term for anything unusual, as in
special weapons, special missions, Special Operations, special situations, or
special agents. Bland and non-descriptive, the term has become almost
meaningless.
2. Non-descriptive term used to describe anything odd or suspicious.
"What a special honor."
Special Forces - 1. Any elite military unit assigned to
difficult missions; small caps when used generically, as in "Imperial
special forces."
2. An Alliance military branch primarily dedicated to hit-and-fade
operations; capitalized as the name of a main military branch.
SpecTroops - General term for Alliance Special Forces troopers
Specter - A Special Forces trooper assigned to Special Operations.
Spook - Alliance SpecOps agent. Also spooky when referring to SpecOps attitudes or missions.
Squawker - Any flying species.
Squid - Quarren
Squid Head - Quarren
SS - (Skywalker Surprise) Mission carrying a 0.1% survival chance. An "interesting challenge."
Stand-back - General term for artillery crew.
Star Birds in the Rafters - Starfighters inside the planetary shield coverage (something tankers dread)
Star Destroyer - 174,000 design flaws waiting to be exploited. (As in, "That garrison's defenses are just like a star destroyer.")
Superspook - Alliance Free Agent.
Sweet - Cute and Cuddly.
TAD - A thermal detonator, as in "Add a TAD to fix that Imperial squad."
Takeoff - Eliminating prime weapons, while leaving the heart of an objective intact. For example, destroying a defensive ion cannon while leaving a power plant intact, or downing the bodyguards of a powerful but unarmed crimelord.
TAM - Threatening Armored Man. An Imperial storm commando.
Target - Starfighter pilot's and orbital gunner's term for any armored vehicle. A heavy tank is considered a "slow target," an AT-AT is a "slow easy target," and a speeder or light tank is a "fast target."
Tauntauns - SpecForce Arctic Wilderness troopers.
Ten Percenter - Mission carrying a 10% survival chance. An "easy" mission.
TEPM - (Thermal Exhaust Port Mission) Mission carrying a 0.1% survival chance; an "interesting challenge."
Thinking Sideways - A compliment.
Thousand Shot - Mission carrying a 0.1% survival chance. An "interesting challenge."
Tinfish - Imperial seatrooper.
Tinfish Bucket - Imperial AT-AT Swimmer.
Tiny Tanks - Imperial armor crew term for stormtroopers.
TK - Sniper; refers to telekinesis, from the sniper's ability to reach out and "touch" a target at long range.
TLA - Three Letter Acronym.
Townies - SpecForce Urban Combat Specialists.
Toxic - Infiltrated by Imperial Intelligence agents.
Toy - Melee or heavy weapon.
Trawling - Out looking for "fish." See fish.
Treadfoot - General armor crew term for infantry.
TrekSpecs - Pathfinders; troops that specialize in mapping and exploring dangerous combat areas prior to invasion.
Tron - To cause an opposing vehicle to suffer a "spectacularly debilitating irreversible maneuvering capability deficit," or crash. "That's tronned it."
UCT - (Universal Cutting Tool) A lightsaber.
Useless - Imperial officers, especially ranking rear echelon officers.
Vaccinate - To remove known Imperial agents.
Vacheads - SpaceOps troopers; to their faces, the name comes from their operational environment; behind their backs, the name refers to their harshness and reputed lack of intelligence. They do not respond well to the term.
Vacuum - Deep undercover.
Vape Bait - See Blaster Magnet.
Vapor Op - A hopeless plan, of the type produced by greenhorns, laser-brains, and raisin-heads.
Very Dumb Orphan - Orphan who "knows too much" and must either be rescued, silenced, or discredited in some way.
Wake-up Call - Grenade.
Wannabies - Repulsor-crew term for hovercraft.
Whiskers - Accumulated experience, as in "He's got long whiskers when it comes to combat." Sometimes a literal description as SpecTroop human males often wear beards.
Wookiees - SpecForce Forest Wilderness troopers
Wotshisname - Practically anything or anyone, mainly depending on context. As in "Tell wotshisname to get up here with that grenade!"

Wraiths - Also ghosts, shadows. SpecForce Infiltrators.
