Marrina was a member of the race known as the Plodex. They would conquer a planet by sending out a ship that once landed would attratc the most advanced species on that planet. The Plodex eggs would use bond with this DNA and then overun the planet. Fortunately for Earth the ship Marrina was on crashed and only two of these eegs survived, one being Marrina. Her egg however stayed hidden in the Atlantic for over forty thousand years until discovered by a fisherman from Newfoundland. His name was Thomas Smallwood and when he showed it to his wife Gladys she opened it. Inside the egg had combined the Human DNA with that of some aquatic animals and the amphibious human female known as Marrina was born. Her caring nature led to her being accepted by the people living in her small town home but when she was 16 she began exhibiting superhuman traits. When her family had the phenomenon checked out she was discovered by James Hudson and inducted into Department H. When the department was disbaned she was a member of Beta Flight just about to graduate to Alpha like Puck.
Her Plodex heritage was revealed to her when the Master of the World summoned all the Plodex through their ship. When she responded she was captured and the Master revealed her origin to her. WHen she was rescued she met Namor, the Sub-Mariner and went with him to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis where she fell in love with him. When she came in contact with the other Plodex on Earth she became savage and fled into self imposed exile. She was then hunted by evil Atlanteans wanting to shame Namor. Her former teamates as well as the Avengers came to her assistance and as she returned to normal she married Namor. When she became pregnant her Plodex nature took over and the Sub-Mariner was forced to kill his own wife.
It has been hinted at that Marrina is not actually dead but actually sleeping a false death under the sea by Llan the Sorceror and may yet return to the Marvel Universe alive and well because as we all know no good Alphan stays dead long.
