Failure- An Alternate Ending to Return of the Jedi By: Jacen Solo jacen__solo@hotmail.com I do not claim ownership to any of the names or items in this story, all rights belong George Lucas and the genius' at Lucasfilm who I wish long life, prosperity, and.. oh yeah, just keep on making Star Wars movies. "The shields are down," exclaimed Admiral Ackbar," all fighters commence the attack on the Death Star!" "Red Wing, Gold Wing, Green Wing, Gray Wing, all fighters follow me!" Commanded Lando Calrissian, then, turning towards his Sullustan copilot, Nien Nunb, exclaimed,"I told you they'd do it!" Referring to Han and the Rebel commandoes mission to destroy the Death Star II's shield generator on the forest moon of Endor. "Nub, nub," his apprehensive copilot agreed. As the remaining 6 fighters shot into the conduit that led to the reactor core, a squadron of 3 TIE Interceptors and 3 TIE Fighters chased them in with their guns-a-blazing. A wild shot from one of the TIE Interceptors hit one of the X-Wings, which bounced off a pipe and slammed into a Y-Wing, utterly destroying both craft. The TIE Interceptor pilot, supremely confident in his own ability, didn't see the construction crane until it was too late. Wedge Antilles looked through the back viewport just in time to see a TIE Fighter barrelling down on him. The TIE Fighter's first 3 shots were wide, but the fourth shot hit his third engine and short-circuited his first and fourth engines. Wedge knew he was going to die, but he was set on taking a few of those TIE's with him. So he cut all power to his remaining engine and suddenly the TIE Fighter behind him was chasing a stationary target! In an act of desperation the pilot tried to pull up, and almost made it, but, in pulling up, the TIE pilot pulled straight up into a pipe. He ricocheted of the pipe and slammed into a TIE Interceptor, destroying both of them. The brilliant flash of the explosion was the last thing Wedge saw before his X-Wing hit the bottom of the conduit. Lando was getting nervous, there were 3 TIE's chasing the Falcon and Tycho Celchu's A-Wing. "Tycho, head back to the surface and see if you can draw some of those TIE's after you," he commanded. Tycho pulled and followed a smaller tunnel to the surface and the two TIE Fighters peeled off to follow him. The Falcon shot into the reactor chamber followed closely by the remaining TIE Fighter. Lando's crew was already starting to celebrate, until Lando snapped at them,"We're not outta this yet, now strap in and get ready for a bumpy ride!" Beneath his grumpy demeanour, Lando was starting to relax, the TIE was not yet in firing range and they were about to destroy the main reactor with torpedoes. He didn't have much chance of missing, but he fired two torpedoes, just to be on the safe side. To his surprise and extreme dismay, impenetrable energy shields had popped up around the reactor, absorbing the energy of the blast. Because the Falcon had been rapidly approaching the reactor, Lando was unable to pull up before the Falcon slammed into the shield protecting the reactor. Lando's last words before impact were directed towards the Bothan spies who had obtained the Death Star II's schematics for the Rebel Alliance. "Stupid idiots," he mumbled, before the Millenium Falcon ceased to exist. With the destruction of the Rebel fighters, the Rebel fleet was forced to retreat to a hidden world called Haloth (known to us as Alpha Centauri) to escape the near-invincible Imperial fleet, led by Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, who had fallen to the Dark Side after turning on and killing the Emperor in his dark rage. The strike team on Endor recruited some of the Imperials who had defected and exiled the others into the forest to eke out a living. They armed the Ewoks with energy weapons in exchange for their help in modifying the Tyderian to carry the new Rebels and two Ewoks who had decided to join the Alliance, Wicket W. Warwick and Teebo. They wandered the galaxy for months until they came upon a small Rebel transit point on Ord Mantell used to as a stopover point for stragglers on their way to Haloth. Meanwhile Luke and Vader scour the galaxy for the Rebel fleet, destroying everything in their way, including Calamari and Chandrila, the homeworlds of the two leaders of the Alliance, Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma. Unknowingly, they are getting closer everyday..... TO BE CONTINUED......
