That happen right in forth of his face, with cause the depth of many people on that ship that he called friends, which made him the only survivor of this ship, which is still carry the guilt and the pain of what happen to him. Despite the fact that he was an ensign when it happen to him. He was saved from dying through the help of Galen, a technomage that took him to nearest Earth Alliance outpost. There he told what happen to the ship that it was destroyed by an unknown ship and he was saved by another unknown ship that was piloted by a human. His commanders didn't believe his story and told him that the ship was destroyed when her jump engines failed. This was done because it happen when President Clark was in office and he wanted to clear this issue up as fast and as neat as they could do it. That had made him set a mandate that he would never leave a person behind and would never leave a distress call unanswered for he never wants a person to experience what he went through.

A couple of years after that, maybe when he was a Lieutenant that was on the edge of being promoted again he reviced a mystical thing that was called an "Applypose Box" through the poker game that he still has to this day. After the former owner give it to him, he died when a skimmer ran him over, despite that he still took the thing. This thing help him rise through the rank like a wildfire up the rank of captain.

When he was a captain Earth Force put him on an Explorer-class and that could be when he meet up with Lieutenant John Matterson and became close friends with him despite the fact that he was a telepath. It unknown why they did this to, it could be the fact that he has more battles than most captains have in a war.

He received the command of the Excalibur on Mars, after he went to Earth and saw the destruction of the ships that happen at the hands of the Drakh fleet. In that time he went up with his head of the medical staff, a civilian, Doctor Shara Chambers, and made the choice for first officer that was Lieutenant John Matterson. Then he pick Dureena Nafel despite that she was a thief , because of she had told him, that she could get into a place and that what their mission was going to be like they would need a person like her to help them. Was told by Sheridan to go to all of the dead worlds no matter where they are and take any type of help no matter where it comes from.

It is unknown when this happen, but before he received the command of the ship, he had a meeting with the many of the aliens ambassadors that were from the Non-Aligned worlds talking about him and what his mission would be like. That it would take them through their space, a thing that they didn't like to happen especially with the person that Captain Gideon is like. They only way that they would of done that, is that the on the last year that Earth had before the virus would become that he would go to Earth and shot down any ship that would try to break the blockage that would be on Earth. Wanting to have the right, Gideon made the deal, but he is the only one who knows about this, despite the displeasure of the some of the people that were from Earth Force.

He doing that he found a virus shield for the Drakh Virus and he also used his ship as the test bed to find the base line for the Drakh Virus, he found that the virus was an intelligent one, that was from nato base tech..

Disposition: Dose not give his trust away just simply because a person a tell him to trust that person and the people that he trust the least are outsiders or people that are new to him. To add on the depth of him is that his is a power hungry person and love the used of the power when he dose get it. He is very protected of his crew and his ship, he is a "hands on" captain. He won't put his crew at risk unlike some other captains won't do. He cares about his crew and makes some attempts to get to know them. He is a soft spoken captain and most of the time he is hinds what he thinks, this make his a dangerous person. For when he dose go off most of the time it is exposited and he dose not go on a set paten making him unpredictable that is both a disadvantage and an advantage.
