By Andy Griggs ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Review: after a long an exhausting day, John and Kerry finally went on A date! I mean a real one, out of the house even! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I like blue eyes, hers are green Not like the woman of my dreams And her hair's not quite As long as I had planned ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ John and Kerry left the movie theater, and threaded their way through their fellow moviegoers towards John's jeep. "All I'm saying is there was no plot," Kerry stated. "Just admit it, you just wanted to see that movie because of all the male testosterone in it, and of course the hero's chick." "Well, at least I went to see it for reasons other than to stare at Tom Cruise," John retorted. Kerry was so pretty tonight, he thought to himself. "I may have been there just to see Tom Cruise, but at least I was up front about it," she told him. John grabbed her arm, and moved them slightly away as a crowd of people pushed past them. She loved the feel of his arms, they were so strong, she thought randomly. They waited a few minutes for the foot traffic to pass before continuing on their way. 'So do we have a plan, yet?" Kerry asked him cheerfully. "I mean, where to next?" John looked at her teasingly for several moment, "I thought we'd just drive around randomly for a few hours. " He ducked when Kerry mock hit him in the arm. "You had better be kidding!" John considered the question carefully for a few moments. He thought of all the places he had brought dates before, but none of them seemed to fit Kerry. Not that any of them were radical or different, he just wanted tonight to be special. Kerry watched him silently contemplating. It was at that moment she realized that if they were going to do anything at all tonight she was going to have to make a decision. She would have liked to go to a blues bar or some such place, but since they had left the hospital and went straight to the movies she hardly dressed for there. 'That left only a few options,' she thought to herself. "Follow me, I know the perfect place," she told him suddenly. "I thought I was supposed to think of something." John pretended to complain, but he was secretly relieved of the burden of deciding. Kerry laughed at him openly. "You take to long!" she told him, admiring his strong physique. "Am I going to like it?" John asked her seriously, thinking how pretty she was when her hair got tousled in the wind like that. "No, of course not," she replied, openly laughing by now. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 15 minutes later. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Five foot three isn't tall She's not the girl I pictured at all And those paint by number fantasies I've had ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "Is this it?" John asked her, surprised at her choice of places. Kerry just smiled at him. She wondered what John would say if she asked him to forget what they were doing now, and just go home and make love? I'd probably scare him away, she thought, then smiled at his question. "Trust me!" John smiled at her, and retorted, "Only if I have to!" "Be nice!" Kerry told him. "How nice?" John asked her, smiling slightly, watching as a lock of her hair momentarily moved into her eyes. He wished he could just kiss her there, but Kerry being such a private person and all, would probably object. Kerry smiled back at him. "Very." John shook his head at her, then opened the door to the establishment. He walked up to the teller window. "2 please," he said quietly. Kerry watched John as he did the business part of the transaction. She was getting a little irritated with the attendant. The woman behind the counter was doing everything but giving him her telephone number. She watched as the woman smiled and flirted to get John's attention. 'His good looks always did attract a bit of fascination from the average woman'. She mentally wondered if she would be put away if she killed the attendant. Some women were so rude. She glared balefully at the woman. She could beat her to death with her crutch, but it would be a bit hard to claim self defense in court. She glanced up at John when she realized that he had asked her a question. "I think maybe the blue one?" she told him. He smiled at her, and turned back. "That will be, one blue and one green," John told the attendant, as he handed her some money. Then he turned his attention to Kerry. "Are you sure this is what you really want?" he smiled at her. Kerry nodded slightly, a smile of her own lighting up her face. "Ok then, it's fair game to warn you ahead of time. You are in so much trouble!" he told her as ushered her out the door. Kerry smile deviously at him. "We'll see! You don't want to bet on the outcome ahead of time, do you?" "Fat chance, I'm already committed to painting your living room. I don't want to get conned into doing something like cleaning the gutters." Kerry laughed slightly then got a tighter grip with her crutch and at pushed open the door. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 20 minutes later ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ So it took me by complete surprise When my heart got lost in those deep green eyes She's not at all what I was looking for She's more ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "I'm going to sit down for a bit!" Kerry told John. "What tired? You only had a what? A full day at County, a few dozen weird sick and/or deranged patients bouncing around at work, and now out you're tired?" Kerry pretended to glare at him. She was tired and if she wanted to sit down she was going to! She strode over to the nearest bench. She sat down and leaned her crutch against the bench. It was so quiet here, she thought. She tilted her head back slightly to watch the sky - 'as much as she was able to with all the artificial lights on, that is,' she thought to herself. John sat next to her and pulled her in his strong arms. If they were going to rest, he was at least going to enjoy it. He smiled when Kerry unconsciously snuggled closer to him. She felt so good. He wondered what was going through her mind. He hoped she wasn't thinking of her ex. That would surely put a damper on the whole evening, he thought. Kerry asked him suddenly: "What's your favorite flavor of ice-cream?" John chuckled slightly. "Chocolate, chocolate chip. And yours?" He had a feeling he knew what was coming next. "Butter Pecan," she told him. John continued, "I suppose since we are sitting so close the the refreshment stand you want me to go get some." Kerry smiled sweetly at him. "Well, since you suggested it." John just shook his head. He got up to go when a random thought struck him; he then glared at her quite fiercely. "NO Cheating!" He pointed to the small white object in a distance. "I know exactly where that is, and I expect to see it there when I get back!" Kerry mock glared back. "*I* have no intentions of moving!" She pretended to be upset over his remarks. John just shook his head at her and gave her a warning glance. "I'm serious, it had better not move!" Which just made Kerry frown even more at him. As soon as his head was turned she pinched her arm to make sure she didn't laugh out loud, she had no intentions of moving anything as she knew who was keeping score! She looked back down to the piece of paper in her hand, then to the object in the distance. She returned her glance to John, who continued to look over his shoulder as if expecting her to be a bit duplicitous. As soon as he turned his attention back to the attendant, she quickly added few marks on the paper she held. 'And I didn't move a thing!' she thought to herself. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ A while later ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ No, it wasn't at first sight But the moment I looked twice I saw the woman I was born to love Her laughter held my soul And when I hold her I don't want to let go When it comes to her I can't get enough ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "I can't believe you won!" John whined, as they were walking towards his jeep. "I mean I got it through the windmill and everything. I was sure I was ahead then." He watched her when he saw her look almost but not quite guilty. He had a sudden suspicion. "Let me see that paper!" John told her. He made a grab for her paper, which she clutched even harder, then promptly, put it behind her back. John wrestled with her to get the paper away. Kerry backed away faster then he had planned and bumped into the jeep. She laughed at him, still twisting away trying to dump the paper before he could see the score. John faked a left then went right, which wasn't what Kerry was expecting. John's strong arms neatly caught her. He prised the paper out of her hand and stared at it for a moment or three. "Hey that's not what I got on the 8th hole! he told her. "Only you would cheat at miniature golf, Kerry." She smiled at him, then wrapped her arms around his neck. "I wasn't cheating, I was..." her mind searched for the proper word. "I was creatively score keeping, and for person who's claiming to be so shocked, you don't seem as excited as you're supposed to be." John laughed and kissed her suddenly, savoring the moment. "Where to now?" He hesitated to ask, when they parted. He wasn't really looking forward for the evening to end. Kerry smiled up at him. She had no idea, she just knew she didn't want to go home and be alone. "Coffee?" she asked him softly. "That sounds like a good idea," John said quietly, gently pushing her slightly towards the Jeep. "Let's go." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The Little Coffee Shop on the corner ~*~*~*~ 2 pieces of pecan pie and a couple cups of decaffeinated coffee later. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ So it took me by complete surprise When my heart got lost in those deep green eyes She's not at all what I was looking for She's more ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "So, can you name any girlfriend in the past who wasn't a blonde?" Kerry asked him mirthlessly. John grimaced slightly. He knew there was one, he just had to think. Unfortunately it was late, he was tired and he was drawing a mental blank. He just knew he would remember the name, phone number and physical address of every girl he had ever dated who wasn't a blonde at 3:00 am. Finally he just glared at Kerry. "I'm declining to answer that question, on the grounds that, I'm tired and can't think straight." Kerry laughed back at him. "Just admit it, you usually go for blondes." John leaned back against the booth. "I do not. I go for redheads, you just never noticed before!" he informed her laughingly. "How did we get into this conversation anyway?" Kerry smiled slightly and nodded her head towards the waitress, a buxom blonde with an hair down to her waist. "Lady Godiva there was eyeing you. Remember?" she laughed at him. They both looked over at the waitress who was impatiently waiting for them to leave. She was tired, the young man in the corner might be cute, but at this point in the night all she wanted to do was go home and sleep. Those two, however, looked like they had no intentions of leaving, she sighed to herself and started cleaning the already spotless counter. John laughed slightly. "I think she just wants us to leave," he whispered to her across the table. "Yes, I think so too. Unfortunately it's getting late and we have to work tomorrow," Kerry whispered back. They were both reluctant to leave, neither one wanted this evening to end. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 20 minutes later, at Kerry's house ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ More than I dreamed of More than any man deserves I couldn't ask for more Than a love like hers ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ John waited as Kerry got out her key and fumbled with the door lock. He really didn't want to leave. Kerry unlocked the door, and found the hallway light. She paused for a second. "If I invited you in for coffee would you really drink it?" Kerry asked him suddenly. John remembered the amount of coffee he had already drank tonight, sure that there was no way he could drink another cup. But this was Kerry, his brain told him. "Um, maybe just one cup," he told her, half-joking. Kerry just smiled: coffee was definitely not on her mind at all. She closed the door firmly behind him and kissed him. Her intentions quite clear to both of them. "Let's just forget the coffee!" she said softly. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ So it took me by complete surprise When my heart got lost in those deep green eyes She's not at all what I was looking for She's more ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ![]() |
