Leaving the pack on a cold winter's night
With the stars in the sky
And the moon high above the ground
He looked for a place to sleep forever
Hungry, tired, and the stress from old age
The great leader laid down in the snow
He started to remember his younger years
The years he was leader of the pack
Remembering the times new pups were born
Great hunts in the thick green forest
The challenges made by the other males
And even his run-ins with mankind
Now that his time on this world was over
He put his nose to the air
And smell the great forest
Smelling the pleasures it gave him in his life
He laid down his head in the frozen snow
And let his mind wonder
The great tiredness so strong
So he closed his eyes and welcomed it
