PSI Factor is in essense the real X Files. It is basically a dramatization of actual paranormal cases from the the world's premier paranormal investigation organization: The Office of Scientific Investigation and Research (O.S.I.R.). It is an hour long show hosted by Dan Akroyd. Each week, a case from O.S.I.R. is presented in a story -like manner.
The reason why this show is superior to other shows of this nature like Sightings, or Unsolved Mysteries, is that O.S.I.R. doesn't absolutely accept or deny the existance of the paranormal. They approach the investigation of the phonemena purely scientifically, as it should be. They simply accept that there is a definate possiblity that the paranormal could exist. And that is why the show is so good. After an episode of Psi Factor you may find out that the "paranormal phonemenon" had a logical explanation about it. (for example, a young boy thought he was seeing a demon in the kitchen in the dark on a semi regular basis. It turned out that it was a neighbors escaped python). However, an equal number of the episodes are left as unexplained phonemenon...not necessarily deemed as definite paranormal activity...but left as unexplained.
This is parapsychology for the logical person. I personally find it difficult not to accept the fact that there is paranormal existances and that people do come in contact with these phonomena (in fact I think its quite egotistical to completely dismiss that possibility). However, I can't say that I believe every Tom, Dick, and Harry who thought they saw a UFO land in their corn field somewhere betwen the times of Hee Haw and Jeopardy. And that is why Psi Factor is such a wonderful show. It shows as many hoaxes as legitimite phonomena and does so in a very scientific manner. This not only makes for a much more interesting show (because your waiting to see if indeed the paranormal event is "real" or not) but it aso increases the believability of the show tenfold.
