Been a while, but I've still got a number of Trek personnel to go through, don't I? Almost wanted to wait for the DS9 expansion before continuing... but then I don't know how long I'd have to wait. So here it is: the latest in a long line of "-oids" - somehow skewed versions of bridge crew members who might or might not make it as future Personae or AU cards in our game's future. Up next: Miss Symbiont 2372. And take note: I haven't included EVERY host, only the ones that have been seen.
DAXOIDS
-Jadzia Dax: Not an -oid, obviously, but a character that begs the question - how are symbionts going to be handled? Kareel Odan doesn't give us a single clue unfortunately, so let's start from scratch. One possibility, symbionts will be featured on seperate cards and transferrable from host to host. Well... while I'm sure we'll have cards that DO transfer worms from one host to another (à la Invasive Procedures), I don't think hosts and symbionts will be on separate cards. For one thing, playing Dax (or any joined Trill) would mean acquiring and stacking 2 rare cards. Not a very viable play option in my humble opinion. So I'm opting for one-card joined Trill (like Odan) throughout this article. Maybe some skills could be attributed to the symbiont, loss of which would mean loss of those skills. Our normal Dax for her part should have science skills up the wazoo. No special abilities come to mind.
-Curzon Dax: The older, rowdier Curzon would probably give bonuses to Sisko and be a hevaily diplomatic card. Guramba would be nice. His Cybernetics-like ability to report and discard unjoined Trill could be useful. (I'm basing this on his flushing out and reacceptance of Jadzia in "the program".)
-Verad Dax: From "Invasive Procedures". Non-Aligned rather than a Fed, this guy would probably make it as an unjoined Trill who could "steal" symbionts at his location, or as a result of winning a personnel battle (which would be more balanced). I was thinking that maybe he could still from any joined captive, but capturing personnel isn't specific enough (yet) to make this a viable strategy.
-Joran Dax: Sure he's a Siskoid, but we also saw him on camera as Dax. Another dangerous Non-Aligned Trill with a built-in Nemesis function to any other Trill perhaps. As much a victim as a killer. Oh, and he's got Music as a skill. (Big whoop!) ;-) And how about a symbiont countdown to go witht he short duration of his joining?
-Mirror Dax: Aside from being real friendly with Sisko (can't believe he took advantage like that!), she's pretty much Dax without the scruples (read: Integrity). I'm wondering if there are going to be Mirror missions at all... They'd all recquire Treachery in some measure, of course, but your Romulans would have to go "through the looking-glass" to get to them. Can't wait to find out what they'll do with this facet of Trek lore.
-Dax from "Children of the Past": The AU Dax who is his own descendent (um... yeah, that's it). Is the Defiant Colony a Time Location? He would be native to it of course, and might try to prevent whatever timeline disruption would be possible here. Or alternately, allow for duplication of a ship(?) at a time location, one which can't leave the TL.
-Tiny Dax: Like tiny O'Brien and Tiny Bashir, Dax was shrunk in "One Little Ship". More at Bashiroids. Not a big future.
-Honey Bare: The beautiful SCIENtist from Bashir's 007 simulation would make an acceptable holo-persona (don't forget to include Geology). Seems to me, everytime we get a personnel who was basically a love interest in the show, she either boosts a specific male's stats or invalidates a romance-related dilemma. Is this to be another one? I'm kinda sick of it.
-Jadzia's missing pieces: From "Facets". These Dax hosts were parceled out to different cast members during the splicing ritual. You can find these Daxoids under each of the cast's -oids. Tobin at O'Brien, Curzon at Odo, etc.
-SF magazine secretary: For the other "Far Beyond the Stars" Personnel, I imagined writers who could download concepts based on the stories they wrote. Dax, unfortunately, only makes it as a secretary. What to do, what to do? Download padds? Been done. Writers? Endless downloading there. I've got it! She downloads the Fajo bubble gum to any player's mouth!
-Future Dax: From "The Visitor". Dax is older and wiser and still has pull with the Klingons. Not much material here though.
-Klingon Dax: She's been part of too many Klingon away teams and crews to ignore this persona. Klingon/Federation affiliated (so Klingon cards affect her) and maybe skills we didn't see on the DS9 premiere card - music, honor x2, download melee weapons, marry Worf (a skill shared by Troi and Kehl'hr... um... waitamminit). This one's a sure bet down the road. How about making her able to neutralize all disruptors (read: handweapons) on a planet location where present like she did in "Blood Oath"?
-Love bunny: From "If Wishes Were Horses". Let's not make this one and say we did. Sorry Doctor Bashir...
-Dax of the 21st century: From "Past Tense". A CIVILIAN with mucho computer skill. I don't know what she could do, but it'd probably be tied in to the "net" or whatever it was called. In other words, other cards would have to be involved (based on the Time Location).
-Classic Trek Dax: Speaking of Time Locations... Classic Dax was so in love with the look of the old show, she might be given the special ability to either download any classic icon card, or perhaps to reduce staffing of classic ships by one classic icon (hmm, too limited). jSarek proposes Download "And Women Wore Less" (Interrupt: Your [Classic Icon] males are Attributes +2 until end of next turn and you may draw one card for each [Classic Icon] female you have in play. If currently your turn, immediately end it (draw no additional cards).) Cute.
-Dax in Bashir's head: In "Distant Voices", which took place in Bashir's "Mind Location", Jadzia represented his logic and reason. After all this time, I STILL don't know how a Mind Location could work (I'll leave that to the experts), but if characters could be native to them (and perhaps only get out with a special doorway) this Dax would have high Cunning or Cunning boosters and might even make a personnel "count" as a Vulcan for any number of cards (Primitive Culture, Vulcan Lander, Nerve Pinch, etc.)(but also Bendii Syndrome I guess).
-Prophet: As I first mentioned in Sisko's article, the Prophets appear in the shows in the likenesses of all the regular characters. What I would like to see then, are Prophet cards (perhaps attainable through a Wormhole Doorway or contact with an Orb or the new Orb icon) that have effects related to the persona taken. Dax-Prophet would possibly open or curtail de Wormhole (hey, she's always the one to detect tachyon levels or whatever). Anything to do with the "Doors of the Temple", I would put under her jurisdiction.
-Bajoran Dax: In Odo's mind this time, Dax took the identity of a Bajoran girl Dukat was enamored with (don't have the name handy). Dax in Bajoran magenta with some special Cardassian-disabling ability (stop one Cardie present per turn, why not?)
-Vedek Dax: The other Bajoran Dax, this on from one of Kira's visions. She appears as a Vedek so give her whatever religious skills the Bajoran clergy will usually get, plus a big fat Orb icon. Not seen enough to make it as a Personnel, so maybe just an event/interrupt ("Change of Vocation?")
- Captain Dax: Not a real captain, but she did serve that function during the Dominion War. Would Download Phaser Memorial (something not unlike Cochrane Memorial, but played on a warship), but probably won't see the light of day - she's one too many matching commanders for the Defiant.
-Currently Rumored Dax: If ever (and I do say if) this Persona is played on your opponent's Dax, she is immediately and permamently placed out of play. ;-)
So that's it for Daxoids, but I might have missed some since I haven't seen the DS9 episodes as often as the TNGs. Help, comments, additions, humorous comments, all welcome. And thanks again to jSarek for some great suggestions. So until then...
