14th in a series of articles listing the many "-oids" featured on Star Trek, -oids being those somewhat skewed versions of well-known characters, in order to guess at future AU personnel and personnas that might (or more often, probably won't) be featured in the CCG. All this, plus regular versions of the characters since no DS9 characters have been seen yet (save a couple of previews). Next in line: Kira Nerys!
KIROIDS
1-Major Kira (1st year): The perpetually angry Kira of old. At this point, she might not even be Bajoran/Federation (if she ever will be). She's so angry, I'd give her Attack Authorisation against any affiliation. The Bajorans will probably be able to attack Cardies on sight, but what about Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi. They need to get their butts kicked by Kira too!
2-Major Kira (current): As for today's milder non-oid Kira, she exhibits Leadership, SECURITY, OFFICER and Treachery for sure. By my count, leaves room for a special ability (cuz I hope the DS9 bridge crew isn't all regular skills like the old one). Bonuses for being around the Emissary, points for eliminating Cardassian targets, download "Slap Dukat"... anything'll do.
3-Young Kira: Now this Kira, first seen in "Necessary Evil", was the resistance fighter who definitely needs to earn points for dead Cardies. She just wouldn't have it any other way.
4-Colonel Anastasia Komananov: (See "Dr. Noah" in Siskoid #12 for some more details on "Our Man Bashir"'s particularities regarding holograms.) There's a lot to work with here: she's an Officer, probably with a Security background. While I don't see Seduction making it into an essentially PG-rated game, bonus to or from Bashir 007 is a possibility. And download Explosive Earrings a must. An idea for the lore, Decipher: "A better russian accent than Chekov ever had."
5-The Intendent: Mirror Kira is a seriously screwed-up villain, so she HAS to be in the works. Affiliation is either "Mirror" (unlikely in my mind as that represents the Terrans just as well as the Alliance and non-aligneds) or Cardie/Klingon or perhaps still Bajoran (simply "Alliance"?). She's a VIP, commands the Mirror station and Dowloads any male Personnel from opponent's draw deck (as a captive) on a successful probe once per game. Or is that too evil?
6-Pregnant Kira: This is just a cheap way to make Kira an O'Brien for that eventual "Family" card. Chances of getting the card (with picture of Kira sneezing): as close to zero as possible while keeping an open mind.
7-SF writer: I don't remember her name in "Far Beyond the Stars", but like Benny(Sisko), there's not a whole lot to do with a writer beyond giving her the Writing skill. My idea for these guys was to have them "imagine" (download) science fiction concepts related to their characters. Can anyone help me with this? I can't remember what kinds of stories Kira's character wrote. As she had to hide her gender, I'm tempted to have her download female Officers or somehing.
8-Iliana Ghemor: From "Second Skin", when Kira was made-over to look like a Cardassian. We get an interesting double-agent in Iliana (a natural just like Major Rakal, except she's Obsidian Order), Cardassian/Bajoran. At first we might think this rare, but once you factor in all the collaborators, it might not be. She's a Civilian or Security who gives bonuses to dear old dad, and she might be immune to Brainwashing. We'll see, as this one's a sure fire bet.
9-Figment of Bashir's mind: In "Distant Voices", Kira (and others) represents part of Julian's psyche in what I would call a "Mind Location" (see other articles for more). To be more precise, Kira is Bashir's passion/agression/anger (I guess!). As a character (native to that particular mindscape) she probably would jack up the Strength of whoever's mind we were into (if, for example, a mind location were played on a specific personnel - but who knows). This concept still needs work, but I aim to be as complete as possible.
10-Lela Dax: The Dax host parceled out to Kira in "Facets", she's the good mother and a politician. That would make her a VIP with Diplomacy (Kira with Diplomacy?!? - to be fair, "Major Kira (current)" might have this). We don't learn a whole lot more about her.
11-Prophet: Like I mentioned in Sisko's article, the Prophets appear in the shows in the likenesses of the regular characters. What I would like to see, are Prophet cards (perhaps attainable through a Wormhole Doorway or contact with an Orb) that have effects related to the personna taken. For Kira, I imagine a "We are also of Bajor" tagline that might indicate some affiliation-sharing(?)
12-Stone Kira: From "Heart of Stone". A Changeling once took the form of Kira trapped in a lattice of crystal. Now, I plan to discuss Changeling replacements in my next article (Bashiroids) so don't despair. Here, I'll simply say that an immobile Kira would be pretty useless, but she IS the only one who loves Odo. Awwwww.
13-Kiroids I will not talk about: I won't discuss the Kiras from "Move Along Home" (the pawn) or "Dramatis Personae" since there isn't anything to say that I haven't already in article #12. I'm also skipping all the -oids from "Fascination" which isn't much more than a "Naked Now" reprise, worth no more than a dilemma. "Past Tense"'s various "broken nose Kiras", well, there isn't much there to play with. This has been a "complete-for-completeness'-sake" service announcement.
14-Kira the artist: When Kira follows her d'jara in "Accession", she is forced to become an artist rather than a soldier. I can see a "D'jara" card looming on the horizon that will make Personnel shift in classifications, but artsy Kira... no. If she'd been any good, then sure, but as it is...
Let no one hesitate to correct me where I am wrong and add to where I am lacking! That is Siskoid's motto! And on that note...
Siskoid (getting angry... you wouldn't like me when I'm angry)
