A Siskoid by any other name #12

This is it! The second modern Trek series, and my very favorite of them all. The one with actual Siskoids in it: Deep Space Nine. And I thought, why not start the second phase of these articles with the station itself? And before plunging into this particular pool, let me add (for the uninitiated) that these articles look for "-oids", skewed versions of the characters we all know and love that might (and I do mean MIGHT) become AU or Personna cards at some point in the future. Furthermore, since the DS9 expansion has not yet come out, I'll even talk about the non-oid regular versions of the Personnel we haven't seen yet. Ok? Ok. Let's go...

DEEP SPACE NOIDS

1-Deep Space 9: Not an -oid. This is the station as it was for most of the series' run and as I expect it to be in the initial DS9 release. The question on everyone's mind is, of course, what affiliation will it be? Bajoran/Federation seems likely. Is it an Outpost? More likely a Station that could partially work like an Outpost. Will it be able to move? I say no, since it really takes warp drive to move to other mission locations. Will Captain's Log be applicable? If so, it goes to Sisko. Well, we'll find out everything in due time.

2-Terek Nor: As a Cardassian Station (seen in the flashback show, "Necessary Evil", for example), it would work much the same aside from affiliation. (A Station Personna? Why not.) I was even thinking that, due to the essentially Cardassian nature of the Station (the regular version), a Cardie player could seed dilemmas under the Station itself, perhaps set off by reporting Personnel there or whatnot. Dukat potentially gets Captain's Log bonus.

3-Dominion/Cardassian/Bajoran: During the war, this was the three-way alliance using the station. Again, it's pretty much the same aside from the Affiliation(s). Though if Missions could be seeded there, different Missions could apply to its different "Personnas". This version could have "Deactivate Minefield" for example. Captain's Log bonus only if Weyoun and Dukat both there?

4-DS9 later version: Another affiliation possibility - Bajoran/Federation/Klingon, for after the Klingon Task Force takes permanent residence at DS9. This all goes towards reporting personnel and ships, but it might get a Weapons bonus for being so alert during wartime. That kind of thing. Sisko still commands.

5-Mirror DS9: I don't know how the Mirror universe people are going to be represented (just AUs, or, as some have discussed, a mini-affiliation?), but this might as well be Cardassian/Klingon (AU). The Intendent commands.

6-Bashir's Mind: In "Distant Voices", the station becomes a reflection of Bashir's mind when he suffers a powerful mental attack. There's also a "psychic DS9" in Odo's mind ("Things Past"). Could such a Station be played on a character itself? Like a Q's Planet, it gets seeded with dilemmas (all AU) and even characters (also AU). A concept that needs work, I admit, but one worth looking into Decipher!

7-DS9, the drawing: A can't help but mention this one. It's what made "Benny" imagine the station in the Sisko's 1950s fantasy, "Far Beyond the Stars". A couple ways to make a card out of it. As a true Station, it could be a weaker version of the real thing, perhaps with the insensitive (but true-to-the-episode) restriction that no black personnel could report there. (Can you say "PR problems for Decipher?) It could also be a Doorway into and out of the whole fantasy (but how THAT would work is a mystery to me). It would more properly be an Event or Interrupt, one modifies the station's abilities to fit in with 1950s fashion and science, or that AUs it in a particular way. Or, since it is a drawing, "drawing" cards may be just the effect it should have.

8-Forsaken Station: In "The Forsaken", an entity takes control of the station and befriends O'Brien. I couldn't pass up a DS9 with an actual personality. Hey, how about a Personnel card for the station? It can't get on ships, can't really move around, can't attempt missions per se... ok, maybe not. Though the entity could have usable stats as it hindered or helped O'Brien throughout the show (an invisible ENGINEER?).

9-Klingon Station: In "The Visitor", old Jake and gang tell us that the station has been handed over to the Klingons. So another Affiliation change for ol' Terek Nor. Maybe Martok could command (with justification no better or worse than Governor Worf with the Chang).

Ok, I've left out all the DS9s that are really the same as the regular one, even if they appeared in some future or alternate part of existence (hey, I did the same with the Enterprise). So you won't see the ones that get blown up (either in O'Brien's time-jumping or in a Changeling simulation) or whatever. Still, I might have missed something (I just haven't seen these shows as often as TNG). And I won't count Empok Nor, even though it was played by the same "actress" (wink, wink).
