As I run out bridge crew, I am reminded of perhaps the MOST important character in TNG, the ship herself. The Enterprise too has had a number of -oids (Reminder: somehow skewed versions of characters we all know and love) and many of them could make it into cards (and have!) Siskoid thus presents:
ENTERPRISOIDS!
Lets subdivide this whole thing a little differently, shall we? First come all the Enterprises from the films (as good a place to start as any):
-USS Enterprise (refit): I'm not sure how they're going to translate 100-year old technology when the original Enterprise (from Trials and Tribble-ations) comes out, but this ship should logically be a little better than that. And this IS a Ship Personna if I ever saw one. It's a concept that will eventually come, mark my words. (Presently no liscencing agreement.)
-USS Enterprise-A: The ship we followed from the end of "The Voyage Home" onward. This one is slightly better than the original(refit), but how many ships with Tractor Beams can we have before we get bored? (Presently no liscencing agreement.)
-SS Enterprise: This is the aircraft carrier from "The Voyage Home" on which Chekov gets caught by the military. Not a starship, but it could serve as an Event/Interrupt/Dilemma type card. Would have something to do with capturing and be based in a Time Location (the '80s!) (Presently no liscencing agreement.)
-USS Enterprise-B: From Generations. A lot of people have made a dream card of this ship. The cards usually try to fit the idea that a the tractor beam, weapons, etc. won't be installed 'til tuesday (ship has start of game stats that evolve at a certain score, for example). That's all well and fine, but I propose making anyone BUT Harriman the matching commander. Or rather, Kirk gets Captain's Log bonus, but only if Harriman is there to give it to him (geek). (Presently no liscencing agreement.)
-USS Enterprise-D: From the Premiere set. Not an -oid, though we all kinda thought it was when we first saw it in 1987. Admit it.
-holographic Enterprise vessel: From Generations. The ship out to see at the start of the 24th century sequence is indeed named Enterprise. Until there are more rules governing holographic stuff, I can't see this one made. We've got holo-personnel, holo-equipment, but holo-verssels? How would they work? Plus, Trek has no "ground" vehicles, only starships. (Presently no liscencing agreement.)
-USS Enterprise-E: From the First Contact expansion. Not an -oid.
Then come the Enterprises from the shows. (Any of the 4 series will do, I'm not fussy):
-USS Enterprise (original): Like the original(refit) except not as good. Maybe Captain Pike could be matching commander to distinguish the two? We know this one can be made thanks to the DS9 Tribble episode. It can come into being at Time Location space station K-5.
-USS Enterprise-C: The actual "Yesterday's Enterprise". Can be found in the AU expansion.
-Future Enterprise: From "All Good Things...", the Enterprise that will never be. AU expansion also.
-Amazing shrinking Enterprise: From "Remember Me". This is the odd Enterprise from inside the Static Warp Bubble. It can be run by less and less people, until only matching commander Beverly Crusher is left. This is the kind ship you want to be able to "Naked Truth" (if such a ship-related card existed) to the other side, especially if it starts "eating" those darn mega-Away teams.
-Enterprise of Borg: From First Contact. This is the Enterprise-E with all the Borg technology aboard. It's too bad the ship didn't physically change after the Borg takeover (like Voyager did), cuz it would have given us a cool image. There's always CGI I guess. Not much chance of seeing this Borg vessel since a certain Objective can pretty much simulate this (but then, we DO have Locutus).
-Parallel Enterprises: The show "Parallels" gave us a pile of Enterprisoids! Hundreds! Thousands! Any of them interesting? Well, some had Riker as matching commander. One had a totally different configuration at tactical (something to be done with weapons?) Another could be authorized to attack Bajorans. The Borg-beaten one is just good for scavenging... ("all Rogue Borg immediately relocated here?")
-Today's Enterprise from Yesterday's Enterprise: The very military starship that we might indeed see in the upcoming battle expansion. Boost those weapons and shields, why dontcha. Attacks Klingons without a second thought. Yawn.
-Mirror Enterprise: From "Mirror, Mirror", the first Mirror universe show ever. If this were a card, it would do for the original Enterprise what #14 on this here list would do to the E-D.
-Seperated Enterprise-D: Saucer separation has long been a thought in players' minds. How do we translate this hoky feature into the cards? After all, all the Galaxy-class vessels should already be able to do it. So either an Interrupt seps you (somewhat inelegant mechanically), or 2 ship cards are substituted for your Galaxy (ship Personnas again). While this second option is better, it costs you two extra slots in your deck (which is not as disastrous as it used to be admittedly). They'd have to be able to Download each other of course. But... who'd want to run the slower, weaker saucer section?
-Masaka's Enterprise: Our (once) favorite starship turned into an ancient library! Downoad archival Personnas directly to the ship (see other Siskoid articles)! Cool! Low Price! Just forget it!
-Phased Enterprise: From "The Pegasus". Hopefully, the Enterprise with phasing cloak won't be made, and we'll see a USS Pegasus instead. The only reason we haven't of course is that Decipher probably hasn't found a really neat way for the phase cloak to work. Ship can't be attacked? Normal cloaks already have this effect. Goes through asteroid fields? Haven't seen any that hamper movement yet. Anybody got a good idea?
-Empty Enterprise: From the episode where Kirk is stranded inside a COPY of the Enterprise on a grossly overpopulated planet. An Enterprise that can land maybe, but I wouldn't let anyone fly it without a few ENGINEERS aboard to check things out.
-Corbomite-Loaded Enterprise: From "The Corbomite Maneuver". This Enterprise was created from whole cloth by Kirk in order to bluff a dangerous First Federation ship. According to Kirk's design, this Enterprise could be blown up taking everything with it. How's this: the ship Downloads Auto-Destruct Sequence to itself and can use it to blow up itself and everything else at that location with Shields less than... say, 30.
So... did I miss any? I have to admit to my memory being a bit spotty regarding Classic Trek episodes. Any help would be appreciated. Up next: all the other TNG Enterprise inhabitants that appeared on a regular or semi-regular basis. 'Til then,
