#5 in a series of articles dealing with "-oids", or somehow skewed versions of the characters we all know in love, in the hopes of deciphering what might be in store for the future of our game in terms of Personnas and AU personnel. I try to be as complete as possible, even going as far as mentionning "versions" that will never ever see the light of day in the ccg. You'll just have to indulge me. ;-)
As promised in the last article...
WORFOIDS
First are the ones we've seen already:
1-Premiere Worf (not an oid)
2-FC Worf (again, not an oid)
3-Governor Worf: an important part of most Klingon decks and most definitely an oid.
Now you've met the best, here are the rest:
4-Young Worf: I still say I wanna see a set of 1st season bridge crew, complete with out-of-character abilities. Worf is especially different in the first season. He doesn't look the same, sports a red uniform, and acts kinda strangely. STRENGTH would have to go down, maybe even CUNNING. He would possibly be SCIENCE rather than SECURITY (he manned the Sensors console and at times, Ops). Very different indeed.
5-Sheriff Worf: From "A Fistful of Datas", a holographic Personna of the Klingon. Once Dixon Hill is made, we'll have a better idea of what Decipher has in mind for this type of personnel, but for now, downloading holographic handweapons seems the likeliest bet. (Maybe dowload deputy?)
6-Commander Worf: From DS9. Now, we've gotten a Commander Worf in FC that would seem to fit the bill, but the distinct Borg-battling abilities set him apart from what he should be in the DS9 expansion. He'll probably be Fed/Klingon thanks to his service in the Klingon Task Force, and his marriage to Dax might be worth something.
7-Klingon warrior: Worf as a Klingon warrior (from "Redemption"). THIS Worf is Klingon/Fed rather than the opposite (is there a gaming difference? Should there be one?) or entirely Klingon. He would otherwise be a whole lot like Premiere Worf unless he was given a special skill or download. There's a lot of demand for this Worfoid, so expect to see him. Maybe even as soon as the BaH! expansion.
8-Parallel Worf: "Parallels" showed us a variety of Worves. Married, 1st officer, etc. And someone commented it would be pretty hard to remember them all for this article. Ahhh BUT. Since in the show itself, Worf was always the same guy popping into other Worfs' lives, how about a Worf who can do just that? Dimension-hopping Worf could be switched not just with Personnas but with AU versions of himself as well. Maybe he could download these AUs directly to himself! I kinda like this game mechanic.
9-Barash Worf: In Barash's illusion, Worf operated the Ops console and had a huge scar. Again, I don't know what the Barash icon will do, but I'm hoping for a "Naked Truth" type effect where an opponent's bridge crew can be replaced by lesser Personnas when he hits Hologram Ruse. Scarred Worf would be weaker (he looked like he was in really really bad shape!) of course.
10-Duchamps: Another holo-personna for Worf (but from DS9) that would be perfect for sme special ability
regarding stasis perhaps (he puts 00Bashir to sleep).
11-Mirror Worf: Personally, I can't wait to see how Mirror Universe characters are used. There are so many
what with 5 or so Mirror episodes that they might just get a special ruling (a special Doorway probably). This AU Worf was ultra-cool and came with Garak on a leash. Klingon all the way, matching commander of a Voodieh class behemoth, and very very battle-ready. (I also doubt he'll have Honor.)
12-Enterprise Captain: From "The Emissary". In this episode, Worf and Keh'leyr act as if they command a Federation ship in order to fool the crew of the T'ong. We've got so many matching commanders for the Enterprise that this AU-potential personnel doesn't need to be made.
13-From "Apocalypse Rising". Worf disguises himself as another Klingon (sorry I don't have the name). I think making this Klingon personnel would just be needlessly confusing.
14-Will Scarlet: One of the Merry Men from "Qpid". We've already got I Am Not a Merry Man! let's not ask for more.
15-Worf the midwife: From "Disaster", a Worf who could download any present personnel's child (as listed in the lore); Alexander to Keh'leyr, Deanna to Lwaxana, etc. Just Kidding! :-D
16-"Genesis" Worf: The de-evolved Worf is one fearsome creature I'd love to see made. ANIMAL classification, a venom sack that can mortally wound once per turn and a STRENGTH to give Data some competition.
17-Conundrum Worf: I dismissed other Conundrum personnel before, but Worf actually believes himself to be captain for a good while, so he's a bit more different. Not a card though.
18-Worf from "Eye of the Beholder": In Troi's nightmare, Worf betrays her affections with Calloway! Man, this ain't a card!
19-Spacesuited Worf: You know, THIS is what I really wanted out of FC Worf. A personnel who could survive in outer space, maybe even jettison himself out of an exploding ship. Any chance of seeing spacesuits as equipment, Decipher? You could easily ask for them on Dilemma and Mission requirements!
20-"Tribbles" Worf: Worf in 23rd century Klingon gear. I don't know what Tribbles will actually bring to the game, but Worf's distaste for them would make an interesting Restriction Box of special skill.
21-Worf of the House of Martok: Not much of a change, but maybe this could be an Interrupt that counters
Discommendation (but who would need THAT?)
22-Boralan Worf: From "Homeward", the Nick and Worf adventure. The mystical powers attributed to Worf in this episode might make for an interesting skill -perhaps probing that sends you to the another planet. Chance of making it at best remote.
Well, there you have it. We haven't seen the last of Worfoids since DS9 has about a season and half to go, but these will have to do for now. Notice that Worf has more viable -oids than anyone I've done up to now, a real testament to the interest writers have shown in the character. One I haven't mentioned and that I'd love to see on a card someday: Mr. Woof! But it'll never fly... Did I miss any? Please tell me!
