Stuart's parents were homeless and shuffled from city to city trying to get by. When he was old enough, they left him behind in Night City. He lived with the Squats for a while, but he found that the sewers were a better match for his dark mood. Soon, he was a well-recognized member of the Trogs, and with his flat face and odd eyes, recognizing him as Thing was easy. He wandered from sewer system to sewer system, keeping his own council for years. Then, he left.
        No one knows why he went to the Disavowed. He had the respect of the Trogs, and the Disavowed haven't improved standard of living (not that he has asked them to). Some say that he fell in love with the Mistress. One must admit that, as her deputy quartermaster, they spend quite a bit of time together. Also, they have been seen spending most of their free time together, but no one knows for sure that there is anything between them. Others say that he is being blackmailed or otherwise controlled by Bonepart. No one can deny that he spends quite a lot of time with the ex-Rad, but no one can conceive of anyway that Bonepart could blackmail him or have any other type of control over him. As far as anyone knows the Thing's motives are his own and cannot be predicted.
        The Thing is a frightening thing to see. His face is abnormally flat, conjuring up pictures of steamrollers and clumsy surgeons. His eyes, which seem to be yellow, do nothing to bolster one's confidence. Add to all this that he is 6' 6" with a wiry power that lashes out with extreme precision, and you have a disturbing figure. In attitude, he is silent, intense, and a little too calm for the situation. He must know the effect he has on people because he shaves his head (including his eyebrows) and wears dark maroon to raise the terror to another level. Be careful, he is disconcerting, inscrutable, and prepared.
