The Nighthawks
Number of members: 20
Key Members: Goliath (leader / captain), Giggles (pitcher), KT (coach's assistant)
Hangouts: Windham Practice Fields, MuscleMan Gym
Philosophy: A baseball team
Reality: The Nighthawks are a baseball team in the Night City Youth League (14th sector). The have the second best standing in the state. Many of the members are looking forward to professional careers, but two players seem the most likely to make it. First, there is the captain, Jamal Bowman (Goliath). He is utterly dedicated to his performance and works out with single-minded effort. The other is the pitcher, Timothy
Bogaslewski (Giggles). Timothy prefers the easy path and sees a baseball career as the good life with a minimum of effort. Fortunately for him, he has a pitching arm that counterbalances his lackadaisical and boastful attitude. Finally, another important member is KT (Kevin Thompson), the coach's assistant. He’s a TinkerTot who hopes to design cybernetics someday. Until that day, he organizes the paperwork, helps the team train, and fixes the equipment.
There have been rumors of drug use within the team, as well as hazing and unprovoked attacks. On the other hand, some believe they are responsible for the exposure of the Newman Bench game fixing and drug use scandal. Some say they are violent, drug addled egomaniacs; others say they are just ballplayers who love the game. In reality, they're both. The Nighthawks are a divided team. Most of them follow Goliath (10 members) and work to increase their worth as ballplayers and to improve the state of the game itself. They are the one’s responsible for the team’s positive achievements. Unfortunately, there is another current in their locker room. Quite a few (7 players) follow Giggles. They are piggish and full of themselves. Forever in search of a better time, a more receptive crowd, and an easier target, they live for the thrill and crush anyone who would tell them differently. Their drug use and violence gives the team a bad name. Naturally, Goliath and Giggles hate each other with a passion that makes fire look cool and refreshing. However, they will not actively harm each other. Goliath respects the team too much to crush its pitcher and most of the infield; Giggles needs the rest of the team if he is going to make it the majors. Out of necessity, they cover each other’s questionable activities with alibis and scams.
More than anyone else, KT is responsible for the truce because he acts as go-between for both of the camps. Regardless of where they stand, they play one heck of a game.
