Tactical and Security: Tactical is responsible for ship defensive operations. The officer is under the direct command of the commanding officer. A second tactical officer will be available as necessary. This station is occupied at all times, except in docked mode.

Security: Security is responsible for maintaining ship wide security as needed. The officer in charge will likely accompany the commanding officer leading any away team missions, unless ordered otherwise. The security station is used when conditions warrant, as security has a secondary site of operations.

USS Atlantis: Onboard the USS Atlantis the positions of tactical and security have been separated form one another. This was based upon the changes in space politics. The security officer's station has been separated from tactical. Through both stations remain close to each other.
