Operations Management (OPS) Several shipboard operations involves scheduling resources or hardware (such as power or sensor array usage) that affect a number of departments. It is the responsibility of the Operations Management Officer to coordinate such activities so those mission goals are not jeopardized. Thus the need for having a crewmember in this decision-making loop is of crucial importance.

The Ops console presents the Ops Manager with a continually updated list of current major shipboard activities. With this data the ops officer can set priorities and allocate resources among current operations. This becomes critical when two or more requests require the use of the same equipment, entail mutually exclusive mission profiles, or involve some unusual safety or tactical considerations.
