I've been considering this for some time - Just where is the Demiurge? I have a theory that he might have implanted himself into the souls of humans, like a hitchhiker. It is a sort of monistic idea. And if this is true, it makes groups like Buddhists very interesting - could they be servants of Astaroth seeking to get closer to the Demiurge (of course that would mean Astaroth would know - so maybe not). Any comments?
I've discussed that problem with a roleplaying-friend of mine... we came to the following thesis:
Our Kult-Players have developed the stay-alive-strategy to kill everybody and destroy everything
which they don't understand (a lot of nice and important NSC's died that way). One evening in a
hollow road they run into an old man with a long white beard - he might have been a drunken
fool just wanting to get some money from one of the players - but he never managed to express
his wishes, because the terrorist with paranoia just shot the whole magazine of his Mini-Uzi into
the collapsing body ... that day the demiurge just died in a dirty street without Astaroth and the
Death Angels knowing it.
Has anyone out there read 'Preacher'? A comic in which God has gone missing, after the child of a Demon. and an Angel is born. It's wonderfully funny and contains references to such varied things as the end of the world and The Priory of Sion.
I think, that the point is not to know. Not knowing Is one thing that keeps the excitement up for
us gamemasters. When I plan a campaign, i usually get a plot idea and improvise the rest.
That way it becomes an adventure for you as well. You'll never know what you'll think of
next...And to answer your question... who knows? Perhaps he is dead, suicide perhaps.
What if one of the players is the Demiurge, but has forgotten?
Yes, we had a discussion like this one going a while back. Somewhere (I don't recall in which
supplement) there's a hint that the Demiurge is in hiding for some reason. I believe it was in one
of the newer products from Target (in the older ones there was only said that he disappeared
and that no-one has a clue to what really happened). Maybe someone could refresh my memory
on this point? As for the Buddhists being servants of Astaroth... ...hmmm...in my mind it's hard
to believe that such calm and peace-loving people could be just that, but that's only my opinion.
Yes, if my memory serves me correctly, there was mention of this in the Metropolis sourcebook.
Something I personally will disregard even if it spelled out in mile-high letters in any
new supplement. As for the buddhists being servants of Astaroth...Well, I usually think of them
as on-the-right-way-to- enlightenment but too stuck up on the concept of nirvana to ever truly
awaken. All game-wise of course (just to make sure) There is some mention of this in the
"Legions of Darkness" I think...The enlightened Siddhartha and so forth.
