CAMERON: I've never seen it before.
Ellen starts wading across the river.
CAMERON: Ellen, we have to get out of here, that guy...
ELLEN: No, it's all right, let's hide in here.
They climb up the bank on the other side and heads towards the shack. It looks very run down. A door hangs off its hinges at the entrance.
Elen slides inside and wipes the water from her face. The building is quite protected from the wind but planks of wood still rattle around.
ELLEN: (lighting up lighter) What is this place?
CAMERON: I don't know.
They look around. It is a musty, old building, of unknown use. It is damp and drops of water drip down from cracks in the roof.
Ellen heads into the middle of the room. She looks around when she suddenly drops the lighter.
The room goes dark.
ELLEN: Shit.
She gets down on the floor.
CAMERON: You goof-ball.
Ellen finds it again.
ELLEN: Shut up, it burned my hand.
Ellen lights the lighter.
The dead face of Rachel stares back up through a gap in the floor boards. Ellen screams out loud, tumbling backwards onto her ass. Cameron runs over as she keeps screaming.
CAMERON: What? What's-
He sees her, the puncture wound in her head visible. Cameron screams as well.
They back away to the side of the room.
ELLEN: (getting her breath back) It's Rachel.....Rachel Embers....she was killed in the house...
CAMERON: Let's get the hell out of here.
ELLEN: No, wait. Calm down, get your breath.......we have to look at the other bodies....
CAMERON: No. No way.
ELLEN: I think they were put there for a reason.....I have to find out.
Ellen heads over.
CAMERON: Why? They're dead!!
ELLEN: Why hide the bodies?
Ellen closes her eyes and bends down. We don't see her but as she looks through the floorboards, we see her reaction as she sees Beth's body.
56. INT GUESTHOUSE NIGHT
It's about one AM. Karen, Jess, Jon and Kate sit in chairs in the guesthouse. Brenda brings cups of coffee and sets them down.Through the front door, Cheif Tom Radmacher, enters with two other cops.
TOM: What the hell's going on?
Brenda stands up.
BRENDA: I was the one that called you.....
TOM: Where are the other officers?
KAREN: He killed them.....and my mom.
TOM: All three of them?
KAREN: And you'd better do something about it because he's on his way here now.
TOM: All right, we're gonna transfer you all over to the hospital where it's safe. Are there any other guests staying here?
BRENDA: No, just me and my dad.
TOM: Where is he?
BRENDA: He's out back.
TOM: All right, it's a good 2 miles to the hospital. We've got two options. Take you all in groups using the squad car.....or try and wait until the storm passes.
BRENDA: That could be a day!
TOM: All right, you're right.
Tom raises his radio.
TOM: Dispatch this is unit 2-4, come back, over?
DISPATCH VOICE: Roger 2-4.
TOM: Can you maybe get the wagon over to the guesthouse on Vermont ASAP? We've got some people to evacuate.
DISPATCH VOICE: Could be half an hour, it's out collecting other people.
TOM: Roger, just send it as quick as you can.
He puts the radio down. Then he turns to the other cops.
TOM: All right, let's just keep an eye on this door at all times.
COPS: OK.
They turn and face the doors, hands on guns.
57. INT WOODEN SHACK NIGHT
Ellen is in half tears. Cameron stands against the back wall.
Suddenly Ellen bolts upright into frame. She stumbles backwards to Cameron.
CAMERON: What? What is it?
ELLEN: (quietly) Oh my god.
She turns and runs out of the shack. Cameron follows her. Ellen runs and wades across the river to the van.
CAMERON: Ellen, what the fuck are you doing?!!
He reaches her as she stands with the van door open. She is rooting through the box.
CAMERON: What are you doing?
ELLEN: (to herself) It's here......it's gotta be here.....
CAMERON: What's here?
Ellen stops as she removes a photo.
ELLEN: Him...
She shows him a photo of Billy Loomis, fourteen years old, with his mum and Dad and a little baby.
CAMERON:Yeah?
ELLEN: Billy Loomis. Fourteen years old. A year before he moved to Woodsboro.
CAMERON: He lived here?
ELLEN: Yeah...it was in the attic.
CAMERON: Yeah but the Dad collected a lot of stuff about the murders......
ELLEN: And there's a reason....
CAMERON: Why?
ELLEN: Because he was his father.
CAMERON: What?
ELLEN: Which would make this kid Jill Tyler.
CAMERON: You're being stupid.
ELLEN: Cam......her body isn't in that shack.
CAMERON: What?
ELLEN: Her body is missing. It's missing because she didn't die that night. It's missing because she's alive.
CAMERON: You're saying she's the killer?
ELLEN: It makes sense! The night she killed those girls was Billy's birthday. He would have been 25......
CAMERON: Why would she kill them?!
ELLEN: Because they killed Billy. She's getting revenge!!
Cameron rolls his eyes.
CAMERON: I think you need to sit down-
Ellen sees a flash of black.....she screams
ELLEN: Cameron look out!!
Cameron moves as the figure wearing the mask runs at them. He knocks Ellen and they both splash into the river, instantly getting pulled downstream by the current. Cameron yells for her but she can't hear. He takes off running down the bank.
Ellen gasps for air as she tries to keep a look out for the person that knocked her in the river. She takes deep breaths because of the cold and has swallowed a lot of water.
She tries to swim to the bank but the current is even more strong along this way.
But eventually is stops, flowing out into a wide circle of water, not very deep, but very scary. Ellen gets to her feet, the water is at chest level, and stops dead, scanning the horizon. She can't see anybody around.
The wind is still howling. Ellen wipes the mud off her face as she stands deadly still.
The water parts as the figure jumps up f rom beneath at Ellen. She screams as the figure pushes her under the water. The silver flash of a blade appears. We see oxygen bubbles float up and Ellen's legs kicking around.Cameron takes a running jump off the bank, knocking the killer over just as the knife swings down.
The killer rolls over. Cameron pulls Ellen up as she gasps for air. He pulls her to the bank. The killer gets up and stands in the water. Ellen and Cameron look back.
CAMERON: Go, get out of here
ELLEN: I'm not leaving you.....
CAMERON: Just go!!
Ellen clambers up the bank as the killer advances. As she gets to the top, Cameron swings at the killer, punches his face. He slumps back. As Cameron swings again, the killer grabs his arm and slams the knife into his neck. An explosion of blood flies as Ellen screams. The killer lets Cameron fall. Ellen takes off running.
The killer climbs out of the water. Ellen comes onto a small road. She heads down the centreline, desperately looking for some signs of life. The killer follows behind.
Ellen stops dead as she sees what's ahead. She smiles a tiny little smile as she runs towards her Volkswagen Bug parked at the side of the road. She opens the door and jumps in. She searches all her pockets. No keys.
The killer gets closer in the rear view mirror.
ELLEN: Come on keys.......come on!!
She removes her wallet. Opening it, a spare key is inside one of the sleeves. She slots it home and turns it. The car splutters. She tries again. Nothing. The killer gets closer. Once more, this time it starts. She screams in delight, puts it in gear and pulls away. But she releases the clutch too fast.......the car stalls.
ELLEN: Fuck!!!!
She starts it again. The killer reaches her and smashes the side window with the butt of the knife. The glass cracks a little but doesn't shatter. Ellen pulls away leaving the killer behind, the little engine of the car roaring in delight.
58. INT GUESTHOUSE NIGHT
Tom, the cop paces around nervously. He looks at his watch.
TOM: (to the others) Did you see who the killer was?
JESS: Would you give it a rest? People are dead because your cops couldn't do the job.
KAREN: As I already told you. He was wearing a mask, I couldn't see him.
TOM: Jesus H Christ, this is fucking insane.
Karen sits closer to her dad and hugs him.
KAREN: You OK Dad?
He doesn't respond.
KAREN: Dad? Please talk to me......please....Dad, you've gotta get through this....
BRENDA: When's this truck gonna get here? That weather's getting worse.
TOM: I don't know.....I can't reach them......they'll be here soon.
Outside, tires can be heard squealing. Ellen's bug comes into view and screeches to a halt outside the guesthouse. She runs inside, one of the cops grabs her.
TOM: What the hell are you doing out there?
ELLEN: Let me go......!!!
Tom nods to the cops. Ellen runs into the room.
TOM: What's wrong?
ELLEN: Jill......Jill's coming........
TOM: Jill who?
ELLEN: Jill Tyler.......
TOM: Jill Tyler is dead....have some Goddmaned respect!
ELLEN: No,...she's alive, she's the killer......she's coming......
TOM: You don't have a fucking clue lady and if you don't shut up I'll shoot you!!
The lights in the guesthouse shut down and start up again. They flicker on and off.
TOM: Christ, we're gonna lose power......
Tom looks up at the light fittings.
KAREN: I think we should leave.
TOM: Just stay calm, the van'll be here in a few minutes.
ELLEN: You're not listening!! She's on her way here now!!
TOM: I don't know what you've been smoking but you better pipe down.
ELLEN: I will not pipe down, I was just attacked!!
TOM: Take her out the back please.
The cop grabs her arm and leads her out the back.
59. They enter a small corridor. The cop holds her shoulders.
COP: Look, take it easy, you're safe now.....
ELLEN: I doubt that very seriously.
The cop looks at her as the lights flicker off and on again.
60. In the main lobby, the other stand around waiting. Outside the police van pulls up, it's red and blue lights flashing.
TOM: Thank shit for that.
Tom turns to the others.
TOM: All right, when I say so, we're gonna make a run for the van, climb in, sit down and be quiet.
They all get themselves together. Tom speaks quietly to the other cop.
TOM: Go tell the driver we got a live one. We may need some tranquilizers ready at the hospital.
The cop runs out of the hotel and to the van. He opens the side door and looks in. There's no-one there. The keys swing in the ignition.
COP: What the hell?
He turns back and faces the hotel.
COP: Tom!! There's no-one here!
TOM: What?!
COP: There's no one-
He doesn't get to finish his sentence. His chest thrusts forward and he slumps to the ground. We see the black cloak of the killer in the background.
Tom stares in disbelief.
TOM: Fuck me.......
He removes his revolver as the killer slides into the back of the van. Tom opens fire, emptying his six bullets into the van.
TOM: Everybody move, out the back door now!!
They all get up. Tom runs to the old man, Brenda's dad.
TOM: Give me the shotgun.
61. They all burst through the corridor where Ellen is being restrained by the other cop.
TOM: Move to the back door!! Get out of here.
They head down the back corridor, the exit looms ahead. But before anybody realizes it, the door is kicked open, the killer steps in, raises the knife and throws it. It circles through the air and strikes Tom in the neck. He groans and slumps down.
The other cop removes his gun and aims to fire but the killer has disappeared. Karen bends down and picks up the shot gun.
BRENDA: Come on, follow me.....!!
She leads the way up a set of backstairs to the next floor. They all follow, the cop brings up the rear, gun raised. On the next floor, they head down another hall. Closed bedroom doors have numbers going from 10 to 25. Brenda leads the way.
KATE: Where are we going?
BRENDA: We can get down the fire ladder at the end of the hall.
COP: Keep moving people!!
As they walk, the come past a stairwell door, leading to another set of stairs It shoots open, and an arm grabs the cop and drags him in. Everyone screams and runs to the end of the hall
Brenda has opened the window. Her dad has climbed out as has she. Jon stands by the window.
BRENDA: Come on!!
JON: Karen!!
Ellen grabs Jess' arm as well.
ELLEN: Come on!!
They pull her down the hall as the door opens again and the killer steps out. Karen sees this and raises the shotgun. Everyone falls silent. The killer holds a bloody knife.
KAREN: You killed my mom......
The killer stares back.
KAREN: Put the knife down. Put it down now.Karen points the shotgun directly at the killer's head.
KAREN: Even if you try to get me.......I fire this gun, I won't miss.
BRENDA: Let's just get out of here!!
KAREN: DROP THE KNIFE!!!!
The killer lets the knife fall to the ground. It clangs in the hallway.
KAREN: Move against the wall.
The killer takes a few steps away from them. Then the lights go down. The whole place goes dark. The killer bolts away, Karen fires a shell, the sound in the corridor is deafening. Everybody screams. Karen and Ellen run into the stairwell and up the stairs, Jess runs back the way she came, nobody knows where the killer went.
62. INT STAIRWELL
Jess arrives at the stairwell. She runs up the stairs to the next floor, breathing heavily, sweat pouring down her face. She starts sobbing.
JESS: Oh God, you gotta help me somebody....
There is a clanking sound in the background. She snaps round. Nobody there. She wipes her forhead as she tries to get her bearings. She sobs quitely.
JESS: Somebody......Karen......
As if in response, a figure appears behind her. A rope noose is slipped over her neck. She gasps as the rope goes tight. The killer reaches up and knots the rope on the metal banister. The killer than pushes her over the edge, she tumbles down and the rope snaps tight, she hangs, choking. The killer calmly walks down to the next level and stands watching her try to loosen the rope. The killer raises the knife. Jess tries to scream but can't. The killer cuts open her stomach and somehow she manages a blood-curdling scream. Blood and guts pour down to the bottom of the stairwell as the main lights flicker on.
63. INT CORRIDOR THIRD FLOOR
Ellen and Karen come out on the next floor.
KAREN: Was that Jess?
ELLEN: I think so......Jesus, we have to get out of here.
KAREN: Where is he?
ELLEN: It's not a he, it's a she.
The lights flash back off and on again. They find they are stood in a different corridor, more room doors facing them. It is the third floor.
They head down towards the window where they can see the escape ladder.
KAREN: Where is everyone?
ELLEN: They all ran in different directions.....I think we're on the next floor.
KAREN: Maybe we should go back......
Karen turns around. A hand reaches out, grabs the shotgun and knocks it away. Then Karen is slammed up against the wall as the killer raises the knife.
ELLEN: Jill no!!
The killer stops. The mask turns towards her, looking at her.
ELLEN: We know all about you.....just let her go.
Karen is still pressed up against the wall. Karen reaches up and screws the rubber of the mask in her fist, pulling it from the face to reveal Jill Tyler.
Karen squeals slightly.
ELLEN: It's over, Jill. It was very clever but it's over......let her go.
Ellen feels someone behind her. She turns to see A figure dressed in black......wearing the scream mask, stood five feet from her. Ellen doesn't know what's going on. Karen gasps for breath.
The figure reaches up and removes the mask. The face of Billy Loomis stares back.
BILL: (scary)Boo.
Ellen swallows air, she steps back.
ELLEN: No.....you're dead....Billy....
BILLY: No, I'm very much alive......but I'm not Billy. I'm Sam. pleased to meet you.
ELLEN: No, this is wrong.....
SAM: What's wrong? Never heard of twins?
ELLEN: No....
Ellen removes the photo of Billy at fourteen with his mum, dad and baby Jill from her pocket.
ELLEN: You're lying. You're not even in this photo.
Sam looks down to the picture.
SAM: Look in the mirror.
Ellen looks at the photo. In the corner, there is a small fireplace with a mirror above it. Taking a closer look, we see Billy's exact double holding a camera to his eye.
SAM: Who's taking the picture?
Ellen drops the photo.
SAM: Jill.....go find the others.
Jill lets Karen go, bends down, picks up the mask, puts it on and heads down the corridor.
Karen slumps to the floor, gasping for breath.
SAM: She's a great kid. Doesn't talk much but she can gut someone like you wouldn't believe.
ELLEN: Why are you doing this?
SAM: All the best killers worked in pairs......Mickey and Mallory, Bonnie and Clyde....Billy and Stu.
Karen gets up.
KAREN: Why do you want to kill me? Why did you kill my mom?
SAM: (angry) Because your parents killed my brother.
KAREN: You're insane, my parents did nothing.....
SAM: They did everything.........Billy didn't do anything that day.
KAREN: I don't have a fucking clue of what you're talking about.
SAM: When he was fourteen, Billy was walking home from school and a girl was killed just outside your house. She was cut to pieces. When the police asked your parents what they saw, they told them Billy Tyler did it, "He was there, we saw him"
KAREN: I don't believe you. But if they did it's because Billy did kill someone, he's a fucking psycho and you know it.
SAM: Your parents turned him psycho. Our parents disowned him.....sent him away to Woodsboro to live with foster parents, he changed his name, didn't want anything to do with us.......and whenever my parents looked at me, they saw Billy. They saw a son who they thought was a killer......I lost my best friend and Jill lost her brother. Made me leave town too, had to get out of the fucking place, parents were driving me fucking insane. But then Jill came up with the idea of getting back at al the fuckers who screwed our lives up in the first place. She was just a kid at the time but the memory never left her. And all because of your parents. You could never feel that kind of pain......to be resented by your own parents....to be called a killer at school......... that's why he started killing up in Woodsboro, that was the life your parents chose for him......But, Billy was a special kid. He got Stu to help him kill and then his own foster mom got in on the act.
KAREN: You didn't have to kill my mom!!
