CAMERON: What?
ELLEN: Those four girls are dead. Why the bodies are missing I dont know. But if the guy that killed that kid this afternoon visited that house the other night, then I've got little hope for finding those girls alive.
CAMERON: Yeah, well hopefully a building will collapse on the son of a bitch.
ELLEN: I doubt if we'd be that lucky. All I have to do now is make the connection. It's here somewhere.
Cameron looks at her like she's getting into something she doesn't really know about.
36. INT KAREN'S HOUSE EVENING
It's now seven thirty. Curfew effective. Outside, branches are being torn from trees, across the field, one has been uprooted.
Eleanor is stood at the window looking out to the horizon. Jon comes and stands by her.
JON: Something interesting?
ELEANOR: Is the car gonna be all right out there?
JON: It's in the garage. It'll be fine.
Jon pulls her away and the head into the kitchen where Kate is talking to Jake, the cop sent over to guard the house. They both laugh.
JAKE: So I pulled the guy over and I'm screaming at him, "I saw you ram the guy!" And he's like, "No officer, no officer three bags full officer!"
Kate laughs, flirting with him.
JAKE: And I said, "So how do you explain the big dents in your car?" And he goes, "That was when I hit the wife!"
Kate lolls her head back, screaming with laughter. Jon and Eleanor stand watching, they don't think it's funny.
ELEANOR: I'm glad somebody's having a good time.
KATE: It was a funny story.
JON: Did you take a look around outside?
JAKE: Yeah, lost my hat (points to his head) -but it's clean.
KATE: I'm gonna go and check on the girls.
Kate gets up and leaves.
JON: We were gonna watch some TV, you wanna join us?
JAKE: No thanks, I'm gonna keep watch, you go relax, pretend I'm not here.
Jon leaves the room and goes to the Living room.
ELEANOR: You know Karen was pretty shocked when you arrested her.
JAKE: I'm sorry, but we have to follow the rules, I didn't think she did it.
Eleanor nods and leaves the room. Then she sticks her head around the door frame.
ELEANOR: And Jake?
JAKE: Yeah?
ELEANOR: Stop eating my salmon mousse.
Jake smiles as Eleanor leaves. A second later, the killer moves behind Jake and slams the knife into his back. It penetrates his lung so he can't even muster a slight gasp. Eleanor has barely been gone a second before Jake falls to his knees, a look of incomprehension on his face. His blood pours onto the floor like somebody spilt a coke.
The killer walks past.
37. INT KAREN'S ROOM
Karen and Jess are sat on Karen's bed. The room is silent except for a small portable TV which is showing a music station.
JESS: How are you feeling?
KAREN: Like shit.
JESS: Me too. I mean, even though I didn't know Dylan that well......
KAREN: I know.
She rubs Jess's hands.
JESS: People just heard about it. It was on the news at six.
KAREN: Did they mention me?
JESS: They said you tried to stop the killer.
KAREN: Regular hero.
JESS: Yes. You are. Going after Dylan like that, it was the bravest thing I've ever heard off. When he.......when......when the killer.......attacked you, what were you thinking. Oh fuck, I'm sorry, that was totally out of order.
KAREN: I guess I don't know. I mean I was scared but.....I was thinking about Dylan. I thought he was still alive and if the killer hadn't chased me I might have been able to help him.
JESS: Do have any idea who it was?
KAREN: No, he was strong, fast, if I hadn't slipped he would have got me.
JESS: Jesus, don't talk like that.
KAREN: At least I have something to be thankful for.
(she lifts up her elbow showing a big fat bruise. She kisses it.)
38. INT LIVING ROOM
Eleanor and Jon are watching TV in the living room. In the background, the lights in the kitchen flick off. Eleanor rests her shoulder on Jon's shoulder. The phone rings.
Eleanor picks it up.
ELEANOR: Hello? (pause) Yeah hang on. May I ask who's calling? OK.
Eleanor gets up.
JON: What?
ELEANOR: Somebody for Karen.
Jon nods.
Eleanor leaves the living room and goes up the stairs. She doesn't see Jake's body lying on the kitchen floor.
39. INT UPSTAIRS HALLWAY
Eleanor heads towards Karen's room at the back. As she does so, Kate exits the bathroom rubbing her hair dry.
KATE: Hey, that's a great shower you've got. For a second there I thought I was gonna get blown out of the window
ELEANOR: (laughs) Thanks.
Eleanor knocks on Karen's door.
ELEANOR: Karen?
KAREN: (through door) Yeah?
ELEANOR: It's Lisa on the phone for you.
KAREN: OK, got it.
40. INT KAREN'S ROOM
Karen reaches over and picks up the phone.
JESS: Who's Lisa?
KAREN: She's in my math class.
Karen puts the phone to her ear.
KAREN: Hello?
It's the voice from before. That voice.
VOICE:(calling, almost playful) Ka......ren, Ka.....ren.
Karen listens.
KAREN: Lisa? That you?
VOICE: Nu-uh.
KAREN: Do I know you?
VOICE: No. Well, maybe, I enjoyed our little run today.
Karen gaps.
KAREN: Where are you?
VOICE: (callous and evil) Wouldn't you like to know?
The phone goes dead.
Karen puts the phone down.
JESS: What? What's wrong?!
KAREN: I think we're in troubleP>41. In the living room, Eleanor and Jon watch TV.
JON: Did you hear that?
ELEANOR:What?
JON:I thought I heard someone yell.
ELEANOR: Get, Jake, to go check.
Eleanor watches Jon as he heads to the kitchen. As he gets closer, all the lights in the house turn off.
ELEANOR: Karen!! Jess!!!
Jon fumbles into the kitchen, he can't see much, there is very little light. He manages to pass Jake's body without hitting it, but his socks squelch in something.
JON: Jake? Jake where the hell are you?!
Jon bends down and sticks his fingers is what he thinks is just water. He goes to the counter and opens a drawer, fishing out a flashlight. He flicks it on and looks at his hand. He sees the fingertips drip bright red. He stares not sure and then realises.
As he does, the killer steps into frame behind him. The killer knocks something which makes Jon snap round. His flashlight illuminates the mask, making it look more scary. The knife comes up but so does Jon's arm, blocking the attack.
The killer knocks Jon back but he ducks as the killer swipes with the blade. Jon slips on the blood and falls on his chest. He winces in pain holding his knee He grunts as he crawls across the floor, the killer looks down at the pathetic person trying to get away.
42. INT KAREN'S BEDROOM
Eleanor bursts through the door to see Karen, Jess and Kate by the window. Karen is gasping for breath, Jess tries to remain calm.
KATE: What's going on?
KAREN: Mom, he called me, he's here in the house.
KATE: Where's Jon?
Eleanor stops dead. She can't believe she let Jon go be himself.
ELEANOR: Wait here, I'll go get him, call the police.
They move to the hallway and towards the stairs.
43. Jon reaches Jake's body, his lifeless eyes glowing in the flashlight beam. Jon screams. He rolls on his back and kicks at the killer. He tumbles backwards, groping for something to grab hold of, he falls on his ass but the knife scatters into the darkness.
By this time, Jon has got up and is running up the stairs. The killer gives chase.
43. Jon bumps into Eleanor who screams as she sees him.
They look back down the stairs but the killer is no where.
ELEANOR: (whisper) Are you hurt?
JON: No, it's not my blood. It's Jake's He's in the kitchen. We have to get out of here, now.
ELEANOR: Come on, we'll climb out of the bedroom window.
They head down the hall, very, very cautiously into their bedroom. Eleanor turns to Jon.
ELEANOR: Get the others, they're in Karen's room.
JON: I'm not gonna leave you here.
ELEANOR: Go!
Eleanor goes into the room.
She goes to the window and looks over her shoulder trying to be quiet. She flings back the curtains. The killer is stood on the ledge outside. His mask gleams at her as he punches his hand through the glass. Eleanor screams.
She falls backwards as the killer punches away the rest of the glass and starts climbing through.
She gets up and backs away to the door as the killer heads towards her. His knife is missing but his hands look deadly enough.
As she heads to the door, Eleanor grabs a letter opener off the nightstand. she holds it out, it could do some serious damage.
ELEANOR: I don't know who you are.........or what you want.......but if you come near any of us, I will fucking kill you.
The killer stares at her, the mask is very unnerving, almost hypnotic. Eleanor backs out of the room, the killer stays where he is. Jon runs back and grabs her, pulling her out towards the stairs. The killer sprints off, after them.
They all stand at the top of the stairs. They see the killer running at them. Kate, Jon and Jess run down the stairs. Karen pulls Eleanor back into her room. The killer rushes after them, they slam the door just as the killer pounds into it.
Jon heads into the kitchen, pulling the others with him.
JON: Fuck!! Did you call the police?
JESS: (hysterical) They're on their way, what about Karen!!
44. INT KAREN'S BEDROOM
Karen and Eleanor back as far away from the door as they hear the pounding on the other side.
Eleanor points to the window.
ELEANOR: Come on, the window.
Karen slides it up and looks out. It's a substantial drop but what choice does she have? She clambers out. The wood around the lock begins to splinter. Karen is fully out now, she grabs hold of the drainpipe and begins sliding down. The wind and rain completely soak her through within a few seconds.
KAREN: Mom come on!!
Eleanor starts to climb out as the door is kicked open. The killer advances on her. She grabs the letter opener.
ELEANOR: You piece of shit.
She charges with the small knife.
KAREN: Moooom!!!!
The killer grabs Eleanor by the neck before she has chance to do anything. He begins to strangle her there and then. Eleanor gasps for breath, she tries to swing the knife but the killer is holding her outstretched. Eleanor's eyes begin to roll back in her head.
The killer is struck from behind by one of Karen's speakers from her stereo. The killer falls down as Jon catches Eleanor's falling body. He picks her up and leaves the room as the killer rolls on the floor.
45. Outside, the others stand in the rain as Jon exits the house carrying Eleanor's body. The rain pounds down.
A patrol car, lights flashing swerves into the driveway. Martin jumps out with another officer. They draw their guns.
MARTIN: Where is he?
KATE: Inside!! The bedroom!
She points to where Karen climbed down.
MARTIN: All right just stay here.
Jon is on the ground with Eleanor. He checks her breathing and then his spine goes rigid.
JON: Eleanor. No, shit, God no, ELEANOR!!
Karen runs over.
KAREN: What's wrong with Mom?!
Jon begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He pumps her chest trying to bring her back to life.
46. Inside the house, Martin and the other cop enter with guns drawn.
They glance at the staircase. Their torches flash over Jake's dead body.
MARTIN: Jesus Christ.
COP: Upstairs.
They both begin up the stai rs, covering each other. At the top, they see Karen's room to the left and the parent's to the right.
MARTIN: Go right.
The cop nods and heads to the parent's bedroom. Martin goes left.
The cop enters the bedroom and sees the broken glass on the floor.
In Karen's bedroom, Martin sees no body of the killer.
The cop turns over a piece of glass with his foot. As he does so, he hears a noise behind him. He turns to the wardrobe where the door rattles slightly as though someone were inside.
The cop points the gun at the wardrobe and takes a few steps closer. The doors continue to rattle. The cop clicks the hammer on the gun, readying it for firing.
He aims the gun at the centre of the doors, as the rattle conti-
The doors fly open in an explosion of sound and action. The cop doesn't see it and is immediately knocked back against the wall by the killer. He doesn't even manage to get a shot off. His gun clatters underneath the bed.
Martin comes running down the hall, hearing the noise. The killer knows this, reaches out to the door, grabs Martin as he runs in, turns full circle and using his momentum, sails him through the window frame.
Martin seems to float in mid-air, arching gracefully and then splatting on the grass outside.
47. Kate watches in despair as Jon tries to revive Eleanor. The screaming Martin hits the ground behind her. She screams as does everyone else.
48. The cop on the floor winces, trying to move. His back may be broken. The killer bends down next to him.
COP: Who are you?
The killer fishes piece of broken glass from the scatterings and turns it in his hands.
COP: Please.........no.....
The killer raises the glass and jabs the cop in the chest. The cop screams in utter pain.
49. Outside, Karen looks up at the sound of the scream.
Jon is crying.
JON:Eleanor........God.....
Karen gets up and yanks her Dad's shirt.
KAREN: (crying) Dad, please get up. We have to go, come on, please.
Jon sobs out loud. Karen keeps a careful eye on the house.
Jess suddenly screams.
They see the killer walking down the stairs. Karen screams.
KAREN: Dad, come on, move!! Now!!
He gets up as they all run to the car. Kate and Jess clamber in the back, Jon gets in the front as Karen gets behind the wheel.
She turns the keys and the engine starts. The car screeches away leaving a trail of leaves and dirt. The killer just misses it.
Karen speeds the car along, avoiding branches that fly at the car and the pounding rain.
KAREN: Dad!! Are you all right?!
JON: (crying)Jesus, he fucking killed Eleanor.
KAREN: Dad, stay with me, Dad!!
Karen looks ahead to see a tree fallen across the road. She slams on the brakes, the front end smashes into the trunk, the hood gets jammed underneath it.
KAREN: God, no, not now, not now.
She looks in the rear-view mirror but there's nothing.
KATE: Go around!!
KAREN: I can't, we're stuck!!
JESS: No you can't!! He'll kill us all!!
KAREN: We don't have time to argue!! We have-
The killer is a proaching in the rear-view mirror.
Karen gasps.
JESS: What? What?!
They all turn.
Kate screams as the killer gets closer.
Karen starts the engine again. She puts it in revese and slams the accelerator but the car doesn't give. She tries it in first, the tree is pushed back a little but still nothing. The killer gets closer.
KAREN: Come on you piece of shit!!!
She tries reverse. The car becomes free and screams backwards, the killer dives out of the way. Karen, not being a stunt driver, stops the car and turns as far as she can in the road. Then she puts it in reverse and goes back so that she's facing the opposite way. By this time the killer is on the car. He grabs the door handle and yanks open the door. Kate screams as he reaches for her but the car speeds away, the killer is left standing.
50. INT GUESTHOUSE NIGHT
Ellen and Cameron are both in Ellen's room. They sit as the storm bangs around outside. Cameron is sat at a desk with a lap top computer. It displays a radar image of the town with the storm directly over it.
ELLEN: Great. No TV, no phones. Soon we'll lose the lights.
CAMERON: This thing is tearing the town apart. I can't tell for sure but there's been a shit load of structural damage. My battery's losing power, damn.
ELLEN: How come you're getting a live feed?
CAMERON: I'm linked up to a satellite.
Ellen isn't really listening. She thumbing through some files.
ELLEN: Dylan did have a lot of girlfriend's over the years. Do you know where any of them live?
CAMERON: You wanna go out at this time? In this weather?
ELLEN: Answer the question.
CAMERON: No not really. Only Jill Tyler's house. The one where it all happened.
ELLEN: Do you think she kept a diary?
CAMERON: Why?
ELLEN: (as thought it's the most obvious answer) Because I want to read it.
CAMERON: Even if she did keep a diary, I wouldn't let you read it.
ELLEN: Oh you wouldn't would you?
CAMERON: No, some things are better left alone. Especially since it is a dead girl's diary, it makes it just a bit worse.
ELLEN: This is shit. The only thing I've got so far is that one mask looks like another.
CAMERON: Well......work on that.
ELLEN: And besides, what do you mean "go out at this time at this hour" You just went out to get that damned thing.
CAMERON: Yeah but this is in the interest of science.
Ellen goes to the window. She looks out as debris is blown down the streets. A small river of rain water pours down the road.
ELLEN: Well, I guess you're right. You gotta be insane to go outside in this weather.
Out the window behind her, we see the police car Karen is driving skid into view. It mounts the kerb and smashes into a shop front. Ellen snaps round and Cameron jumps up.
CAMERON: What the hell was that?
Ellen squints down.
ELLEN: Jesus, it's that girl from this afternoon!
Cameron sees her.
CAMERON: Holy shit.
Ellen runs out of the room, Cameron follows.
52. EXT STREET
Karen kicks her door open and gets out, holding on to the car as the other get out. Across the street, Ellen and Cameron run into the street. They jump past a plastic trash can as it flies down the street.
Ellen and Cameron help them into the guesthouse.
ELLEN: Are you guys all right?!
KAREN: You gotta help us!! He's coming!!
ELLEN: Who? Who's coming?
KAREN: The killer! The goddamned killer!!
Ellen looks at her and then helps her inside.
53. INT GUESTHOUSE
KATE: You gotta call the police! Right now!!
ELLEN: We can't the phones are down.
The old man and Brenda come out from the back.
BRENDA: What in the name of hell is going on here?
ELLEN: They just escaped from the killer. They say he's on his way here.
BRENDA: Jesus Christ. Pops, go get the shotgun.
The old man goes out the back.
KAREN: Dad, you all right?
Jon looks at her. He sighs deeply and hugs her.
ELLEN: (quietly to Cameron) I'm going out there.
Cameron's eyes go wide.
He pulls her aside.
CAMERON: You're fucking what?!
ELLEN: I'm going out to that girl's house. I think he'll be there, something weird is going on with that place, why hide the bodies?
CAMERON: You're going out to the house? Why? So you can ask for his side of the story?
ELLEN: If I want sarcasm I'll talk to my Mom. I've just got a gut feeling he'll be there.
CAMERON: Gut feeling? Sure you've got a gut feeling, you'll get a gut feeling when he rams a goddamned knife through your stomach.
ELLEN: But he's out there!!
CAMERON: Which is exactly the reason why you shouldn't go. Why are you so Goddamned impulsive? Wait until the storm's over, a couple of days, then I'll drive you anywhere you wanna go. I'll be your fucking chauffeur, but until then, let it go.
ELLEN: A couple of days? He's killed at least five people in a couple of days. And I'm sure according to these people, the bodycount has risen. I'm going out there, you can either come with me, or get out of my way.
Cameron looks at her.
CAMERON: You're a fucking psycho.
Ellen smiles.
ELLEN: No. But I know someone who is.
CAMERON: Jeeeezus.
ELLEN: Good.
They head to the door.
CAMERON: (to the others) Stay here everyone, we're going to get some help.
KATE: Don't go out there!
KAREN: She's right, if you do he'll get you!!
ELLEN: Don't worry, you'll be perfectly safe here. We won't be long.
They run out of the door, across the street to Cameron's van. It has been dented on the sides and the side window is broken.
Cameron gets in the driver's seat and starts the engine as the rain continues to pour down.
ELLEN: Need a map?
CAMERON: No. I need a machine gun.
54. INT POLICE STATION
Chief Tom Radmacher sits at his desk looking at a small clock on the table. He fiddles with a paperclip in his hands and sighs deeply. Across the other side of the room, a few cops sit reading files.
Another cop enters the room.
TOM: Hey, any word from Martin?
COP: No, we got his report that he arrived but nothing since.
TOM: Maybe I should go out there.
COP: That's crazy and you know it. You'd get blown off your feet if you went outside. The whole town's losing power.
COP 2: Yeah.....I heard that the whole west side of Montgomery street was swept away by a flood.
TOM: Jesus. She said that the killer was at her house didn't she? When she called? I mean I'm not just imagining that am I?
COP : No.
TOM: Well what if the guy has killed them all?
COP: You're over-reacting.
TOM: Bullshit, overreacting.
A voice appears on aradio.
VOICE: Hello? Can anybody hear me?
COP: (into radio) This is a secure channel, identify yourself?
VOICE: This is Brenda Luellen from the guesthouse. I'm using the radio that was in your police car.
COP: Excuse me?
VOICE: You'd better get down here, we've got some people from the Green's house, they said the killer is after them...
The cop jumps up.
COP: Karen Green?
VOICE: Yeah and her Dad. Her mom was killed along with some police men...
We don't hear the rest of he conversation as Tom gets up.
TOM: OK, you two (points to 2 cops) come with me, the rest of you stay here and listen for our reports. Let's have everyone on full standy by.
They leave the office and go outside towards the guesthouse.
55. EXT TYLER HOUSE NIGHT
Cameron pulls the van to a halt outside the Tyler house. The storm is just as bad here although there is no structural damage. There are no lights on but there is yellow police tape across the front door.
ELLEN: Here we are.
CAMERON: Not excited are you?
ELLEN: Not scared are you?
Cameron opens the door and struggles to keep it open against the wind. They both run up to the porch where the storm is less strong. They stand looking at the front door.
CAMERON: Now what? This place is taped up.
ELLEN: (ripping it down) And what a barrier it is.
Ellen opens the door and goes inside, Cameron follows.
They are in the hallway where Rachel was killed against the wall. Most of the place has been cleared up. There is a large hole in the wood panel where the poker left Rache'ls head.
CAMERON: So what do you wanna do?
ELLEN: Let's look for the bedroom.
They both head up the stairs.
CAMERON: Who do you think the killer is?
ELLEN: Well.......it all began with a scream over 911, then four murders. We have very little clues, then more people die, still no clues......so I don't know.
They arrive at the top. They check the first room. It appears to be the parent's bedroom.
ELLEN: But I tell you what. This place would sure make a great tourist attraction.
CAMERON: You're sick.
ELLEN: I'm just trying to keep myself from getting scared.
CAMERON: You don't think I did it did you?
ELLEN: Well if you did, it would be a perfect opportunity for you to kill me here and now.
CAMERON: Why would I want to kill you? If I was the killer?
ELLEN: Because I'm getting closer to the truth.
Cameron rolls his eyes.
CAMERON: Let's keep looking.
They come to a bedroom. They enter Jill's bedroom. It's a nice little place, kinda fairy tale like. Four poster bed, stuffed toys, curtains, "Save The Whales" pictures on the walls.
ELLEN: If somebody wanted to kill Jill because of a boyfriend girlfriend thing, then the answer should be here.
CAMERON: So what are we looking for?
ELLEN: Photographs, a diary, notes she wrote, anything that might tell us something.
They rummage around the room in the dark. The only light comes from outside, very little at that. Ellen opens a wardrobe and then some boxes sat at the bottom. They contain old school books and children's story books. Cameron is at a table where he looks at some music CDs.
CAMERON: She was uh...... spoiled.
ELLEN: Just a touch. You found anything?
CAMERON: Only that she likes the Beatles.
ELLEN: Doesn't everyone?
Ellen goes to the bed and stands looking at it. Then she looks out of the room and up to where she can see a cord dangling down from the ceiling.
ELLEN: An attic.
She goes out to the corridor and pulls the cord down.
ELLEN: You coming?
CAMERON: Get real. You're not going up there?!
ELLEN: Fine. Stay here. Keep a look out for Mr Scream.
CAMERON: That's not funny. That is so not funny. How can you say that? Are you listening to me?
ELLEN:Nope.
Ellen goes up the staircase and into the attic. It's pitch black up here, we can make out wooden beams and boxes but not much else. Ellen removes her lighter from her pocket and ignites it. A small circle of light glows around her. She bends down and looks at a box. Opening it she sees old birthday cards, covered in a slight dust.
The whole house seems to creak in the wind.
Ellen finds another box labelled Jill's stuff. She opens it revealing a photo album, some journals and a brown envelope. Ellen smiles and removes all of the stuff.
She starts back down the ladder. and stands in the corridor.
ELLEN: Cameron? Cameron, you little pisher, where are you?>
He doesn't answer. She looks around but can't see him. Then she does. At the other end of the corridor, away from the stairs, stood against the wall. She looks at him as he raises a single finger to his lips and points to the stairs.
Ellen looks where she sees a shadow down below, moving around. Ellen gasps and backs slowly away to the wall with Cameron holding the box.
They hear a thump as the person starts up the stairs. Cameron points to the bathroom door. Ellen opens it and then both slip in as the figure reaches the top of the stairs.
They close the door.
ELLEN: (whisper) Is it him?
CAMERON: (whisper) I don't know, I couldn't see......what are we gonna do?
Ellen shakes her head. She doesn't know. She bends down to the key hole and looks through. We see her POV. Someone from the waist down, dressed in black. The figure stops and regards the staircase up to the attic. Then, starts up it. The figure soon disappears from view. Ellen opens the door.
CAMERON: What are you doing?!
ELLEN: Sshhh, it's OK.
They both exit as they hear the figure clambering around above. Cameron stands at the top of the stairs. Ellen hands him the box. He takes it as Ellen slams the staircase up into the roof again. Then they both take off down the stairs as we hear footsteps run back to the opening.
Outside, Ellen and Cameron run for the van and climb in.
ELLEN: Jesus, was it him?
CAMERON: I don't know, let's just get out of here! Why'd you slam the door you moron?
Cameron backs the van out and then drives along a small mud track.
ELLEN: Wait, where are you going? This isn't the way we came in.
CAMERON: I know, I'll swing it around...
ELLEN: No don't go back, keep going, this has to come out someplace.
He keeps driving along, not sure of where he's going. Suddenly, a fallen tree trunk looms out of nowhere.
Cameron slams on the brakes and swerves out of the way. The van fishtails around, spewing up mud and water. The back end crashes into some fencing and the end juts out over a fast flowing mud river. Cameron restarts the van but the wheels spin in mid air.
ELLEN: Christ, what's wrong?!
CAMERON: Shit! The fucking wheels are out, I can't move the damned thing!
ELLEN: Well try!
CAMERON: I'm trying goddamit!
He jumps out of the van. Ellen looks down at the box of stuff.
ELLEN: Shit!
She puts it down and jumps out as well.
The wind literally tears her clothes off but she struggles to the back of the van where Cameron is trying to push the van up on the grass again. He is stood on the bank, the river about ten feet wide rushes by with muddy water and trees and bits of broken fencing.
ELLEN: Are you OK?
CAMERON: Do I look OK?
Ellen climbs down.
ELLEN: I'll give you a hand.
CAMERON: Don't bother, I can't move the damned thing.
Ellen stands by Cameron as he give son last push. He slips and falls into the water. Ellen wades over and helps him up.
ELLEN: First rule about rivers, someone always has to fall in
CAMERON: Yeah, it had to be me didn't it?
ELLEN:Is this the sort of good time you show a girl on a date?
Cameron wipes himself down, getting up.
CAMERON: Are we on a date?
He looks at her but she isn't looking at him. She staring into the woods on the other side of the river.
CAMERON: Ellen?
ELLEN: Cam.....
Cameron stands closer to her.
ELLEN: Cam......what is that?
