Highlander: The Raven: 'Thick as Thieves'

A former partner of Amanda's (in more ways than one) reappears in Paris to make a major theft. When Nick sets out to bring him to justice, Amanda must decide who to side with in an attempt to stop anyone dying.

Once again, this episode works better thanks to characters that aren't just present to chew scenery, snarl a bit and then get beheaded at the end by Amanda. Dexter is a 'nice' thief, stealing things but never letting anyone be hurt. However, there's a French detective after him as well, who holds Dex responsible for the death of his brother. Jan Triska is wonderful in this role, as you're never sure what he's going to do next, telling meandering stories about his past.

Dex is also an interesting character who is more than anything caught up in Amanda and Nick's respective crusades. If he was just left alone, he could do his robbery and leave Paris again, but it's not to be. There is also a fantastic flashback showing Amanda at her thieving best, and a wonderful scene at the start set in a casino, in which Amanda is determined to keep her winnings.

The final solution that Nick and Amanda come up with to help both the detective and the thief is simple but clever, with neither totally happy with the outcome, and Amanda realizing that she may never be able to be a thief again, or before long Nick is going to try to bring her to justice. Everyone eventually goes away happy, with no-one having done anything irrevocably wrong. An interesting character study.
