P-Files #PF.CA-01: Crisis Apparitions
Crisis Apparition appears to be some form of message perceived (e.g., telepathic cry for help or recognition), usually visually, by a person at some considerable distance to a person in difficulty or near death. Many people seeing apparitions often report 'knowing' that it means a relative or friend has died, even before they are acquainted of that fact in the normal way.
In many cases, a deliberate message being transmitted by the person dead in order to inform friends or relatives of his/her death, knowing that attempts through normal channels would not have reached them successfully.
The theory suggests that at times of crisis, a burst of 'a psychic something' or adrenaline in the physical body allows or forces some method of broadcasting a message. The broadcast is either fine-tuned to a specific target or is an open broadcast that can be picked up by anyone, but only if they are in the right frame of mind.
In the case of someone who knows they are dead or dying their out-of-body experience might be a last way of saying goodbye. It is also suggested that some recent dead persons were being confused and had no idea of their own true fate. Sometimes the form of apparition is transmitted that could only be known to the person in crisis or someone with them at the time.
Precisely who is generating the images? They are apparently two major theories. The first theory holds that they were due to telepathy on the part of the sighter. The reasoning was that psychic powers needed a living mind and ghosts were remnant energies without purpose. Another theory suggests that many apparitions seen were of people who had died violently and suddenly. The belief is that the apparition of the dead person played an active role in the encounter. It is clear that not one likely to reach a definite conclusion, not least because all of the possible mechanisms being considered are themselves not understood.
