Cancer Alert Dogs! (From the "Sightings" Web Site, 3/5/97 -
3/12/97)
Dermatologist Dr. Armand Cognetta had a hunch when he heard a
report about a search dog that had sniffed out a body at the
bottom of a lake. The doctor who treats many patients with skin
cancer wondered, if a dog can pick up a scent through water,
could they sniff out disease, specifically cancer inside the
human body?
Then, a strange coincidence. In a British Medical Journal, an
article about a dog credited with finding a malignant growth on
its owner's leg.
Dr. Cognetta brought the article and his hunches to Duane Pickel.
Duane had said he can train a dog to find anything, even Cancer.
A dog's sensitivity to smell is two hundred and twenty million
times better than ours. They can see ten times better than we
can. They can hear a thousand times better than we can. The
combination of those three is why we should use dogs.
