Venus, the Greek Aphrodite, was the goddess of love and beauty; consequently, of art and pleasure. She was born, according to the myth, on Chypre's coast, from the sea fertilized by Uranus's virility, cut by Saturn and fallen in the waters. Considered as Mars's mistress, whom she cheated with Vulcan, Venus represented, in fact, the feminine qualities opposed to Mars's masculine qualities.
