Ouranos means sky in Greek. Uranus, father of Saturn, is the most ancient king of the skies, at the beginning of times. Dethroned by his son, Cronos, he was castrated and his genitals falling into the sea gave birth to Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, the Latin Venus. His name itself indicates that he personified the celestial vault. This god, in Antiquity, was attached to no heavenly body. His name was given to a planet not by pagans, but by christians from the 19th century.
